    PROBLEM WAS SOLVED!!!
Problem ended up being my power cord. After a replacement unit was sent it stopped working as well, I also Purchased the G8 so I took the power cord fron my G8 and it worked no problem. Contacted griots and they sent me a free 25ft cord and since then it's been working fine.. still to this day works with the 25ft griots power cord.

Ya, mine got stuck in the on position (trigger lock not activated) so unplugged after fiddling with it but then after plugging back in…….nothing. But I think it is my power cord maybe since the instructions make a point of gauge recommendation for the unit. Either way pain in the azz.

Great video!! I scrolled down on the comments and I saw someone post that Griots has a lifetime warranty. So I called them explained to customer service that the polisher kept cutting off on me and that I have bought the polisher over 2 years ago. The gentleman on the phone told me to go to their weans download a copy of their return policy. He told me that they will replace it with a new one !!!! I totally agree with everyone, Customer Service is second to none!!!

Great review! I too liked the G9 A LOT. However, I encountered the same problem with 2 machines, back to back. Griot’s customer service is second to none. Both of the machines failed 1st use, straight out of the box, after only a few hours of use each time. Both machines failed the EXACT same way depicted in the video. Let me add a disclaimer, I’m new to this whole scene, BRAND NEW! The G9 was my 1st machine ever. I bought it based on reviews and the fact that it’s made to be user friendly. With that in mind, the machines were NOT abused, overheated or being used improperly. Yes, technique issues, being new, but nothing out of the ordinary for a new weekend warrior. Again, my machines failed the EXACT way they did in the video. Honestly, this video makes me feel a bit better. I really like the machine and the Griot’s people were great with both returns. I decided to go in another direction unfortunately. I hope they fix the issue with the line. The customer service alone is worth another try down the road.

Michelle, first all thank you for commenting!!! 2 machines?? That's crazy. The same way. Its unfortunate because I truly love GriotsGarage but I mean facts are facts. I'll be putting my G9 to the test again once I get my other unit. The Griots customer service is indeed fantastic but I don't wanna be on the phone with them returning another G9. I sure hope not. If you don't mind me asking what route did you end up going with?? Appreciate your comment. And I hope my viewers get this info as well. O spoke highly of theG9 based off of initial use. But as you said the first car I did I had that cutting out problem.

No questions asked, lifetime warranty, easily priced, Griot’s Garage is the GOAT.
Glad to see your patience and perseverance/loyalty with the G9 brostapo.
I like to switch on and off between the G9 and the cordless Milwaukee 15mm DA.
It keeps polishing fun and cathartic.
To the point where I don’t need music, just the sound of the machine keeps me in tune.
That never happens, I’m a audiophile, am I the only one who thinks polishing is cathartic? The G9 plays a big role in that.

Since the damage was to just 1 brush, my guess would be the brush/spring assembly itself was defective/out of spec when installed since both brushes run on the same commutator. If it was both brushes then I'd guess the commutator had a defect. I'd blow out the hole and install a new set (after inspecting) and see if it cured the problem. You can still send it back but then you'd know what happened since if it's the commutator it will do the same thing to the new brush.
If I got a new G9 now, I'd inspect the brushes before even turning it on just to check... I am an EE but not an electric motor expert so this is my educated gut. If folks aren't sure how electric motors work I can try to explain it but will spare you guys my ramblings otherwise.

Bigoldog, what's up my friend! Thank you for the input. Much appreciated! I hope that my subscribers can take some away from the video and this comment. The other brush had a little marring as well. Idk I almost did just blow it out and put in another ste but I didnt want it in the back of my mind that the unit may cut out again. Lol I just wanted a new unit. I didn't think I'd have to inspect brushes out of box. Granted I've never even had to replace a set on any polisher before. Still fairly new to the polishers and what not. But I would love to know how the motor and brushes work. Never one to turn down knowledge of anything!.👍👍 appreciate you man! @@PapaSmurf918Detail You're welcome. This should also help (see the picture with labels) with what Scott was talking about below. The copper bars on the commutator (part of the armature) is what I think he's talking about. Since both brushes were marred, one of those contacts must be raised or something...www.groschopp.com/how-to-check-a-motor-armature/ as you'll see, brushes ride on the commutator sending current down successive coils - as the armature spins. That creates a magnetic field that opposes a magnetic field created by the stator (non spinning part of the motor inside the housing) that creates the force to spin the rotor - aka armature.

