I know this is an old video but it's absolutely wonderful to get a cleaning video on this venerable old pistol especially getting a good look at how you can take it down to the frame as I have one that I've ordered and plan to put in a threaded barrel into mine so it is good to see something like this can be maintained.

1911’s may not be super practical for most people. They’re heavy, low round capacity, lots of opportunity for debris if dropped. I tell you what though. These are an excellent piece of craftsmanship, beauty and an icon of a time when you were raised to appreciate what you had. I love 1911’s. Almost as much as my Beretta 92 😜
+MrThidj901 I'm still here, I just ran out of guns to clean. I have limited space so I can't fit anything larger than pistols in the frame. I've been changing my cleaning process over the years, so I will be re-doing many of the videos, and I hope to get a few new pistols sometime soon.

As previously mentioned, the residue and traces of metals left behind in the barrel can assist in fouling the barrel later on if left unchecked, or making the gun malfunction in general. If an egregious misuse of the weapon occurs and the weapon is not cleaned for a long period of time, the problem can get so progressively bad that the gun may either fail to fire (if there is a lot of residue or fouling near the chamber and firing pin), or the barrel can even sometimes explode (if there is a massive clump in the barrel due to bad gun maintenance and failure to clear the barrel before firing).
That Ballistol stuff is expensive i use Break cleaner About $3.00 Bucks in any Auto store works even better than the gun scrubbs selling for 5- 10 Bucks etc.
Saving a little money using brake cleaner is great until you melt something. Ballistol is like $17 for a few years supply for me. Makes sense because it is safe for metal, wood and leather. That is like a 4000+ vintage colt he is working on too over 100 years old. Might not hurt to take it a little easy on the old girl.
I enjoyed the parts of the video where the cleaning action was actually in-frame, and I wasn't staring at a bunch of parts with a gun-cleaning background sound track. No biggie - just keep it in mind for next time.

Depends on what people want to pay for it. It's in really good shape for its age, so in the $3000 range most likely. Pistols of rougher quality in the same age range go for $2000-2700 in auction.
My grandpa got it in WWII, so I can't help you there. You can check gun auction houses that focus on classics, though. Check out ForgottenWeapons' channel, he posts lots of auction guns.
Just visit loca gun stores and stores anytime you go out of town. I went out of town with the family and didn’t want to go in the mall so after I dropped them off I looked up gun stores in the are and visited all of them. I found a 1911 like this one used during wwii. $2700. They are out there, you just gotta look. You’ll eventually find one. Turner’s online has a few on consignment between $2700 and $3000.

Wonderful ASMR. I've always found metallic and scrubbing sounds great for ASMR videos. So, perfect combo. I'm also a huge fan of the "no talking".

What does it do? It looks like it is just some soot that does not interfere with mechanical parts
If its thick dirt it can get into the mechanism and it will not function properly

Aside from mechanical issues that dirt is firing residue which if exposed for long enough can adversely affect the users health

99% isopropyl alcohol to clean followed by ballistol CLP to prevent rust and also lubricate a bit.
