My t4 was chucking out loads of blue smoke, thought it could be the turbo so changed it, what a ball ache it is to change. Turns out the turbo was fine but needed a complete engine rebuild. I got the new turbo from autodoc for 300quid so not to expensive
I’m the other way round, I done the engine rebuild now I need a turbo 🤣 I did look on autodoc, however I might get a cheap eBay job for now, then get my one reconditioned, or even go hybrid 🤩
I still have my old turbo if you wanted to try it, might cure it. If it works great if not send me it back 🤷♂️ mines an ajt engine not sure if the trbos are different
Don't give up hope mate, if you can fix a sliding door you can fix a turbo as the British army advert would say 🤣 but best of luck on getting it sorted 👍

Yep, midland turbos, I’ve used them a fair few times for work vans, it’s much better getting your genuine turbo rebuilt 👍

I bought another turbo cartridge for mine. Pretty cheap and easy to fit 🙂

@TwiggsT4 mine was removed from the van as I was doing a tdi conversion at the time. Probably best to remove the unit to fit the cartridge. Hardest part was getting those stupid exhaust clamps back on. Gutted for you bud. Hope you get it sorted for the shows 👍
Yes those exhaust clamps are not fun and time consuming even when you have the tool for it 😂 cheers buddy hopefully I’ll make them 🤞 👍

Run it with the pipes off you will see the oil pissing out if its gone and usually plumes of smoke out the exhaust
That engine sounds like a valve issue either camshaft follower or a bit of that turbine is gone into the intake and gotten under a valve seat
Take off the egr off the manifold and run it have a listen in the intake manifold if its popping have a couple big heavy rags like old jeans or a plan to block the manifold if it goes run away and a helper to start the van and shit it off
It would probably be easier take the head and turbo off instead of trying to get in at the turbo
Yeah loads of smoke out of exhaust, and a lot of play in the turbo. The noise in the engine is the vacuum pump, when I pump the brakes the knocking goes away, I also thought that it was the cam, as it is slightly worn. I got the turbo off yesterday, didnt take too long. Need to either change the core or get it re manufactured somewhere. I took the intake off and then the turbo and manifold and then split the turbo on the bench. Worst part was removing the exhaust clamps 🤦♂️
@@TwiggsT4 ah the exhaust clamps you need to make 2 wedges it's pretty easy once you get the first one in pull the pipe to the other side and slip in the wedge they practically fall off

Have you a mount problem aswell the sound it makes switching it off and starting
Watch the engine when it's switched off you should find it easy enough
That new place your working you doing them a good service showing the good work you do it's a great way of drumming up business
@@TwiggsT4 the vacuum pump has a few valves inside the lid if you take it off you will find a broken one just note the orientation of the valve they look like button's and are one way valves so need to go back in the right direction
I looked at a rebuild kit, but might just get a new pump for now then recondition my old pump later. I’ve nearly got enough bolt on hardware to build my other engine 😂

I think prolonged driving at high speed on boost 🤷♂️ I always allow the turbo to cool down when I stop driving, maybe it’s just old and worn
My Mk5 golf got a oil leak need to jack it up as it's bk of engine lol been like it 6 months bloody vag life lol 😂
Ps check oil cooler housing as gasket fails

cant u just fit new turbo .i ordered one once only about 200£ .ive got spare one but need myself off low miles engine 107k got engine too down garden
did u recon engine twiggs recently ?was all on youtube wasnt it?
Yes recon the engine not the turbo unfortunately, I had my suspicions at the time