@@PapaSmurf918Detail Hey bud, just received my G9! IMO, For the first polisher I've ever held in my hands it feels comfortable to hold, solid construction, loudness is definitely tolerable, and fairly lightweight. Pulled both carbon brushes before turning it on. Both were similar shaped. Both had a slight concave on the end touching the motor. On both brushes, the ends touching the motor, half on the ends had mars/scratches, i guess from factory testing where the motor had been rotating. Normal looking i guess?
As far as vibration, with the pre installed 6" backing plate with no pad i could feel it vibrating into my hands and arms slightly. I guess i could say similar to a smaller weed eater just spinning not cutting grass. I wish i could compare it better, but at this time i cant think of anything else.
I bought the newer model black GG 5" backing plate and instantly the vibration was about half of before w/ the 6" plate. Much smoother feeling, but still a slight vibration throughout my hands. More vibration near the platypus grip then the handle with both backing plates. When using for a whole vehicle if my hands or arms go numb I'll probably return it for a different polisher.
Soon as weather clears up this week I'm going to tackle some mild swirling on my 2 vehicles and also put some wax on them. That will be the true test. Im going to use it as much as I can before winter sets in and before the 6 month return period so I'll know forsure if its the one for me.

As long as it doesn't look like you scraped it across the cement I think your ok. I did notice when your on speed 6 it tends to vibrate a little but nothing to make or break my world. Usually stick around 4-5. I just really like how light and comfortable the machine is. Good luck with your 2 vehicles and keep me posted!! Follow me on Instagram if you have one. I had the same thing happen. Used once and the next time it did not turn on. I took be blind side pieces off in the middle pieces under the springs were worn.. and when I put them back in the machine..it came back on.. that seems to be the problem with those machines.. Love the G9 but last night I was using it to polish a deck lid on a 300C….worked flawlessly….go to do a contract job on a Camaro SS, nothing. Even though I bought my G9 on Amazon and went beyond my one month warranty that Amazon provided, I took your advice and called Griots Garage customer service. I discussed my issues with a gentleman who quickly explained that I should return my G9 to them in Indiana too their return department and they would ship me a new one. He took the time to give me their mailing address and to put Attention: Return Department. Any equipment can be defective from day one, not sure about QA in the factory but just return it get a replacement or your money back

Henry, to us weekend warriors and enthusiasts it may not be a big deal. However, those who do detailing in a business or mobile detailing business that have a unit go back mid job.... yes, it's a big deal. I actually got a replacement unit and it happened again... for a 2nd time. Turns out it was the power cord however still... some can't afford a replacement unit and loose 2 days of business waiting for a new one. I Mean, I just try and put myself in that environment and I'd be mad. But, like I said. I was fortunate enough to have another unit to finish the job I was on when it failed. Had I not... I'd be a week before I could finish and the truck would be 1/4 done😄😄.. I thank you for taking the time to watch my friend! 👍🤝

      Well.......
Threw a pad on it, plugged cord.
      Guess what?
      It works. Ha
Seriously though I like it already only working 2 hours with it so far.
I figured I'd spend a few minutes with it to test it and go back to my Flex being I'm doing a paint Correction on a thrashed F-250.
After working on the hood with the G9 I decided I'll use it for the entire job first complete test.
Thoughts from a full time detailer.
      Balanced
I head FAB the magnificent say how well balanced it was and he was spot on.
      Comfort
Love the design of the G9 meaning no matter where you grab it while working with it it works, important for me because it's nothing for me to put in 12 hour days and need fresh grips as I go along.
      Powerful
I'm running speed 4 1/2 and this darn thing will not bog down on me.
Plenty of power even for the seasoned detailers who do it for a living like me.
Also has a ton of torque, plenty.
      Heat issues
None so far, the built in fan to keep the pad cool works very well.
      Griots are geniuses.
I felt a little tiny of warmth around the housing but not an issue.
Cord is not like most plastic type cords.
It's made of a good quality rubber which will help a lot keeping it in its form.
      Vibration
I tried it on speed 6 which I never run and felt some which is normal for a 1000 watt high torque machine.
Nothing to talk about under speed 5
      Over all experience
It can be beat for around 160.00.
Question is will it totally replace my Flex 3401?
No because in my opinion the Flex is a workhorse and a money maker but I'll have my hands around the G9 often.

