I've built my Yugo SKS exacrly like this. This was the foundation for all my hard work. I cut the barrel down and recrowned it. And did everything else.
great video. no ums or ahhhs no repeating yourself and no trips down some rabbit trail. you showed us what you did with great camera work, a well written script and good sound quality. short sweet & to the point. i will be watching your other videos. thank for such a good video
Thanks Bill. haha one of my few videos that i banged through without the "Uhs" and "Ahs" I try to edit all of that out. Thanks for watching!
Man, what a beautiful build that is...
I just got my first SKS (and I love it!) and you've certainly given me some food for thought there!
Really love the focal points how it goes from blurry to focused
What a beauty.if i keep watching these sks videos are going to make me buy 3 of them. I paid $85 for one in 96 and now they go for 400 up. Should have held on to her she looked like new.
aint that the sad truth! Wish i would have been of age to buy in those years!
I really like your rifle. Great look with the Timbersmith stock, really classy. Peep sights are always on point for us retired Army types, so kudos for that upgrade. I have two SKS rifles - a "paratrooper" and a plain Jane type 56, both from Norinco. Thanks to your inspiration, my 20" model will be seeing some of your upgrades soon, and I thank you so much for sharing!.
+Jamie Shows hey thanx for checkin it out Jamie !
Now that is a gorgeous SKS! If I had not just finished a 12.5" AR and had a few barrels for other builds to work with, I'd be all over this but this is definitely on the list!
However, I'd rather go with a pin and weld job with a dynacomp vs the 17". The velocity difference would be tiny and would increase the overall handiness.
Oh man GOOD call on the rear aperture sight!!!! LOVE the setup!!!! Great video.
Absolutely excellent, excellent video. Very articulate and extremely informative. You have a beautiful rifle now and you have convinced me to create one of my own for carrying around the ranch for protection against four and two legged varmints. Thank you.
Way too cool. I like what you did a lot here. Definitely one of the best looking sks out there.
By far the best looking SKS I've seen, Nice work
Love it, Z. Seriously love this project!
One of the best looking SKS's on youtube, beautiful!!!
very true. this is a great looking build
far the best looking SKS. Modest, no black no WW2 looking, its just a perfect.
Very impresive. I like the way you took a unique approach to making the rifle fit your needs.
***** Happy to do watch. Did you ever do the muzzle break, and the scope, and the magazine adapter video's? I looked on your page was unable to find them? Very interested in the process. Thanks very much.
I love what you did with your Yugo. I always wanted to do it with mine but when I had it I remember reading something that it was illegal to modify import guns or guns made before a certain date or SOMETHING which is why I never even attempted to cut off the totally helpful grenade launcher.
Also since you use the Tapco mags the Tapco stock isn't that bad even though you said you didn't want polymer.
dude love your sks.its actually one of my favorite rifle and you did a fantastic job on your set up
thanx man! I was really happy with how it turned out.
Absolutely gorgeous mate. I'll buy one shortly. They are widely available here in new Zealand even with 16" barrel
turned out very nice;great job!
It is hard to beat an SKS. One of my favorite rifles. Great job on this one. Looks great.
sir you did an outstanding job on this rifle
+pso89 i have to Agree, its so wonderfully done, AWESOME WORK =)
Very nice. Beautiful job.
Really sweet looking gun! The ak nuzzle brake is really effective but makes the gun seem way louder. As a recreational shooter maybe a Krebs type ak flash hider or a Bulgarian Krinkoff flash hider might improve your comfort. But hey it's your gun and you can set it up anyway you want! The montecarlo laminate stock looks really nice. Too bad the tapco stock won't let you keep the bayonet cause you never know!
I own 5 different SK's and I know alot about them But what youve done with this one is Awesome.. Very Nice job...Im in the middle of my 6th SKS projecy and this video help out....thanks
cool that you did something custom and classy, love the SKS platform
Thank you, Sean!
Thanks man! Cut my barrel down today, took about 2 hours. Looks great!
Does it still cycle properly?
awesome videos man. ive got a Chinese SKS just sitting around and am going to order parts for it right now!
Thanks for the link for the rear sights. They look awesome, and will definitely be checking it out down the road,
no problem!
Man that thing is sweet! My SKS is the paratrooper model and the shorter barrel is a handy size.
I love your SKS. I have it as the wallpaper on my phone. ❤️
nice! thanks for the compliment!
Beautiful wood stock...
Well done mods...
