Thanks so much for this series with Jeff Hamilton. I'm 62 yrs old and never stop learning. I could listen and learn from him all day long. Thanks again
+Tom Townsend Glad you like them! Hopefully we can get Jeff back soon; in the meantime, check out Michael Carvin's drumming videos here: ua-cam.com/video/gFfQ3d5LBr4/v-deo.html
Immensely inspiring! I've been fortunate to work with Jeff, and see him at several clinics and performances. He's probably the most knowledgeable person about big band drumming on the planet.
Great series and Jeff is one of the very best drummers ever. I was lucky enough to see him perform with Woody Herman in the 70´s and with LA4 in my little hometown, Linköping, Sweden! Since i play drums myself, or at least try to, Jeff has been a major influence for me in trying to play drums and especially with the brushes.
Love what Jeff is saying about having the word lucky! H also mentions a few unsung heroes very worthy of note,Matt Wilson and sonny igoe. Great players. I met and heard Matt Wilson a few years back at BIRDLAND and he is a great player!
An insightful and meaningful interview, capturing fascinating technical history, along with touching sentiments. I guess, come to think about it, that summs up JH and it shines though every beat.
My school was lucky enough to have the count basie band come to OUR dinky little highschool in nowhere new york, and that started it for a lot of people.
I want to have a practice pad nearby on my last day! (well, technically, now I'm loving the universal practice tips but, hey! who knows what we'll have at that time :)
What a great, open guy, who is so willing to share his knowledge and experiences; seems like a true gentleman, and music ambassador...

Indeed, Jeff's become one of those masters himself. Love this informal, honest type of interview.
Jeff is my favorite living drummer. His videos have helped me learn so much in learning and playing.
A wonderful series, thanks. Jeff seems so genuine and is such a good educator. More of these please!

Thanks, I will!

Awesome video. The power of an upbeat and very positive attitude is everything. Sprinkle in some humility and love if history and it’s over the top.
Thank you for posting all these videos. Jeff is a tremendous drummer, and a great teacher. Great stuff for any musician.

Superb series by Jeff Hamilton and Sammy Miller.
Jeff is an articulate, intelligent teacher. My favorite drummer!
Play on Jeff!
BIG thanks to Jeff, there, for sharing a few choice nuggets of wisdom any instrumentalist could take to the bank.
Beautiful!
'@5.52 right through the wall' . . . right on! Thank you Jeff.

thank you for uploading all these great videos! :)
What a great conversation...
Excellent!
good talk.
Right around 3:05 Jeff refers to a drummer by the name of Jon Bonolan - I'm not sure if that's right. Does anyone have any more info on this guy?
*John Von Ohlen
Jeff Hamilton is great player and a classy guy. He's also damn handsome 😉
Thank you!!

I can't figure out the name of the one of the first teachers of Jeff. John Vanoullah? Or what?
Thanks!
John Von Ohlen. "The Baron" as Stan Kenton dubbed him. A genius and zen drummer.
Please change the title and add John Von Ohlen as a mentor as well.
Jeff Hamilton
A great advertisement for small kits.
wait, does he play, or What? :)
These older guys wearing turtle necks and jackets while drumming, must be insane. :) TOO. HOT. Gah!
Practice your rudiments until they flow from one to another and then just play singles doubles and flams!
Too much BLA BLA . No drum playing ?