I just can't justify spending that much unless I was detailing daily then I may consider that investment. Even with the Boss 15. Shoot, I have gotten fantastic results with my Harbor Freight chicago electric 50 dollar polisher😄 I loved the G9 up until it broke lol. I love my M15 pro as well. Both the G9 and m15 have gave me awesome results 👍. The m15 pro is a little quieter and smoother than the G9 but stalls easier than G9.

Just bought one last month, haven't used it yet. Do you know if this is an issue that was addressed given the amount of problems with the cord? In other words, is it likely I have a bad cord or did Griot's make the adjustment with current models?

Dr. Knight, what's up! Yes, I've gotten a replacement unit and have had no issues with it. Plus, they came out with a version 2 of this machine where the fixed any issues including the cord which I honestly think was the issue with it cutting out. I just did a video on the M15Pro vs G9.. still I'll grab the G9 over the Maxshine.. but the Maxshine is not a bad but whatsoever.

It's nothing crucial to the machine at all, one thing you guys have to understand is those brushes are make out if carbon and something else. This is what happens to brushes all the time sometimes later than sooner it's not a major heartache or anything bad just replace the brushes. The machine should've came with a set but if not order a set and keep a set handy just in case it happens. It's normal wear and tear and how the machine operate/work

    • @PapaSmurf918Detail
      @PapaSmurf918Detail  4 роки тому

Agreed. It literally takes about 5 min tops to swap brushes.. normal wear and tear. In this case it wasn't the brushes that were the issue although one was chewed.. it was the power cord that was my issue and STILL is an ongoing issue with these quick disconnect cords. My replacement units cord already failed me after 4 or 5 jobs. Lol they need to get a handle on this asap.

My G9 has done the same thing. I used it on my 2016 black Honda Civic and when it got warm I had to let it cool and try again. I have 2016 black Tahoe I need to use it on. I used all Griots products according to their instructions. I feel like it has to do with the rubber trapping in heat or acting like a insulator. Metal needs air to cool?

From my understanding it's a cord issue. I've had another go bad on me on my replacement unit. Grabbed my G8 cord and boom.. all good!! The G9 has the fan cooled counterbalance.. mine doesn't get more and like warm. They need to fix that stupid cord issue cause I know people to this day who have had issues.

I appreciate your info and knowledge about this polisher. I’m ready to buy one for myself for my personal vehicles. Which polisher would you recommend for a weekend warrior now that you’ve experienced the G9? Is there a better one out there for the price?

      @PapaSmurf918Detail  4 роки тому

David, thank you I appreciate that! For the weekend warrior the G9 is absolutely perfect.. I'd just recommend buying the 5" backplate to go with it instead of the 6". Also, at a price range of 150 is not bad.
Are there other polishers that will get the job done at a lowerprice.?. Yes, Maxshine aka ( shinemaster ) has a M8s.. which I believe you can find for under 100 bucks. Great entry level polisher to start on. Plus, once you get comfortable with that you can change out the backplate to 3" then step up to a G9 or something similar👍 this way you have your dedicated 3" and your 5" . Swapping back plates although sounds easy gets very tiring after doing so in the middle of job lol. Hope this helps! Any other questions feel free to ask away!! Take care!👍👍✊

      @PapaSmurf918Detail  4 роки тому +1

@@davidmiller4578 Not a problem man! So most commonly people switch for the smaller footprint of the backplate. It isolates the power to a smaller area and will help put the power to the paint easier. It's also a little easier to get into certain spots with a smaller pad. 6" back plate would be ok for instance like a Van.. big flat panels where you could cover more surface area. Hope that helps.

Id say for the money and size and all that. Id go with torq. I know CG isnt the best company but Torq is an absolutely amazing machine man. I have a 10fx n that thing is built to last. U can change n grease things easily. The digital display, eh, i havnt had an issue with it. Its quiet n doesnt vibrate at all to me. I know if i used a rupes or flex id say man this is better, but small variants in vibration do not make a 250 dollar difference to me at all.
It turns on everytime i go to use it.
However if i had that machine. Id clean it up. Order a new one, pack that one into the new box. N send it back n get my money for the fist one. If u still want that.
My opinion when u put more into how something looks n it doesnt function properly ur a crappy company. Like fiat for instance. Yeah a Ram looks good. Here in pa they rust in 2 or 3 years, unacceptable.