I actually took front sight off with bayonet lug. I put a matador picatinny rail that goes in at rear sight with a pin and now I just run a nice red dot on my norinco!
I love this video and have used a lot of your ideas with my two SKSs.
Right on! Glad our video helped out! Thanx for the comment!
Yeah I really like this setup. In fact I put my norinco back in the wood stock. I'm in a restoration process. Feels great with a short barrel.
SKS looks great, you did a good job on the video too
Thanks man!
An excellent job.......Liked your work on the 17" Mosin too.
***** That would be a very nice touch for all of us amateur gunsmiths out here. Too bad the price of a Mosin 91/30 have gone up so much.......
***** Have a good 4th..........
That is a superb job on that SKS rifle! Looks awesome! I might have to do the same thing to mine.
thank you!
@@ZRUSOutdoorsChannel You're welcome..it is a well deserved compliment! :-)
Great vid ! that's one beautiful sks 😍
love the sight setup definitely doing this
thanx for checking it out, good luck!
Very Nice work on Yugo ... Big thumb UP!!
+GlückLapin 幸福的味道 thank you
Gave a thumbs up even though I'm a big time milsurp collector and purist. Your rifle, do what you want. It looks amazing, but I wish people would stick with commercial Norincos when they wanna chop one.
Ok, off my soapbox. :) Great looking rifle!!!!
lol thanx man
He turned the "YUGO M1A" into the "YUGO M1A Scout Squad" And it looks bad ass!! I may check in to how much all that's gonna cost!!
Looks good. I have some similar mods on one of my SKS's. You might consider a Kivaari trigger job. It's totally worth it and will improve the accuracy even more.
Tech Sighs are awesome. I installed some on a ruger 10/22.
Probably the best looking and coolest functioning SKS I've ever seen. Well done!
Thank you!
That's one sweet sks awesome job bro
hey great vid thats one nice looking sks. if your thinking of putting a scope on i would recommend grinding down the ejection port which allows the shells to shoot out more sideways than upwards so you dont have to worry about shells hitting your scope. it works great when you dont want to use a shell deflector and if using a choate mount still allows use of the iron sights!
Beautiful set up
Very very nice, that stock is a beauty. I like my old norinco.
Beautiful job!
Damn. That shell pouch will fit the 7.62x39 strippers but won't fit any silver bullets!
Pretty neat build. The grain on that replacement stock really mimics the grain on the original Yugo stock but far more pronounced. I just picked up a Yugo last week. It's the 4th SKS i've owned and was looking up what people were doing with theirs and stumbled across this video. I'm going to keep mine stock. I wouldn't call myself a "purist" because that, to me, means that by modifying something you're diluting its greatness or effectiveness. I don't think that's true. I'm just more nostalgic rather than a purist. I buy the old school mil surps because I like the old school stuff the way it is :). Now that being said the SKS has been a popular modification host for YEARS. It's well suited to it. Good mechanism, most are nicely built. Enjoy!
I’ve always thought SKSs were about the ugliest surplus rifle out there but this one is a definite exception, very nice build.
thanks man!
bought an SKS about 15 years ago for $100. Wish I would have bought a dozen. Had issues with the external mags. But things have changed in the mag world
Every time I look at this rifle, I grow more impressed by it. Well done, Z.
Hmmm, try www.blackthorneproducts.com.
That thing is just perfect.
Glad I found your channel.
happy to have you! enjoy your stay!
Nicely done; the rifle and the video.
thank you!
First time I have ever seen one of these look good...
Nicely done!
Really really looks great
Lovely. So jealous of your build.
Great video and sweet rifle. How did you line up the prince 50 post, did you just eyeball it? and how do you swap out the old sight drum does it just push out of the old post? *****
Nice rifle. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful build job on a legendary Russian classic!
Thank you!
for a skinny dude you got some big arms.. Im just a skinny dude all around. Props to you!
Well done! The only complaint I have about the TimberSmith line is the lack of a front sling swivel. It seems like a small thing, but if you plan on scoping it (Choate side mount) and shooting from a bench, a Harris bipod-perfectly centered, is much better than a barrel attached bipod. You said you did it yourself. (Nice job!) I did the same thing, but it's not a "quickie", accurately tapping into laminated wood. Looks really good! It's your gun; you used a proven action to build what you wanted. Those who disapprove aren't required to do the same.
hey thanx for checking it out man!
