I'm glad to see that someone else takes the time to do this and clean the entire injector, and demonstrated that it's not as complicated and costly as some customers are made to believe.
It depends on how hard it is to remove the injectors. My mazda cx7 requires the intercooler, intake tubing, throttle body, coolant lines, power steering pump, intake, and multiple brackets to be removed before getting to the fuel rail and injectors. I would charge upwards of $600 to do this for a customer.

Excellent and a sample procedure for cleaning but a question to be raised since we are concerned only about the spraying of injectors, so why we can not only remove the injectors from the engine head and start the engine and on the same time we keep the injectors in a plastic container to avoid any gas leaks on engine.
I need to do this! I was thinking about buying a set of new injectors but all I may have to do is this.

Very informative. Thanks. I have 24 year old injectors and the O rings and rubber are quite hard. I would be hard pressed to reuse them. I bought a rebuild kit on EBay for under 20 bucks.

a small 9 volt battery does not have enough amps to do any harm. Same as a Tesla coil can generate 10,000 volts, but do not do much more than tickle you...not enough amps.

There are injector rebuild kits that cost $10-20 dollars, they include caps, filter baskets and o rings. It really is a must to change these out after cleaning your injectors. A ohm test would also be advised.
plus you can get one of those ebay kits to help spray clean it for like $8 ... I can't image going through the trouble to take the injectors out and not change the o-rings/ filters

I did use b-12 carb cleaner though since i had some laying around - my injectors are soo much cleaner video was super easy to follow and your tapered electrical tape method...what?!?!? - fantastic!!

Could you use fuel and let it sit in fuel for a little? that i believe would clean it up very well. it cleans valves super easily instead of walnut blasting. just absorb with paper towels and blow the fuel fumes out of it once soaked.

The only question I have is: would the 9V battery sufficient enough to energize the solenoid? I don't want to use 12V as it might burn the coil.

Compliments on a very good hands-on video! In normal operation, Injectors are supplied 12V through a 6 Ohm current limiting Resistor which drops the actual V applied to Injector to 3V, so applying non-current-limited battery power scared me a bit at first, but I expect the V of such a small 9V Batt, connected to a near-short (of 1.3Ohms Injector R), will collapse the V to something non-damaging to the Injector (I realize it is only applied for a fairly limited time, but you should emphasize this also)...have you measured what V it collapses to? The only thing I might add is to check for an even spray pattern when doing the pressurized flush...if it is not even around the pintle orifice, a longer soak or additional flushing is called for until pattern is even...this is pretty important and the goal of the whole process! I also like the idea of storage-lubing the injectors after the cleaning process. Cheers
Edit: From a safety standpoint, it is also VERY IMPORTANT to emphasize the use of (nonflammable tetrachloroethene) "Brake Cleaner", and NOT highly flammable carb cleaner for the flushing operation...atomized highly flammable carb cleaner could easily be ignited by the spark when disconnecting leads from the inductive Injector. Don't wind up like Jay Leno! Work Safely!

Great, simple procedure! However, I have to agree that brake cleaner isn't the solvent to use for this application as it will dissolve rubber o-rings and plastic parts, while carb cleaner won't.
This is a decent start. Reverse flushing works better, and while you are doing all this, you should replace the microfilters, it's quick and easy, and backflushing assures you get any potential debris out.
To reverse flush: use a small piece of fuel hose that fits the front of the injector tightly, put a small hole in the hose to force your can of cleaner straw into, and block the back of the hose... PULSE the power to the injector, instead of leaving it on. move movement= more chance to knock crap free.

Thanks for including the replacement of the filters - any attempt to clean the injector in the "forward" direction only is going to leave the dirt in the filter!
The filters are ridiculously cheap, by the way - I just got a set of eight for less than £5.

I used the method of cleaning all 4 at once running my car on carb cleaner for 4 straight mins...car seems to run very smooth now...I also changed plugs and coils.
I am pretty sure carb cleaner is strong enough to remove dirt etc from injectors ...now if screens have large solids clogging that may be an issue since many injectors screens can not be removed...the key is routinely cleaning and adding solution to your tank to keep injectors spraying correctly imo..

