Oh where game optimizations have gone... even RTX 4090 sucks on this with native resolution as 60 FPS is NOT something to expect from that card. I hope FSR 4 behaves a great fix for FSR
I would really like, if you could elaborate on the visuals a bit more, when changing settings. "It looks fine" and "i wouldn't mind playing it like this" doesn't really help. Like... what changes with FSR performance? Or on medium settings?
I'm playing this at 1440p epic with frame generation at native resolution with the 7900xtx and the 7600x no overclocking or undervolting for both. Yes, I know the CPU is not as strong but I'm planning to upgrade to the 9800x3D as this was my intention when I got the 7600x at the start of AM5. So far the game is very enjoyable with no stutters and huge frame drops, well aside from the input lag everything is working well. I'm getting 115+ fps at most scenario's and sometimes it goes as low as 80 fps when I get into some heavy NPC area like the town in the lesser zone. The game really needs some major optimization enhancement as I would really want to turn that frame generation off. I know some people would rather play with a choppy experience over playing with frame generation, but for me the annoyance of a choppy experience and the inconsistent mouse movement is as bad as the delay that comes from frame generation, so might as well have some delay with a smooth experience overall.
Enabling DLSS 3 FG also enables Nvidia Reflex as these 2 techs compliments each other. FSR 3.1 FG has some built in input latency mitigation, but Anti-Lag 2.0 just works better, but is missing in this game. So, until and unless Anti-Lag 2.0 gets implemented in more games, DLSS 3 FG will always have an advantage in terms of input latency.
Ryzen 9 7900X3D/RTX4080 user here reporting great performance at 1440p max settings with no scaling or framegen. 50-80FPS running around the wilderness averaging near 70. 50-65-ish FPS in the beginner town average maybe 55. With DLSS Framegen I am consistently over 100FPS most of the time and gameplay is pretty smooth and artifact-free. My brother is having a similar experience on his 5950X/3090Ti rig with FSR. Framegen works great to interpolate ~50-60FPS into 100+FPS. It does not work so great to interpolate 30FPS into 60FPS. Also from our testing FSR 3.1 Framegen is pretty dang solid but DLSS 3.5+ Framegen still produces a better result.
The problem isn't that Frame Gen isn't producing higher frame rates. The problem is the SIGNIFICANT amount of input lag from the button press to the action being seen on the screen is unacceptable. It's like having mouse acceleration and mouse smoothing on at the same time. It's terrible.
@@garypinholster1962 Thus why I say interpolating 50-60FPS(in my case 50-80FPS) into 100+ is far better than interpolating 30FPS to 60+. While you can reduce the latency added by Framegen somewhat you can never reduce the latency caused by running at low framerates. It will never work right for that. It can't make good performance out of bad performance. AMD have stated that FSR Framegen is aimed toward interpolating 60FPS into 120FPS. Nvidia have likewise stated that DLSS Framegen is aimed at interpolating 40FPS into 80FPS. Also, I would wager Nvidia's target is conservative marketing BS and really wants 50-60FPS to work well like FSR. Point being neither is really designed to do well at 30FPS and both require you to have decent performance to begin with. Particularly if you are well over 60FPS base framerate both will introduce negligible input lag while under ~50-60FPS the lag starts to creep in. Nvidia Reflex and variable refresh helps a little bit here as well. So guys running at 30FPS, Framegen isn't gonna help much. But guys running in the 40s and 50s like a lot of RX6000s and RTX3000s will do, a little resolution scaling and framegen is way better than nothing. Technologies like this work best when used conservatively.
I have a 7900XT and even with mixed quality settings (foliage tanks your fps and looks perfectly fine at low, I would recommend turning it all the way down) XESS at 66% res scale AND FSR3-FG I still get noticeable stutters/drops in come areas that aren't even the super heavy town early on. I still see as low as like 60-70 in the town with said upscaling and FG, neither my 5950x or 7900XT have ever struggled like this to run a game the closest I can think of off the top of my head would be Horizon Forbidden West which I get like 70-80fps avg at 1400p Ultra Native iirc. It doesn't even use a full CCD either, it could be using more CPU if it wanted. I have it set to cores 2-15 in Process Lasso so that the little bit of windows stuff on core 0 doesn't affect it, and even then it STILL can't saturate all 7c/14t, except for in shader compilation.
This was my plan to upgrade for when there's a sale on the 7900xtx. Right now I'm on a 2080ti at 1440p But with a mix of medium and epic settings + DLSS + FSR3 FG it actually runs just basically almost the 1440p Epic/FG section (actually seems a bit better and more stable subjectively) so I might not upgrade anyway since the few graphics settings at medium don't bother me much. This is also the first game I'm using FG in and I have to say, not a huge fan. It feels almost as if I've turned on mouse smoothing or mouse acceleration. I got used to it by now but at the beginning it was awful. I read it has something to do with base FPS before FG but idk. And weirdly enough, Nvidia reflex low latency made it even worse. I guess that might be because of the weird setup of Nvidia dlss + AMD FG + Nvidia reflex.
Dipped down to 30fps on an i5 13500 and 4070ti lol Its okay in non built up areas BUT DAMN ITS UNOPTIMISED AS FOOK! Edit! I fixed the issue by using TSR ultra quality which made my gpu use all it's power and is now pegged above 95% usage! So either dlss is bugged in this game or it's because I'm using studio drivers!
4k is a tall order. 1440p , tsr ultra quality, hair medium, rest between epic and high depending on gpu. FSR frame gen if you want it to feel smoother with anti lag on. That was my best experience with a 7900xt overclocked and 7800x3d. Usually i hate frame gen. This one made frame time 8.5ms. highely playable. Upscale fsr shimmer drives me crazy tsr with frame gen was best. GPU hitting 99% usage
It would be great to see more benchmarks of path tracing in games like Cyberpunk 2077 with your 4090, maybe in interiors and story areas with a spoiler warning. That game is just so insanely beautiful with path tracing. It truly is the Crysis of our time.
Don't use frame gen if your pc can handle this game with just fsr etc. Also you can download a mod from nexus, it fixes delay, bugs, load time and few more issues. Give it a time and this game will shine. This is probably one game after cyberpunk which I really liked in two years, maybe total war Pharaoh too
@@yokingboii ah welp, missed it. In that case it's better to wait for patches and fixes. I also know Xbox or ps have an input delay by itself, if you're using TV screen, adding lags from the game itself will definitely make it worse. Sadly
Great video! I'm curious about MSI Afterburner. Does it conflict with Adrenaline at all? Does it override Adrenaline settings? I'm asking because Adrenaline likes to boost my 7900xtx well above it's boost clock, even on default settings. I have set my max clock speed in Adrenaline to override this, but MSI Afterburner seem more straight forward. Thanks again for the video!
I do agree about the Frame Generation and Upscaling rant towards the end, developers have been using them as crutches for a while now. It's a very fun game, but man is it being held back by this massively.
Played it on 1080p Epic Graphics with a 7900 GRE. Going steady between 40 and 100 FPS without frame generation depending on where you are in the game. This game is demanding, to say the least

