  • Jeff 'Hammertone' Hamilton explains how you can sound like a million bucks on the drums. He offers a remedy to having nerves that make you choke on the instrument. And he explains why having them is a selfish act on itself. This talk might free you from a lot of hassle on your own playing. Or even better: what you can do to improve it.
Worth watching because of the funny anecdote that includes Jazz legends Philly Joe Jones and Bobby Durham!

Not even 4 Minutes and I at least learned 2 very important things, that realy bring me forward. 1. You are there for a reason. 2. To be nervous is a selfish way to be on the bandstand.

From the rock world, guitarist Martin Barre had the same issue with Jethro Tull. Tony Iommi won the gig, in part because Barre’s nerves got the best of him at the big open audition. But Iommi was not the right guitarist for Tull, and that became evident soon enough. Meanwhile, Barre knew in his heart that it was his gig. So in a more private audition, that became evident. And it was his gig for decades.

This is the 2nd video I've watched of Jeff Hamilton and this might have been the best drumming advice I've heard till this day. I'm currently on tour dealing with being too uptight on drums. However, not realizing I was being selfish focusing one how I'm sounding. Help the other band members sound great and be confident you're on the gig. Thank you!
