That is not how you do it. You need to put that whole batter on a baking tray and then cook it in the owen.

+Skege1000 I've seen that too but that's how my Finnish friends mom makes it! Maybe better for smaller crowds?

Skege1000 Agreed! I have never seen it made this way. Very strange to me 🤔

In Latvia we make something similar to a french pancake batter but we add more flour and whip it. We also make them less than 10cm in diameter.

Good to know!! Didn’t have that while in. Latvia

I am finnish and my grandmother has never oven baked the pancakes. Our pancakes have always been thin and never like that. Then again, different regions maybe.

Amanda Niemi Hei, my mom is from the Savo region of Finland. While she has made the "lettuja" (that you're describing) plenty of times, she usually prefers to make the "uuni pannukakku" shown here.

Lätyt ja pannukakku (tai ropsu XDD) on eri asiat, mut joo, meilki tehään aina lättyjä

Welll... I guess that's one way to make them. But we usually cook it in the oven using baking tray.

The key is preheating the pan. However I have just always used a cakepan.
I have used dozens of recipes for Pannukakku and once you learn a few methods and recipes you can figure out whether you like if firmer (more flour), more like a custard or somewhere in between.
One of the recipes I use the most is; 6 eggs, one cup of flour, mix well. Add 3 cups of milk, a pinch of salt, a tsp vanilla and a 1/4 cup of sugar. Mix well. Melt 1/4 cup of butter in your baking pan, add the batter and put into a hot oven. The Pannukakku should look like it's going to explode out of the pan and the brown edges should be rolling over into the pan. It will settle back down when it's taken out of the oven.
It is good with fresh berries and melon with a little maple syrup. However my grandmother Paananen served it best and I highly recommend this: pour a little heavy cream or half and half over it then sprinkle a little granulated white sugar over the top.

Another thing that I do with this for children is I add Hershey's strawberry syrup. However like many great recipes are discovered they are often from mistakes. I use to mix the strawberry syrup right into the batter until I forgot to do it one time. The pancake had cooked for about 5 minutes and I pulled it out and added the syrup over the setting pancake. The syrup sunk to the bottom of the pan.
When fully cooked it was wonderful with this stratified strawberry candied bottom.
Still the cream and sugar is incredible and amplifies the simplicity of what this dish is.
btw, I stumbled across your channel while searching for how to make Viili. Nice channel.
Finns aren't known for their cuisine, that's for sure, but their popular dishes that they do make are worthy. The fish baked in rye bread and fish soup with dill are very worthy. And Reindeer is very good, especially braised, just like most wild game. Us Americans have forgotten braising. .....not sure if you eat much meat but if you do doesn't some simple Puerto Rican drummies and Rice and Beans sound good?

I eat hot cakes (also called flapjacks and pancakes). I ate crêpes a couple of times and I tried this crunchy "fried pita bread pancake tortilla-like thing." They were all yummy!