Sometimes i have bigger drops (to about 30fps) in zalisja village but saving game and then loading last save helps but i played like 12h and only 2 times i had this situation. The game is really pretty, but is very blurry and temporally unstable, you can disable TAA from the settings and although foliage looks extremely fizzy everything else is crisp and clean in movement
I play on OC Nitro+ 7900XT and in 4K with FSR quality+ FG i got 120 FPS on high/epic without RT. Native is like 55 FPS. FG feels ok on TV but horrible flickering on Monitor
When it was being discussed by our friend group about a year ago we thought that we could all properly play it, now i guess me with a gtx 1070 and an i7 7700 woupd have to take some serious compromises to even get a proper 60 fps
I had terrible reaction to performance trying to play this at 3440:1440p on my trusty 1080ti, 13600k but I spent some time tweaking for my gear and I settled with medium settings (epic textures), FSR on quality, I play with windowed mode 2560:1080 with black borders, no ingame framegen but instead I use lossless scaling at x4 and I got rid of input lag - I do have some minor glitches with lossless scaling at x4 but im at 100-144fps all the time. I can live with that.
Input lag is real. 3440 res high preset. Оn 6700xt only on 80% TSR + fg I've got "playable" fake 50-60 fps. Settings almost change nothing but gedrages graphics. That's why devs focus on frame gen and FSR TSR xess dlss thing

