Great video, we were having the same issue with our Corsair 880 Sport, my friend is an aerospace engineer that has worked at NASA for quite awhile but now works for a company that designs and builds INDY cars. His solution to the problem was similar to the deflector show cased here, except he designed so it can be deflected like flaps on an airplane, its a little bit longer and wider and made from carbon fiber, it really does the job. I also installed a dodger and a full cockpit enclosure to help keep dry on rainy days. The dodger really helps just in case a huge wave hits especially when were reaching 17 to 21 Knots.

Who is the sailmaker that made those sails for you? The square top main looks really nice!

Have you done any channel crossings to Molokai and Maui with your Corsair. I'm curious how it does out there on our normal trade wind days. I also live on Oahu and am considering a Corsair for inter island cruising. Thoughts?

Mark has done multiple inter-island crossings with his F-27 over the years and I've met the crews of two other F-27s who came to Oahu from Maui -- the crew on one of them (true story) consisted of an 80+ year old man and woman (both had circumnavigated on other boats).

I would have mounted it the other way up, for better downward deflection…

Did you build the companion way hatch slider yourself ? looks like a custom design ...

what are your thoughts on cutting a couple slots in the ama's and reinforcing them and installing foils!????

This is a very cool idea , Where is this installed at? I am not following here? is this on the arm that extends the ama? So you are just inclosing the hole in the beam structure?

Mark installed the deflector around the rear strut. Normally, water occasionally hits the strut and blasts it straight up between the tramp and the after end of the cockpit. The deflector diverts the energy of the oncoming water over and under itself. From 2:44 onward, Mark explains the reasoning behind, the construction and the installation on the rear strut (you may have to turn the audio up a tad).

You can get a feeling for how it works by watching the last frames in the video. The concept is simple. The forward-facing blunt surface of the aluminum struts coming across from the ama to the main hull cause water that hits them to shoot straight up through the hole between the after main hull and the after inside corner of the tramp. Mark's "wing" device (aka deflector) presents a sharp forward edge to oncoming water allowing the force of the water to be dissipated over the wing.