+caseyjoanz Your comment confuses me.. Why does the TimberSmith stock need a front sling swivel? The SKS already has a sling loop built into the gas block (at least the Yugo does.. never owned any others.) Are you referring to the rear sling swivel? THAT you do lose if you go away from the factory buttstock.
+crazyfvck In my opinion, the only problem with the TimberSmith stock is the lack of a bayonet groove. The integral bayonet on the SKS is one of the things that I love about it.. It's a shame to get rid of it, just for the sake of upgrading to a nicer buttstock.
A Harris-style bipod requires a sling swivel to mount it. Unless you want to screw a rail into wood. Other than that, you're putting your bipod on the barrel. For benchrest shooting that affects the barrel's harmonics. Anything that touches the barrel and puts the slightest alteration as to how it flexes as combustion presses the projectile forward disrupts it's resonance and alters it's consistency. That's why a free-floated barrel has an advantage.
Wow, what a rifle... Very nice job..
It's crazy. You guys were getting those so cheap you could take a saw to it. These are now worth over $800-$1,000 and taking a saw to it would be suicide for the value.
Nice build 🤘
Its really beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great build!
thanks man!
Great job, nice rifle!!
BRAC19 AVENGER thanks!
Some good modification of a very good rifle.
Thank you Gene!
That wood stock is beautiful
Tapco timbersmith!
Looks great!
thank you!
I have an sks with a very good stock on it . Looks like it was never issued. But this stock on yours looks quite nice. I eventually would like to get one.
Beautiful build
***** been good jus working a lot while I can get the hours. From your vids looks like y'all are doing great glad to here and see. Trying to get some decent gear for somerun and gun schooling this summer. Thinking it be alot of fun instead of bench shooting. With the way this build turned out might night be bad to do a service Bussiness as a hobby.
***** bubbas house of pain lmao to damn funny. Currently looking at chest rigs and drop legs plate carriers. I ve been using an NC star vest which o recently updated to condor rig. Which is great except the cross back straps are pain to adjust and remove and get into. The condor drop leg works great but looking for something more professional grade.
***** the 556 rifle I put together. Delton lower and delton lpk roush pistol buffer tube kit and bcm charging handle and kc venom 7.5 upper with key mod rail. For this summer I ll probably get a Anderson carbine length upper for the schooling
Awesome my friend!! Ive got more SKS's then Carter's got pills..and in all denominations..lol. Trying to figure which one to use to copy your build...that is one sweet rifle!!
I love the build. The only thing I don't like is replacing the 10 round internal mag with 20 or 30 round duck bill mags. If I want to do that I would probably get an ak-47 but that's just me. Nice build by the way.
thanks for making this video
Sweet build
Nice set up.
SWEET LOOKING GUN !
I WENT WITH TAPCO ON MINE
AUDREY RAIL FOR SCOPE WITH VECTOR 2 X 6 ON IT
I WOULDN'T CALL MINE BUSH GUN IT WEIGHT OVER 9 POUNDS MY BOLT CZ IS 6 IN COMPARISON AND THAT'S MY BUSH RIFLE .
THAT WOOD LOOKS GREAT !
Love the stock.
Of course you utterly destroyed the original SKS, brother!
But you did an exelent job creating your own look !!!
Thanks man!
i modeled my build on this slightly, Russian muzzle break on front with the same bi pod. High vis iron sights, stuck with the 20" barrel and tapco 20 rounder with butt extension. she looks sweet as :) greeting form new zealand
I've never wanted an sks so bad in my life. So sick! 👍🏼
Best SKS ever...hands down.
well thanks man!
love it bro
best sks i have seen
I would be happier if my SKS "Sporter" came with the stripper clip guide and bolt hold-open.
Norinco stocks are nice for small/short people like me, but I would modify the grip for a more natural angle.
great project man! You need me to mail you some airplane bottles for that ammo pouch? Heheh.
Beautiful rifle
Really nice
Very nice!
Take a look at the WarTak scope mount looks like well engineered product firm mount and proteccts your scope
Sending mine to your house just send it back when your done I'll pay you for it lol. Nice sks it's beautiful
no more of the timber smith stocks left but, Boyds makes a few different ones for the Yugo SKS and you can hand fit them to a Norinco or a Tula super easy and they are just as nice or nicer than the timber smith
That's awesome
Good lookin rifle brother..
Just curious.. does that timbersmith stock improve length of pull?
Dibs on your old stock! And I really want to see the AK muzzle brake installation. I want to put a Krink or AK74 style on mine.
Coors fits good enough
