For my wife, I'm so Blessed, she finds mowing with her Hustler ZT mower is her relaxation. I spent way too many years mowing lawns, I dislike/despise it still! I have an all natural yard in Alaska, it grows 6' tall native Fireweed, a beautiful wildflower. Just a little string trimming.
Glad to see that you got the Scag back JD! Just remember that you need to keep the blades sharp, I would suggest doing it once every couple of months with the size of your property. Having used a Scag commercially for about 12 years until I retired recently I know the quality of Scags and know that it will last you a long time!
Happy that your mower is back home! I agree, mowing videos are quite relaxing. I LOVE mowing my yard. It gives me a great sense of pride when its all manicured.
Good to have it back, I can understand that! I had a boss once who had had training in human behavior and such and he said "when someone says something more than a time or two, it's because they're trying to convince themselves that it's the truth." Interesting. Hope it serves you well now that they got the kinks worked out and gave it a stern talking to at the dealership.
We use a Scag tiger cat at work for a local metro parks. We have to put the belts back on every week or so, completely frustrating when your trying to make time , even the new belts jump off.
I always had good service from Ewald when I lived in Burnet County, from back when they were Lanford as well as after Ewald bought them. When you go tractor shopping I would also highly recommend going to them for a Kubota tractor. They are absolute workhorses and are super rugged and reliable. I had mine for ten years and was never disappointed with it.
Great music selection. That was relaxing. If I had one of those, one pass forward for about 30’ and back and my front yard would be done. Three passes and my back yard would be finished. Land is too expensive in S CA. I also never stop mowing, the grass grows all year, if you water it.
Great to see the mower back. Now that's great service you got. I've got a JD in the scope for 3 weeks now getting valves set and fixing an oil leak. They keep telling me anyday now.. when I tell my wife I'm going to take a victory lap, she'll know I'm not coming if for several hours.....
Alright! Nice to see you got it back and it's working the way it should. I just had a business idea, you may wanna get in on. Will never happen for me, my wife loves the new fifth wheel too much, but sell the current fifth wheel get a toy hauler and travel around with the Scag in the garage, offering mowing service in campgrounds in exchange for a stay of some length. I would 100% do that, but I enjoy our new Alliance 5th wheel too much as well. Anyway, stay safe and enjoy the ride!
@@BTBRVReviews Our eXmark dealer said the same - his exact words were "people don't know that they should never engage lower than full throttle and then they wonder why they have problems...designed to be engaged at full and also the engine started and killed at full throttle." Take it or leave it but that's what he said.
I was also told to engage PTO at full throttle if not your belt will jump off . And once it pops off it can ruin your belt and they want be responsible for it
Watching mowing is nothing! When the addiction grows ya move on to watching Forestry Mulchers to get your fix lol When they start chewing threw trees you'll be hooked!
What are you calling gophers? The turtle that burrows into the ground like we have in Florida or the fur covered thing like that lives up in Michigan? Glad you’re happy with your mower and the store you purchased it from. It is something when you can be happy after the purchase of a big ticket item.
I replace them once a year no matter what. And they need to be kept razor sharp and balanced for the best cut and least amount of wear and tear on your spindles and belts.
Two things: • take easy while you break it in. Give it 15 hours or so before cut 2’ to 3’ tall grass at 4”. • $400 for every other week is pretty dam good for the size of your acreage, what 8+? When mines down it’s $125 per mow for 1 & 3/4 acres. Also when are you putting the air compressor, water tank, lights, & all the other GADGETS on it. 😳🤩🤣😂
You can pay to have someone do it for you, and I'm pretty sure $400 isn't too much of a stretch for you, but there is nothing like the satisfaction of doing the job yourself. Glad you're back in the saddle again.
Wow $800/mo to mow that lawn isn’t cheap. It’s a car payment on a modern truck. Makes sense to invest in a good ZT which will easily recoup that cost and you’ll save mowing time with the Cheetah. Scag is at or near the top in engineering and build quality. Good luck 👍
Very nice. I must say I always feel like your Wilson from Tim the tool man Tayolr because we never see your face. Not a criticism at all just what it feels like sometimes.

Very cool machine. Glad the dealership took care of you. Many years of happy mowing my friend.

Glad your back in business with the scag! Your going to need it when spring arrives! Lol!

I'd suggest a small tractor and batwing mower for that size of yard. Tractor has a hundred other uses and the batwing would save you a ton of time.
Duck, gophers, duck! He’s back!
Right on jd glad you got it back

Glad to see the Hoyt-Clagwell made it back ;-)
Don't forget cleaning the underside of the deck, even between sharpenings.

Lower the front baffle on the deck and it will reduce the grass blowing up on the deck.

I am glad that things worked out for you JD! It is true when you find a good a good dealer you stick with them.
My husband used do work at one of the places that makes them!

I don't about a Skaggs, but on my Bad Boy, my dealer told me to engage the blade at full RPM. Just the opposite engaging the PTO on tractor.
I've not heard of any manufacturer that suggests engaging PTO at full throttle. That's quite a lot of torque transfer

@@mark12.31 so I just did some digging. Bad Boy and Exmark both do suggest full throttle PTO engagement. Scag recommends 3/4 Throttle PTO engagement

Sharpen the blades often and keep them balanced.
If you have a sandy loam soil, you'll need to replace your blades once a year, not sharpen.

JD do you have an update on the gopher trap?
I will :)

I was about to ask you that!
Nice Scag!
I didn't realize your grass went dormant over the traditional winter months being as far south as you are.
Yep, right around this time until May

I think he said almost 10 acres Ric Bailey!
Awesome mate glad it got fixed up for you. I plan to get a scag here in Australia when I can. Also hows the new lights going at night ?

Yeah, I did have a spindle crap out on me, just like you at low hours, but that was because I took the thing mud bogging.
Kawasaki 38 HP Scag Cheetah.
I used to weld the decks for SCAGs. 1000's of them I could do it with my eyes closed. Looks like they haven't changed much in 10 years.
My husband used to weld for Metal Craft of Mayville in West Bend, WI, where they make SCAG'S. (Mark Lucka, is his name.)
You should get the baffle kit to keep the from blowing all over you
Gopher trap update
Speaking of gophers, have you caught anymore with the new traps?
I can see you this winter, in the garage just going in circles so you can use your mower. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How’s the gopher count going?
Lol yeah! Grass isn't growing that tall right now. However, it's great for towing the garbage bins down to the end of the driveway!
6 gophers... None since the last though
What kind of mowers did the lawn service use?
Lol. 2 Scags
Did you doubled your 1.9 houres on it so it keeps steady??

But what about your gopher sticks?
Did they say what happened?
They replaced pretty much everything on the deck.
