  • In this video I'll guide you through various techniques to add texture to your artwork in Adobe Fresco. I'll show you step by step how to achieve that perfect distressed, punk rock, or vintage vibe, giving your creations a unique and authentic feel.
    We'll start by exploring the easiest method - importing a paper texture image and playing with layer settings to control its impact on your artwork. I'll share some tips on where to find or create your own textures, ensuring you have complete control over the creative process.
    Moving on, I'll introduce you to non-destructive methods ways to distress your illustrations. By changing the layer blend mode to "screen," we'll create transparency in the black areas, letting the underlying artwork shine through. Get ready to experiment with an array of textured brushes for endless creative possibilities.
    To enhance that weathered look, we'll delve into additional techniques. I'll demonstrate how to use clipping masks for targeted adjustments, such as desaturating imported textures to eliminate unwanted color tones. We'll add subtle textures using brushes, adjust opacity, and introduce color overspray for an authentic vintage charm.
    As we progress, I'll share advanced techniques like shifting layers to simulate print misalignment, and using gritty brushes as erasers to break up clean edges. The goal is to encourage playful experimentation within your artwork, showcasing how different brushes and adjustments can enhance the overall aesthetic.
    Whether you're a beginner or aiming to elevate your Adobe Fresco skills, join me in this tutorial to infuse your artwork with character and charm.

    As always: very nice content, Chris. Got your Vector-packs and after hesitating to get into Fresco for quite a while, I jumped and with your tapered gritty brushes I finally found some excellent tools to start and build upon. Thanks a lot, man.

    Great Content.. as always ! Keep the good work, it’s useful for novice like me !
    Just one question, after using Supreme Spatter & texture on a layer, black color, when I click on « Screen » nothing happens except that the black disappear completely and I come back to original drawing. Without making the nice white texture. Do you know why ?

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  5 місяців тому

      I think for the screen to work you’ll need a white background on the texture layer. So just make a new layer fill it with white and then merge your texture down onto it. Then when you select screen, the art will come through the black and not the white.

    • @cysdesigns

      Thank you very much @@chris-piascik , I just tried and it works !! 🤩 you were right the texture layout was on a transparent background, as soon as I put white background, it worked perfectly well !
      Thanks again, for this and for your great content !

    Wonderful videos, I had a question though. when i use the "screen" blend mode on my ipad it does nothing.....am i missing something?

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  3 місяці тому +1

      Thank you! So screen works my showing only through the black areas but it needs the white areas to block the rest. It sounds like maybe your layer just has the black. Try making a new layer below the black layer and fill it with white and then merge it with the black layer.

    Hey there Chris, love the videos!! I’m trying to recreate the custom texture and the screen blend mode isn’t working for me. Every time I switch the blend mode to screen it just makes my texture layer disappear almost like It turned it off completely. Not sure if you’ve run into the same issue, but I’d love to hear if you have any tips. Thanks for all the great content!😊

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  5 місяців тому

      Thanks! Do you have a white background on the layer? The white will block and the texture will let the art below through.

    Hey Chris, is there a way to add an image to an active layer in adobe fresco in a vector format? kinda like how your able to insert a photo in procreate? I was able to add a png image , so wanted to know of there was a hack to doing that thank you.

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  6 місяців тому

      Unfortunately there’s not currently a way to import vector art in the same way. There may be a workaround using libraries but I haven’t figured it out.

    I have a random Fresco question for you! When drawing a closed doodle, let's say a green bean because that's what I'm currently drawing lol, is there an easy way to close the object without having to PERFECTLY line it up? I don't see a snap to beginning option or close object option and I can't seem to line the ends up just right so it doesn't look wonky.

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  6 місяців тому +1

      Hmm there isn’t really, but if you get close you could just zoom in to finish it off? Or if you’re using a vector brush you could draw in the remaining part and then use vector trimming to get rid of the extra bits.

    • @thehallhive9425
      @thehallhive9425 6 місяців тому

      @@chris-piascik pooey! I've tried using the trim that way and it just deletes the entire main line (I've also noticed that you have to have two distinct lines, not just one continuous line that overlaps. For example, a teardrop shape-- if you start at the tip and cross over once you get back to the beginning tip, it still won't work because it's still a single line). It's finicky sometimes. I'm not sure I explained that well. Anyway, I don't like drawing zoomed in too much so I'll just try to get close and then zoom in afterwords to match up. Thanks for answering!

    The free version unfortunately you can't add any brushes at all (even paid ones, or ones from illustrator/photoshop), we can only use what is in the default list - the entire "discover new brushes" list is only available in paid versions. I'll definitely use Capture to make some "stamps" - when you save a file to your library from Capture, it does show up in Fresco!

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes, that’s true. I do think for 9.99/year it’s a pretty incredible deal to get access to all those brushes.

  • @nishajeetkullu5766

    Does it work for vector art as well?

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  5 місяців тому

      Not this process as I was using raster brushes. It’s not easy to get an authentic analog looking texture with vector. And also would make for a cumbersome file with millions of points.

      This workflow more aligns with Photoshop, but there’s definitely ways to add texture in Illustrator.
