Pivetta is in his 30's with a career ERA closer to 5 than to 4 and a half, and 15 games UNDER .500 for his career. This is the kind of move that causes fans to lose interest rather than get excited.
The Reds are always lagging behind the latest trends. The harsh reality is that the expanded playoffs have left many teams just one or two moves away from making it. Most clubs couldn't care less about talent in the low minors that's still two or three years out. Teams want major league-ready players. It's tougher than ever for teams receiving revenue sharing to improve. The expanded playoffs were meant to help smaller teams, but in truth, they're hurting them. With so many small teams believing they're close, none want to give up much, and they couldn't care less about a promising player in A or AA. Moreover, the players a club is willing to trade are likely not going to help, because if they could, they wouldn't be available. The Reds did well to trade India for a starter who made all his starts last year. However, they missed an opportunity by not offering $80 million to Hernandez. When you have bad credit, you pay a higher rate. We gave Moose four years and $60 million, and he wasn't nearly the hitter Hernandez is. The only way to add talent is to pay for a free agent, but so far, we aren't willing. I foresee a similar year next year. Any minor moves will have blowhards claiming we're the next big thing and waxing poetic about all the young guys arriving at once. It could happen, but it has to, because if it doesn't, we're looking at an 83-79 team at best. More realistically, 75-87.
@@aarongilbert4396 offense. Or lack thereof. I was really only giving the credit for the trade in the context of what I was saying about how hard it is to get ANY trades done. In a time not long ago, the India trade would be a ho hum nothing trade. In today's climate, it's as good as it gets for a team like the Reds.
@ exactly offense. we now need to replace 60 RBIs and India also crossed the plate 84 times as well. McLain could do it. He could also take his lumps in 2025. The offensive holes are bigger now.
Knowing it may vary we'll be a trade to get a outfielder. Boston is looking for pitching help. Perhaps Andrew Abbott, or Nick Lodolo in on RF Wilyer Abreu ? Last year, Gold glove. 15 homers. Money wise right up the Red's alley.
Very doubtful they would want to trade a young, controllable outfielder. I think they were in on Teoscar. So I doubt they are dealing from that position.
@@wavra81 Hard to say. But I believe I remember seeing he's name rumored in on the Garrett Crochet deal. Boston has a depth of ready now players. You can expect anything at this point.
@@JacobBailey... I'm 50/50 on Lodolo. He has moments where he looks like the next superstar Cy Young candidate, followed up days later by going on the 60 day DL and you're waiting 2 months to see him pitch again. At this point the injuries are a cause for concern. If I'm Reds management I'm definitely open to trading him because there are others like you (and me, to a lesser extent) that see his talent and upside. That said, I'd have him on a short leash because the time he misses being injured is nearly as much, if not more, than the time he is actually healthy.
I believe at this point the Reds will not get another outfielder. Krall is giving the keys to Francona who in my opinion Krall believes Tito can improve the players the team now have. That being said last year was so frustrating for so many reasons. One reason being every time I saw the Reds were facing a good pitcher it became so predictable the Reds were going to lose. The Reds need an offensive player who can not only hit the high ERA hurlers, but the good ones, too. Otherwise it will be another rinse and repeat cycle losing season.
I am not now nor ever have been a pitcher. How can a pitcher go from high school all the way to the big leagues and not have problems with blisters until your second full year in the majors. Callouses should have been built up unless someone has changed his delivery
Could this free up Abbott for the stated major leaguer for major leaguer deal that t3ams ar3 asking for? Perhaps they've found a suitor that has a "press conference outfielder" that desires a package that includes Abbott.
Nick Lodolo would be perfect for the white Sox. He couldn’t there and figure things out and then the Sox could trade him in a year or two and get something huge. Tough trade to make.
Lodolo seems to be the Senzel of the pitching staff. Abbott is probably the one to keep as far as trades go. Lodolo hit the IL 4X last year! Need dependable starters! Trade Candelario and Lodolo, maybe to bring Suarez back to play 3rd? Abbott was a reliever in college wasn't he? Maybe add him to the bullpen to take Cruz's place? Keep Lowder in the rotation? Still need a rh'd hitting of'r though.
It's an amazing thing to know what ya know even if that guy isn't really good or a fit for GABP 😂😂😂 meaning you DON'T KNOW actually what you'll get from Pivetta at GABP either so what do you actually know ?? 😂😂😂😂 Nick can go 30 starts with the possibility of a 6.00 era or the norm career 4.43 or whatever the heck his is 😂😂 So if Nick gives us 32 starts and gives up 55 HRs what did you actually KNOW to begin with ? What if DJ makes him get more groundballs or doesn't?? See, we KNOW nothing about what we'd get from Pivetta either
Friedl was hurt most of the start of last season. So we’re not running an outfield back from last year. Steer was the hottest player in mlb the first month of baseball. Fairchild is top 5% at fielding and mashes lefties. Friedl has gone off on home run tears. His value is at GABP. WE HAVE A SOLID OUTFIELD! We’re not running will benson. If anything the infield with India gone is way more unproven. Hopefully they can become better defenders now. But until we can learn how to run the bases we can’t use our speed with sloppy base running. So essentially the reds speed is on hold until they learn how to run bases. This team has to be able to defend and you get that with the current outfield and infield. Give our take a couple guys that could show improvement. But there’s nobody that is going to be worth getting in the outfield besides a Lodolo Roberts trade. An injury risk high upside for an injury risk high upside. When you have a great defense the pitcher can stay on cue and pitch with pace and have confidence in his defense. It’s keeps the defense engaged when the pitcher is on and it helps the pitcher when the defense is on. They work together. So our defense is the strength of our pitching. This OF stuff is just a black hole. The Reds are learning that there’s a lot more than just getting players since they can’t have all superstars and even with the Mets that didn’t work. You have to improve defense, base running.
@georgemarischen8717 Right, but if you were another team, which one would you ask for? Lodolo doesn't have near as much trade value as Abbott because of the injury history and he has less years of control.

The Reds have guys penciled in at EVERY position. Starting Pitching is set. The bullpen may have a couple jobs open but is practically set. Fans can say whatever they want, Podcasters too, but what you already see is what you are perhaps getting with a GM and front office who will be so optimistic with BS it will sound like a Used Car Salesman selling lemons.
@Joseph-namvet Nick Lodolo has one the best left-handed breaking balls in the sport. In today's game 5 or 6 innings is a good start and signing Pivetta who would probably be very similar but with a much lower ceiling. Lodolo has top of the rotation potential if he's healthy. Pivetta is a 3-4 starter
Signing Pivetta would allow them to trade Lodolo or Abbott for an outfielder. I'm not sold on Abbott. His FIP is around 5.00 over the last two seasons and his ground ball rate is lower than 30%. He also fills in the hole Martinez leaves after 2025.
Nick Pivetta isnt a Nick Martinez. Martinez is a team first guy who wants to help the team win and do what it takes. Look into Pivetta. He whined like a baby and acted entitled when it was floated that the Red Sox should move him to the bullpen when he was sucking as a Starter. He's a selfish, hot head player if you ask me.
I don't think Reds are making anymore moves before 2025 trade deadline. It just seems like window shopping at best for the remainder of off-season. Can't have enough pitching, of course. As far as Lodollo blisters should become calluses at some point. If our medical staff can’t help a kid with a blister, they need to sack them all.
