I make some and I buy some. I'll always prefer homemade but honestly the frozen ones from the store aren't bad. It just depends on how much cooking / baking I'm doing and how much time I have. Thanks for all the great videos ya'll!

The pie beads go into the pie crust when you pre-bake it before adding the pie filling, to keep the pie crust from bubbling up. I guess they are usually metal, but you can use many things for “pie beads”. Rice, beans, etc. will work.

No. That's a mistake a lot of people make, and they can never get, "grandmother's," recipes right. The reason grandmother style recipes taste so good is because of the old method style of cooking and baking. Not using food processors and graters and all that stuff. Grandma used her hands, she took her time, and she didn't over mix.

I grew up in the Piedmont of NC and our church ladies made homemade chicken pies (just chicken and broth from a roux). They would have an assembly line from boiling the chicken to making the piecrusts. My mom was the crimper of the dough as you demonstrated. I have carried the tradition on with my family, but fail to make a good piecrust so use the Pillsbury crusts instead. Your video gave me hope to try again. Think overworking the dough is crucial......

Paula I had purchased the measuring cups and spoons off your website about a year ago and I am in love with them, my question for today is where does one get a cutting board like that? Thank you Donna

I replied to another person here, telling her that I googled "cutting board with pie measurements", and quite a few came up with various pricing. Seemed to be quite a few to choose from.🤔

We recently learned to take our very cold butter, and grate it on a cheese grater, as we put it into flour mixture. It is easy and still has the very cold butter incorporate well. Love your cooking!

My friend puts a tsp of vinegar in her pie crust. It's the flakiest I've ever had. Delicious.

My MaMa had such beautiful ways of crimping her pie, I need to practice more. Typically I do a combination of crimping and forking. I find the forking helps hold the lip. Pie is definitely my favorite dessert. But don’t like store bakery crust.

You can also use dried beans instead of the pie beads.... I don't know anyone who has pie beads LOL....I used to watch my grandmother make pies and all she did was just prick the bottom like you did.....and her crust were perfect too.....beautiful pie crust Paula....but I agree people need to remove rings & clanging jelwery especially when showing online.... I remove all jewelry before cooking.....
