I really wanted to like VD but for some reason it makes beat saber unplayable on my quest 3. My pc is good enough to run beat saber just fine, wired in yields best results but the battery dies so quickly connected to my pc. So I'd use air link and plug it into the wall but it had noticeable latency issues. Then I bought VD to see if that would help and by far that was the worst performance. I've played around with the settings, looked up videos and guides, etc but I couldn't get it to work right. I kept trying for the first two weeks the quest 3 was out and gave up on VD after that
@@lolno98 You can buy powered link cables. You can plug those to both your PC and your wall. Then your Quest discharges a lot slower or even not at all
@@lolno98 You are probably overlooking the most important factor that has nothing to do with your PC and headset which is your network setup. It's critical that you have a good router and cable connection from PC to your router to achieve a good quality wireless connection. Most ISP routers just dont cut it. VD discord has a list of good routers. Wifi is very prone to any interference, besides good router you also need to configure it to use a clean channel. That said, even on best setup you will still have 20-40ms latency on Quest and it's just inherent to Quest PCVR. If you have trouble identifying the bottlenecks use the VD overlay that will show during the game which part of your setup causes issues. For me VD runs much worse than AirLink. but it seems to vary from person to person.
@@lolno98 Link cable is ideal for beat saber, Air Link is just slightly behind. VD is fine for most games but there's slightly higher latency than Air Link which while fine for most games, makes a difference in beat saber.
would have loved to see how the oculus quest 1 would do against the others as the controllers are simmilar to the guest pro controller but with a smaller finger placement but at ring
Were you running the Bigscreen Beyond at 72hz? I wonder if the Valve Index at 144hz would be any good, it was always my favorite for beat saber, but its so old and low resolution idk if I could ever go back to it anyway.
Hey I play quest 2 and I got used to the weight and I got to play a value index then I played for a bit I noticed the weight was different and it threw me off for a couple minutes but I got even better on value
You are the only person to have gone to innovative heights to test the tracking on the headsets. I wasn't even aware pro controllers work with Q3 and Q2. This is such an informative video. Subbed.
- They're not the only one, so that's an untrue statement - The second sentence on the Pro Controllers' product page literally says they're compatible, and so many UA-camrs have said as much since they launched. - Ultimately, nothing was actually learned, and no conclusions were made - and they didn't even test everything in working order, and they didn't control for a bunch of things. Not resting properly between each session is a huge fail, for example. This video was terrible science, nothing was learned, and no new information was communicated. I'm glad I watched it at 2.5x speed, and skipped a lot of the fluff.
There's so many factors... stamina, controller settings, tracking optimization, not to mention if you repeatedly do one song, it stands to reason you would improve slightly and then plateau... like I wouldn't be surprised if you just used the same setup for all your takes and came out with similar results. Personally, my ranking in terms of tracker quality for Beat Saber from best to worst: 1. Rift/Rift S - With dedicated sensors for its controllers, it has the most stability and least wobble. The controller itself is lighter than the quest 2/3 not to mention the most well-built. 2. Touch (Quest 2) - very stable, but still has some wobble when compared to the Rift. 3. Quest Pro - decent tracking, but camera based tracking means it has a higher chance of flying off during heated sessions, not to mention it actually occasionally overheats and stops working (literally a notification pops up that says "your controllers are too warm, let them rest for a bit"). 4. Touch Plus (Quest 3) - maybe updates will fix this, but I'm guessing due to the lack of rings like the Q2 controllers, the tracking quality is far less precise. Routinely jumps several inches in random directions, which is terrible for BS. Quest 3 also doesn't have top-facing cameras like the Q2. 5. Knuckles - haven't seriously tested this one yet but lighthouse tracked means it does have good tracking, it's just... heavy and not balanced well, and requires a whole different set of grip settings.
@Naysy What setting do you need to change so it doesnt look like 320p? I have the quest 2 in the oculus device setting changes to 120hz and max res. I also have OVR advanced setting on steam that can make game play manageable reading text is often to pixalated to read.
4:57... hmmm, what are the odds of 2 runs (attempt 3 on both Pro and Quest ) being exactly the same score. As a data analyst at my company would say "smells suspiciously spurious"
Hey Naysy, have you changed your in game controller settings for any one these? If not, the default settings for the knuckles are terrible and could explain why you consistently score lower using the bigscreen beyond. The default angle the saber is aligned to the controller is very different in the knuckles vs quest controllers, so quest could have an unexpected advantage 🤔
Was the quest tests done with the native beatsaber game or did you user virtual desktop? If virtual desktop was not used could you do those tests as well?
