B-18's Incident Report: "On 10/28/2024 while on regular patrol I heard via the radio that Cleburne County Sheriff's Office was attempting to make a traffic stop on a vehicle that was reported stolen near Pleasant Springs Road West. The vehicle that was reported stolen was a red Ford F-450 pulling a flatbed trailer with a skid steer on the trailer. The vehicle failed to stop and the deputies in pursuit of the vehicle requested the assistance of the Arkansas State Police. While en route to the pursuit deputies stated that the truck attempted to drive head-on with law enforcement vehicles. Deputies stated that the vehicle was traveling at high rates of speed. They also stated that the suspect would drive into oncoming lanes of traffic forcing other vehicles off the road almost causing several head-on collisions. I caught up to the pursuit near State Highway 5 at Dennison Rd. Once I reached the pursuit, I got in front of the suspect vehicle to slow it down in an attempt to box the suspect vehicle in. The suspect vehicle made an abrupt left turn onto Dennison Road which is a gravel road. Once the vehicle made the left turn onto Dennison Road, I took over as primary in the pursuit. I followed the vehicle for approximately 4 miles on the gravel roads in an attempt to stop the fleeing vehicle, however, due to the suspect's erratic driving and dusty roads, I was unable to catch up to the suspect vehicle at this time. Once I found an opening where I could see around the suspect vehicle, I attempted to get up next to it so I could try to force it off the side of the road into the ditch to end the pursuit. As I maneuvered up to the driver's side, I noticed a deep culvert to my left, so I slowed down and attempted to stay on the road. At this point, the suspect vehicle, steered towards me causing the driver side of his trailer to collide with the passenger side of my vehicle. The driver of the suspect vehicle continued steering to the left, ultimately forcing me off the road and into the culvert. Once I left the roadway and entered into the roadside ditch my patrol vehicle flipped over and landed on its roof. The approximate address of the culvert where my unit rolled over was in the 200 block of Foster Rd. My unit was fully disabled causing approximately $10,000 in damages. After my patrol unit rolled into the ditch, responding law enforcement units stopped to check on my well-being. However, due to the amount of dirt and dust, the responding units behind the vehicles stopping to check on me could not see the units parked on the road and rear-ended them. A White County Sheriff's Deputy unit, 2 Cleburne County Deputy units, and 1 Arkansas Department of Agriculture unit were involved in the accident sustaining heavy and disabling damage. The suspect vehicle continued for approximately 200 yards before the driver drove into a field and fled on foot. The Arkansas State Police dispatched a helicopter to scan the area as well as the Calico Rock K-9 units. After an extensive search lasting approximately 3 hours, the suspect was located and confirmed to be Robert Eddy. Eddy was placed into custody and transported to the White County Detention Center for holding. Cleburne County Sheriffs Office filed the following charges: 5-54-125 Felony Fleeing 5-13-204 Aggravated Assault 27-50-308 Reckless Driving 27-51-601 Ran Stop Sign 27-51-301 Drove left of Center 27-51-503 Failure to Yield. White County Sheriffs Office filed the following charges: 5-13-211 Aggravated assault on a Law Enforcement Officer 5-74-105 Unauthorized use of property 5-38-203 Criminal mischief 1st degree $5,000 - $25,000 5-38-204 Criminal mischief 2nd degree $5,000 X4 5-54-125 Felony fleeing vehicle or conveyance 5-36-103 Theft of property X3"
Hopefully no one was injured during the chase or the crashes. I applaud all the officers involved for their dedication not only to the public but to each other, irregardless of which department they currently serve in. This episode just proves this point. Thank you to all departments and their officers for a job well done.
I wonder if any law enforcement agency has tried looking into the viability of equipping a selection of police cars that operate in areas with a lot of dirt roads, with thermal imaging cameras as an aid in pursuits where the dust generated by a fleeing vehicle creates a hazard. Thermal imaging cameras are capable of “seeing” through dust and smoke. (To an extent.)
@@BoHolbo Don't know about modern times, but I remember a North Little Rock PD officer showing me his FLIR thermal camera that was installed to the top of his spotlight. He would point the spotlight and the camera would move accordingly. Could be zoomed in, etc. Not all NLRPD had those at the time; it was a trial run. That was in 2016.
It's like the time this summer where they were pursuing a huge stolen dump truck and an asp unit thought it was a good idea to have his charger be a road block. Good thing he wasn't in the car because the dump truck annihilated the car and kept going

@johnniejohnson8026, yes! I love these rural areas, the LAND! I know the differences in both living in the "sticks" and on the outskirts of the city where you're just "5 mins from downtown".... There are obvious differences in convenience etc., but I prefer open land, vegetation without the noise and buildings everywhere. For me, blocks of concrete and asphalt, can never compare to fields of lush green grass and trees, a nice lake etc.

@gp1683, it seems like it.... It's such a shame, not even 40 yrs old and wasted most of his life committing crimes. Most of us have barely had a parking or speeding citation in 50, 60, 70+ yrs and then there are people like this guy.