Don't forget to HAVE the basket filter installed when cleaning the injectors. Otherwise you will surely get debris inside from the rubber hoses used.

greetings, good work. I have a marine engine. A lot of gasoline is coming to the injectors, but I think it is not going to the spark plugs, because they are dry. Also, when I press the starter, it throws oily gasoline from the exhaust. The injectors were tested and found to be sound. What do you think could be the reason? I wish you a good day.
Very nicely done video. I hope this works on my 6.9 diesel injectors on my 1985 ford.
I intend to take the nozzles off the injectors and clean the pin inside the nozzle and the interior of the nozzle and also clean the spray pattern holes to make sure all passages are clean.
Any tips from anyone that has cleaned their injectors on a 6.9 diesel would be appreciated.
I don't want to have to buy re-manufactured injectors.
I'm also doing a rebuild return line kit and putting in new glow plugs.

Great vid. I also recommend backflushing the injectors as well while you have them off and are doing this to be sure you get as thorough a clean as you can. Berrymans B12 is the strongest carb cleaner on the market and the best for removing varnish and built up contaminants on any fuel related part. I am not sure why you would use brake cleaner when Carb cleaner does a much better job. Great idea though with making a seal with the electrical tape. You will likely have to replace the tape several times as you are cleaning multiple injectors though as the carb cleaner starts to melt it and it gets mushy. Is it safe to have them with constant power like that ? The normal duty cycle would be very short bursts
As preventative maintenance, how often should injectors be cleaned like this? Would you recommend a mileage interval-say, every 50K miles? or? What's the general consensus?

I would treat the O rings with a rubber rejuvinator , synthetic, non petroleum grease that won't react with the rubber or at least a silicone spray so that they don't dry out although you may want to replace them to be sure when re- installing them in the future.
A good carb cleaner that you can find in a motorcycle shop or automotive speed shop would be my choice & a good soak in Marvel Mystery oil.

what about dielectric grease? yes or no. it's silicone.permatex brand.
@@charlesdowns1691 I would say yes rather than dry reassembly. Fix it Angel uses a jar of silicone paste with a brush in the cap for ease of reassembly for many rubber components & fittings such as vacuum lines & injectors too.
Less chance of the O ring rolling or being pushed out of it's groove seating properly. Silicone will not react with the rubber/ neoprene & is heat resistant.
I'd keep the brake cleaner away from rubber, plastic components The simple green / spray nine should not be a problem since it's non chemical based , same with marvel mystery oil.
@@pedrorojascervantes3928 I understand silicone going through an engine will mess up the oxygen sensor. I'm not positive about this but it's just something I picked up in dealing with emissions.
What kind of brush did you suggest for cleaning, I'm mean wire, brass, soft paint like bristle ? I could mention a couple of others, but I'm sure these will work.

I use a pipe, 2 metal end caps with a ball valve with a hose coming off of one end to connect to the injector and the other end has a air hose connector, I load the pipe with cleaner and connect a air compressor to charge the pipe with 40 psi of pressure, and then I use a 12 volt battery set up with a finger switch to pulse the injectors, this has become an even more important task if you have a car you leave in storage for long durations that uses the ethanol blended fuels because it separates and cause a greenish sludge build up on the screens and filters, ethanol is garbage.

you can take the screen filters out with a self tapping screw or something like that, if youre careful you can reuse them but its easier to rip them out if you can source new ones, but why bother if theyre not blocked with deposit

I understand what you did with the Honda injector but can you do the same thing with the Toyota Camry injector that's what I have and like you said you can't remove the screen can you still do the same routine without removing the screen?

excellent instructional video. im having a poor acceleration issue on a 01 accord lx 2.3 L w/ a uleb/vtec eng. it has poor maintenance by the owner. i did an oil ch/ trany svc, r/r cat, s plugs, ht cables, ig coil (leaks eng oil inside dist baddly) and rotor; rear vacuum feeded mtr mt & top ft side mt have been changed but it still have weak power and refuses to speed up. its better than before after i'd serviced but is weak. i checked syst w/ following dtcs: p0420 catalyst system efficiency below treshold bank 1; p0700 transmission control system malfunction indicator lamp request; p1456 evaporative emission control sytem leak; p1739 3rd clutch transmission fluid pressure switch failure. the honda dlr wants more than $170 for both trany oil pressure switches (28600-RCL-004 and 28610-RKE-004) which i havent r/r yet. i just did the trany oil ch svc just to check responsiveness of vehicle. any how, today im doing a compression test, measure injector resistance and checking main relay for desoldering sections and map, tps & 02 sensors as well. i had svced a 94 civic with no respinsive map snsr and i did got me 1/2 dozen from junk yard and there was no responsiveness from ecu. i read on a forum that you could do your own wiring harness to it but i preffer to check ecu first, so i disconected primary 02 snsr & batt first then ecu from harness; locate & open ecu under ps foot area: no strange odors, no burnt parts, everything looked great. put on new (used) map snsr, new ngk s plugs and the car started like nothing ever hapenned to it. i went around the block w/ it and no problem on any speeds. in theory, burned software from ecu became frozen after many yrs of use and while it connects to harness/ sensors it wont be able to process info any more and it just goes into coma lol. but i will try your simple idea on the inj cleaning process today in the 01 lx. thanks for your time bro
It worked brilliant thank you so.much couldn't believe how much contamination was in the injector the hot wire I got off a wreck and connected it to a 12v battery then fed some fuel with a hose in and it sprayed out a steady flow the old lil filters were stuffed