It was standalone. I have such issues getting virtual desktop running well and trying to record at the same time. I don’t feel like it would be a good representation. But I might test it more and try optimise my setup.
nice video, ironically ive found the psvr 1 move controllers to be the best feel for beat saber, ignoring the basic tracking (but thats about all they were good for)
Absolutely agree - can't understand it either. I love the sense controllers, and enjoy playing beat saber with them, but it feels a little more exhausting than using the much heavier move controllers. The quest 2 controllers were easy enough to use, but I always felt like they were going to fly out of my hands. Maybe it's because they're the controllers that are closest to ligthsaber hilts ;-)
Ok, i’m hopefully attending a augmented reality meet up at the end of the week and went to do a little extra research and I found this video helpful. So here you are: banana.
The controllers are more important for this than the headset in isolation, any headset with good responsiveness and clarity will work fine, the controllers on the other hand, weight, form factor and tracking are so important. I've been a lighthouse tracking guy for a while, but recently got the Quest 3 and have been surprised by how good the tracking is, wouldn't say it's as good as lighthouse, but it's far closer than I expected and the controllers are just so much lighter and easier to move without fatigue, so I'll take a 1-2% reduction in tracking for 80% increase in mobility.
I've only ever had a PSVR 1 and a PSVR 2 and I completely agree with you. The controllers on the PSVR 2 make it much harder to play well, even compared to PSVR 1, which I loved playing on since the controllers were the most like actual Saber hilts.
Great video! Seriously good stuff, I've been waiting on a video like this since the q3 dropped, And I think you did a great job comparing the headsets and trying to keep it level and even. My Quest 3 comes today, any minute cannot wait to try it out! It'll be my daily driver for at least some time.
banana!! but in all seriousness, this video helped me confirm that i do want to buy the quest 3 (along with your other video where you tried th quest 3 out) more than i thought i do.
Banana! Surprising results in the data but I definitely think the conclusion of controller weight makes sense. I'm still northside of I want to upgrade to the bigscreen and lose out on 144hz, but I definitely want that screen.
Weight is a big factor, maily in the faster maps. The energy you must spend to stop the directions you are cutting and reverse it grows exponetially with the speed and weight. So the ligher the controller the better. So if everything else was the same, the index controller would be the worst to play beat saber.
I do have a quest 2 and valve index controller (waiting for my Bigscreen) and I find the index controller very bad for beat saber… yes they are heavy but I dislike where the sword come out from them and couldn’t adjust them for a better angle….
I really need to look into alternative PCVR controllers. I can't use the quest controllers on the index if not I would. The claw grip is so efficient. 😭
Hello ! I just discovered your channel and wondered if you had a video that would guide anyone that wants to buy a vr headset depending on its prefered way to play or platform (like standalone vr or vr tgrough steam, and if through steam, what's the best option for windows, for linux and maybe for mac, dunno if they support vr through steam on mac). Great rythm tho in the video pacing and overall your channel seems pretty great when we want to dive into VR. +1 sub.
@@Naysy Oh I was just being curious ! Plus I know nothing about VR news but maybe new hardware may be announced later this year, maybe waiting towards the end of the year is indeed a better idea. I was just wondering if you had videos were the platforms or the prefered way to play, I'll chevk others year videos then (as I think I understood you make those kind of videos towards christmas so you already did some) and maybe I could get some interesting infos already !
Banana. Also I was trying to decide if beat saber is something I should consider paying for. If you could do a video on that, that would be cool, or point me to the video you did or someone else who did that
I just got the pro controllers for my quest 2, and it was immediately obvious they were so much better for beat saber than the regular controllers. Now when I miss, I know it was my fault. There were so many times with the standard controllers where I swear I sliced that block and it just wouldn't give it to me.
Mad theory - what if PC version of the beatsaber has different settings or slight code changes compared to quest's standalone, that leads to different scores
I think the fact that the Quest 3 is still competitive against its newer sibling is pretty banana. Er, bananas. ;) Much as I’d like to add a Steam VR setup to my kit, I’m still pretty happy with my Quest 2. I don’t think I’ll need to upgrade unless there is a major shift, or I suffer a hardware failure.