Can confirm, even the 9800x3d and a 4080s stutters like mad. It's unfortunate, the gameplay and story are great. But the performance and intermittent crashes take me out it.
There is one thing you said that maybe with 4090 the game is smoother. The fact is that it's even worse because you have more fps so stuttering between frames is even more visible because there ofc are more frames per second. Surprisingly, if your gpu is worse stuttering is less visible. So maybe this is why some people are saying that this game is running well 😂 For example I literally didn't notice stutters on my old PC with gtx1070 but I built new one like 3 months ago and now I see much more problems with new games. I even watched videos like this with frametime graph to be sure that it's not problem with my PC and in linear games I see travel stutters in the same time like on videos. As I said I didn't notice it on my old PC for example in Resident Evil 4 when travelling through locations.
I really don't understand. Oh where game optimizations have gone... even RTX 4090 sucks on this with native resolution as 60 FPS is NOT something to expect from that card.
I hope FSR 4 behaves a great fix for FSR

17:25 I swear, that ALWAYS happens when ever you say it, or even simply think it! It's like God is telling you "nah..."
Amazing Video ❤❤
I was about to comment on those white sparkles lol. You read my mind bro.
In the good old days, my at that time cool computer Stalker did not pull, but now the PC is also cool, and the same situation, well, classic

I've tried FSR FG + NVIDIA Reflex and the input lag was noticeable even with 100+ FPS (after enabling FG, of course)
Krizzp released the monster on Chernobyl! 54 celsius looks great although its winter time there.
Even turning FG on will not solve much because it increases input lag to an unplayable point.
Right now I'm on a 2080ti at 1440p
But with a mix of medium and epic settings + DLSS + FSR3 FG it actually runs just basically almost the 1440p Epic/FG section (actually seems a bit better and more stable subjectively) so I might not upgrade anyway since the few graphics settings at medium don't bother me much.
Dipped down to 30fps on an i5 13500 and 4070ti lol
Its okay in non built up areas BUT DAMN ITS UNOPTIMISED AS FOOK!
It truly is the Crysis of our time.
i tried stalker 2 on the series s :o it was terrible 30 fps, AND A TON OF DELAY so i don't reccomend it on the series s yet

Sadly

We must wait for Updates/Hotfixes. I play the Game at 3440 x 1440p all EPIC. I set max FPS in the Gamesettings to 60 and activate FG + FSR Native. So i get 120 Fps. Then i set Max FPS to 100 with RivaTuner so i get stable 100 FPS all the Time wit much lower Inputlag. Only way to have Fun in this Game at the Moment. I play with 5800X3D + RX7900XTX.
Honestly good luck. The old stalker was just as bad … its these devs.

Mm maybe check out nexus mods. Some people say modders already shared some performance tweaks. And im sure devs will come up with updates too
You should do 4070ti super test please and thanks for these good vids.
Those graphics are honestly kind of underwhelming considering how demanding the game is.

That's why devs focus on frame gen and FSR TSR xess dlss thing

The dlss or fsr or frame generation is a software doing a trick to improve the game fps..not hardware..right?
You could set display to 60hrz and then lock frames at 60fps and then turn on BFI.....That would be butter smooth.
Can confirm, even the 9800x3d and a 4080s stutters like mad. It's unfortunate, the gameplay and story are great. But the performance and intermittent crashes take me out it.
are you gonna do the 4080 super??
How do you manage to have such low temp on 7900xtx? Especially on 4k?
Major realeases on consoles used to be a guaranteed experience that it would work, now 2000 dollar machines with high-end 2 year old hardware are struggling to get the touted 60fps that pcgamers often raved about. At 1080p, a resolution that's been the standard for a decade.
WTH is wrong with them??? EPIC for not optimizing their engine GSC for not making compromises or choosing a better system and anyone not complaining for enabling this ****
Why are major companies relying on ME to have the best, most up-to-date hardware known to man so I can run the 60 Dollar game I'm already paying them for.