Thank you for this! For some reason when I am at the stage of using the compressed carb cleaner to spray through the injector it won’t pass through, only sputter back out the same end it is going in. I can hear the injector “open” but it still won’t travel through. Any ideas?

Just put new ones in and let the pros rebuild your used ones (cores).

Does electrical polarity matter on the injector when connecting the battery to activate it?
Not at all. Since the injector is a solenoid, it will open when you apply voltage, regardless of polarity.

I was wondering if you were to place this fuel injector and a small container of seafoam and connect the wires to where they're not getting wet. Would it flush being submerged? Or does it have to have a force behind it to blow through? Basically submerging this would have it coming out one in and going in the other and just flushing it. Would that work?

Careful about shorting the battery when soaking the leads in liquid. If it gets to hot it could pop.
I actually hooked 2 nine volt batteries together once and threw them in the yard. Nutn happened. Positive to negative and vice versa

Can I use Greased Lightning instead of spray nine? That's one of my favorite degreasers :)
It's not grease you are getting rid of, its carbon, or fuel burn off build up, so find a liquid that breaks that down, maybe even an acid, just watch out for rubber damage of course. Good luck! Let us know if you had any luck.
1:39 I did that tothe injectors on my 2007 honda pilot and it tore the top of the filter off and left the filter inside, every time, no matter how delicate I was.

Great job at simplifying this task.
By accident I discovered my old battery charger at 6 volts would buzz the injector open and closed at 60 Hz. Carb cleaner improved the spray pattern in about 10 seconds flowing.
Great work and tutorial 👍 ...just one question.. the ATF if applied and sits in the Injector. Can it just be reinstalled? No need to apply brake cleaner again before Install?
Absolutely. Its’s not necessary to break clean the injector before you install it. Once the fuel system is pressurized, it’ll wash away the oil one you start cranking the engine.

Use injector clean, pre soak over night, and never ever use electric tape. Always check the ohm resistance and replace all o rings and gaskets oem. Do it right do it once.
Hi, do you mind sharing what injector cleaner you recommend? All I can find is the fuel additive injector cleaners, unless that is what you meant.
thanks I'll do the try doing the flushing on these injectors they are longer than the ones you have on the video do I just flush I'm the same way I need to run a hot wire to them and spray some carburetor cleaner or break cleaner spray thanks again, mine's a BMW 535i xDrive 2009

What do you mean you can't get the filter out of the Honda injector? you lock a large, stubby screw int oa vice, screw the injector so the screw grabs it and pull, out the filter comes.

You can pop the filter out of the Toyota. #10 screw in a vise. Screw it in the brass collar and twist to secure then wiggle out.
How do you clean the Toyota Camry if you said you can't take the filter off?

It's best to use electrical type cleaner that leaves no residue behind and also a switch as some injectors don't like to be permanently open

The cables you can get at any electronics or hobby store. As for the clear, go to your local hardware store and ask for purple power, spray nine, or simple green.

That was transmission fluid. You can also use engine oil.
For those not in USA... what exactly is Spray 9 so we can find a local equivalent - just a generic degreaser?
can you tell me what type of leads. 1st is what type cleaner? i think second is brake cleaner 3th is ATF right?

This is simple enough without any high-pressured DIY tool. Also use 12 to 20 fluid ounces (1 ounce per gallon of gas) per tank of gas fill-up of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaning additive. That should also clean things up a bit, if you don't want to take out the injectors. But manually cleaning is best.
use a pencil eraser; drill a hole just big enough to force a lubed spray tube thru, then stick eraser partially into the injector hole