IMHO, for it to be a truly level playing field the Quests should all have been on PCVR via Link cable. That'd mitigate any "extra forgivingness" baked into the standalone version of Beat Saber.
Hey Naysy how about some bloopers that you have posted in the past and also do a clip on how to set up for safety to avoid getting hurt or damaging your home. Sorry to be off topic.
Thank you for this! I’ve been beating my q2 scores with the q3. I still think I need to perfect my controller settings. All in all, it’s a great headset!
I play on the Quest 3 and i watched back my attempt on Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by Skrillex because i thought i did really well and i noticed some notes i blatantly missed but it let me off. 🤔 So i think that may contribute to your theory that the Quest has more forgiveable tracking to cover up its less accurate tech.
Controller weight is probably the big factor here… migrating from psvr1 stick-like controller to heavier psvr2 gun-like controller made a LOT difference on arm fatigue ! Light stick-like controller is definitely the way to go for fast action cutting action ! Also, i would compare serie average and not peak. And it is very probable that the game make it more forgiving for some platform..,
The reason you scored better on the quest headsets is because of swing bug, where the headset predicts position between frames. This means higher scores. The swing bug is more powerful on low refresh rate headsets. This means you’d probably do even better on the quest 1
Welp..I'm rewriting my christmas list... thank you for this video!! Here I thought I needed a pro..but now I think I just need the flippin controllers! Darn it! Banana!!!
I think the issue with the scores could be the latency when using the BigScreen. You have more latency going out to the PC and back to the HMD. When you play stand alone on the Quest headsets you don't have the latency of having the processing happening at the far end of a cable. Does it contribute more than more forgiving tracking that may be helping you out on the Quests? Who knows, but it is another variable.
The Bigscreen Beyond and valve index have no real latency related to the cable. They both use displayport so they basically operated only as displays. Different than quest pcvr where there is some encoding decoding going on that creates some display latency. Now lighthouse tracked controllers are just different than inside out tracking, so how they choose to apply predictive algorithms in each could change a bunch of things. But she is probably right that weight matters. Have used both and if you assume tracking is identical (or close enough), quest controllers are just a lot lighter.
playing beat saber for hours and hours on end.. for science! very interesting results though. So far Quest3 is better for me because the controllers are so much lighter than Q2 which makes a huge difference, it's almost effortless now.
Good start, but not including any information about used refresh rate, the Quest 3 and 2 were the only ones that can run above 90hz (excluding PSVR2) and the platform used: Using Quests with PCVR Beat Saber results in latency that alters the experience drastically, is not very scientific at all.

2024, still playing Beat Saber on my PS-VR-1
Maybe your controller offsets with your Index controllers need to be tweaked.
Sad to not see the Valve Index on the docket. That's what I have access to, and it's sad to not have a point of comparison.
You are the only person to have gone to innovative heights to test the tracking on the headsets. I wasn't even aware pro controllers work with Q3 and Q2. This is such an informative video. Subbed.
- They're not the only one, so that's an untrue statement
- The second sentence on the Pro Controllers' product page literally says they're compatible, and so many UA-camrs have said as much since they launched.
@@ReclaimerTyphoonHoly shit bro please get laid
I haven’t run into the haptic issue with the Q3 + pro controllers, but they take a long time to first wake up.
There's so many factors... stamina, controller settings, tracking optimization, not to mention if you repeatedly do one song, it stands to reason you would improve slightly and then plateau... like I wouldn't be surprised if you just used the same setup for all your takes and came out with similar results.
Personally, my ranking in terms of tracker quality for Beat Saber from best to worst:
You did all the tests in pcvr?
@Naysy What setting do you need to change so it doesnt look like 320p? I have the quest 2 in the oculus device setting changes to 120hz and max res. I also have OVR advanced setting on steam that can make game play manageable reading text is often to pixalated to read.
