A couple years ago we found the El Chico Gooseneck trailer that was manufactured by International Travel Trailer Inc. Since then many people have asked us what we did with it. We were asked about the hitch and if we had any interior videos or photos. We sold our trailer to Oklahoma Bugs shortly after we bought it but about 2 years ago another trailer surfaced in Colorado fully restored with a matching VW Bug tow vehicle. This past weekend we traveled to Colorado to see this trailer in person and get you guys some more video of this restored Gooseneck Trailer.
    Enjoy. JC.

Unfortunately as the generations get younger taking care of things becomes less and holding onto things becomes shorter.
The younger generations do not seem to value durability and life span more than having the latest and greatest.
Hence in my opinion our drastically accelerated environmental issues.

      A couple of thoughts:
The frontal aerodynamics look like they are better with that trailer compared to regular ones - it looks like it would _push down_ the car and thus give better grip.
But if it's windy from the side, does it pull on the car in an unfavorable way?

This was a very good video the gentleman did a great job putting it together with know directions. The trailer restoration was beautiful i helped my dad do a 35ft. The VW bug was what International Travel Inc used in the commercial in 1974 to promote this travel trailer. It has become known as a WV accessory which it can be but some other small cars could be used as well. The bug would probably be the best choice which is probably why they chose it for the commercial.
It was a good idea as it looks like getting in and out of places would be much easier than when a trailer is hitched to the back.
The two things do look great together.

My brother would only drive VW products his entire life and was very interested in this trailer designed as he loved to camp. When my brother retired in the mid 1980's, the guy still had the trailer and was stationed in Colorado at Peterson AFB, his last duty assignment before he was to retire himself. He had obtained a copy of the original plans and gave one to my brother. I would have to check with my sister in law to see if she knows where they are, as my brother passed about 4 years ago.

What would be the issue? It has safety
chains, lights, appears to have electric brakes, and the tow vehicle hitch is more that sufficiently strong along with the bodywork mounting. The power margin is much narrower than most north America drivers are used to but I've seen Peugeots pulling horse trailers in Bavaria without issue.

Imagine a steep down hill road with a switchback, the trailer could overpower the VW,thereby tipping it over sideways. I think that would be a concern. Cheers

Where the bolts come through the roof, you could make up a grab handle to attach via those bolts and tidy them up a bit.

love the inside wood work.so beautiful
rich wood tones.i love it.can see the issues with the front being weak like he said at the start of the vid and maybe they didnt want to address the financial need to fix it maybe the company had other behind the scene issues that prevented them from fixing and continuong to promote and push the product.i think this idea could have taken off maybe still could cuz of the ease alone of being able to move and park the trailor instead of having to only back it in alone makes it a selling point as that is a usual isuue with people.i can say myself im not the best prob.the worst at backing in a trailor and i would love anything that would make that easier.dunno but 1 thing for sure i love it

A lot of people are unaware that the Hunter Compact Trailer was also made to be hauled by a VW bug. I have a 1972 Hunter Compact that my uncle bought when he bought his 72 Super Beetle. I had the beetle until it was wrecked in 1990. I now pull it with a restored 93 Ford Festiva. Total weight is 900# & tongue weight is 80#. The Hunter's were actually sold in the dealerships / with the VW's. Some dealers carried them, other's just offered to order them. Dixon VW in Crest Hill , Ill was a large dealership so he had them on display. There is a lot of Hunters still on the road & are still sought after. I've been offered $ 10,000 for mine, & the sticker price was only $3100..... Just putting it out there...

Oh man. That is the coolest!
My mom had a yellow Beetle back in the day, then I got a new one and drove it for 9 years. Now I have a bigass fifth wheel camper and seeing this makes me wish I could wave magic wand and make the two worlds collide. I don't live far from Pryor Oklahoma and I'm surprised there isn't one of these out there. Seems to be some VW enthusiasts out there.

I had one of these trailers back in the early 80's, but it was made full size for a four door car, I had a chevy impala that I towed the trailer with while I lived in Mesquite Texas, I visited the guy who bought it from me and he still had it and his boy was fixing it up for him and his wife to travel and camp in,

You would have to disconnect the plug and safety chain to do all the maneuvering as shown on the first video. I can see how this would be a fun thing to use. We started with an 18 foot 5th wheel pulled with a 2.8 v6 S15 Gmc and now have a 40ft and a 3500 1 ton. Thanks for sharing.

The bolts are a 100% half assed solution. Drilling wouldn't be necessary if some proper thought had put into the mounting. Bugs don't need more holes.

Beautiful, great job guys! I bought a factory redo Diesel Beetle, 2015 model but sold in June 2017. VW dropped the “bubble” and it’s something like a foot shorter than the original beetles. Making a similar trailer work on my Beetle would require a shorter RV.