4:57... hmmm, what are the odds of 2 runs (attempt 3 on both Pro and Quest ) being exactly the same score. As a data analyst at my company would say "smells suspiciously spurious"
Banana! You got me wanting to test the pro controller on quest 3 now
Is it possible to do the mixed r on psvr2 so you see the full back
Hey Naysy, have you changed your in game controller settings for any one these? If not, the default settings for the knuckles are terrible and could explain why you consistently score lower using the bigscreen beyond. The default angle the saber is aligned to the controller is very different in the knuckles vs quest controllers, so quest could have an unexpected advantage 🤔
I’ve never been able to find any offsets I like.😭 But I should try and experiment with it a bit more.
Please do a comparison between Pico 4 Ultra and Quest 3
Great! Now I gotta get Quest pro controllers for my Quest 2! 😮🤔💵
For the modding it has not worked for me and what is the new version for the modding
nice video, ironically ive found the psvr 1 move controllers to be the best feel for beat saber, ignoring the basic tracking (but thats about all they were good for)
Absolutely agree - can't understand it either.
Smart glasses review coming up? :)
What firmware version are your quest 3 controllers?
If its about controller weight... Etee's? Lighter than index controllers, still uses lighthouse tracking
Thank you, been waiting for this!
The only science I need to know is coke and Mentos
I've only ever had a PSVR 1 and a PSVR 2 and I completely agree with you. The controllers on the PSVR 2 make it much harder to play well, even compared to PSVR 1, which I loved playing on since the controllers were the most like actual Saber hilts.
Fr, the PSVR1 controllers look like light saber handles 😂😂😂
I run a Quest 3 (with Quest 3 controllers). So far this constellation has not given me any trouble :)
No cv1 test? I believe that may still be better. As long as you have your sensors and room set up well. The controllers are still my favourite.
So, pretty much, my quest 3 works great for beat saber. noted.
How come you didn’t include the valve index?
Banana! Surprising results in the data but I definitely think the conclusion of controller weight makes sense. I'm still northside of I want to upgrade to the bigscreen and lose out on 144hz, but I definitely want that screen.
I really like this video, love the new style 😃
Weight is a big factor, maily in the faster maps. The energy you must spend to stop the directions you are cutting and reverse it grows exponetially with the speed and weight. So the ligher the controller the better. So if everything else was the same, the index controller would be the worst to play beat saber.
Banana. Like your method of comparing them. More practice than theory. Could use a rough comparison in an ambiental game, too.
Haha Beta I have quest one still. It may crash or just not work sometimes but it's been with me for years!
index controllers are good tho
I think steam beatsaber has smaller tolerance beacuse it thinks you are using outside-in tracking, but on quest there's bigger tolerance.
+1 sub.
I’ll try work on one. I usually make those videos a bit closer to Christmas time
@@Naysy Oh I was just being curious !
Hi, bmbf v51+ working on Q2 v53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 59 ? thanks
Beautiful and smart! A great combination.
The garsh setup
Thanks for the very informative video! I love the Mysthbusters Science style! Thanks Naysy! BANANA all day lol
Thank you for this! I’ve been beating my q2 scores with the q3. I still think I need to perfect my controller settings. All in all, it’s a great headset!
but what's the best for modding
I play on the Quest 3 and i watched back my attempt on Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by Skrillex because i thought i did really well and i noticed some notes i blatantly missed but it let me off. 🤔
So i think that may contribute to your theory that the Quest has more forgiveable tracking to cover up its less accurate tech.
Where is the pico 4?
Pico 4 does not have beat saber
@@Forgaming415 you can install it on pico4
@@Forgaming415W
Came from index to quest 3 and ended up with quest 3 paired with index controller instead. quest controller is just too small.
playing beat saber for hours and hours on end.. for science! very interesting results though. So far Quest3 is better for me because the controllers are so much lighter than Q2 which makes a huge difference, it's almost effortless now.
S-tier content yet again Professor Naysy!!! 🙌💙
At least I now have an excuse for my PS VR2 Beat Saber scores 😅
Good start, but not including any information about used refresh rate, the Quest 3 and 2 were the only ones that can run above 90hz (excluding PSVR2) and the platform used:
Using Quests with PCVR Beat Saber results in latency that alters the experience drastically, is not very scientific at all.
whats about the valve index?
Where is Valve Index?
Broken
this is what we needed thanks
You’re insane at beat saber this should be the topic of the video lmao
Valve index 😢?
Maybe its because you developed a muscle memory due to the inertia of the heavier headset which is now missing in the lighter bigscreen beyond?
Actually science > trash tier list. Great work!
No rift?
