That happens to me, but with Bonewheels. I really hate those guys. Just imagine how bad it would be that they had the idea to improve it. Like, that they make it all blindated except a weak point , made them even faster or gave them the ability to launch fire from a dangerous range. But Fromsoftware would never do that 💖
@Leo-wu6qd They were bad enough when they just had big gross "bug eyes" (yes I know their actual eyes are tiny). But big gross humanoid Godwyn eyes is so nasty.
You know I have wondered whether the basilisk statues are a cross reference to Tolkien's book Lord of The Rings: Return of the King - specifically the evil gargoyle statues in Cirith Ungol whose gaze subdues one's will to move let alone live...
Either that or godwyn’s infection is so boundless that he was even able to corrupt the presence of the divine beast I don’t really know how that would work but godwyn can be crazy like that
Remember death knights are standing just next to godwyn in catacombs in the dlc. This is more like the divine lion beast was either being infected by the basilisk that are in the area of the fight or it managed to learn deathblight spells, from that the reason why they fight aside the lion.
Not really, we see Godwyn's influence in some catacombs in the lands of shadow, also the Death Knights. Is more like the Dancing Lion was infected/influenced by Godwyn's power/aspect of death. The Lands of Shadow seem to have maintain contact with the Lands Between for sometime.
With this question it also brings attention to the "Eclipsed Shotel" you get from Castle Sol (also meaning "Sun" in Latin), which inflicts death blight in use
If you look at their eyes it appears to be an eclipsed sun drained of color. I wonder if there is an item fitting that description... Even more so, with these statues that predate Godwyn, some other past phenomenon must've been basilisk origin.
Finding out that you can just toss a black-flame ball at the floating eyes and then wait a couple second for them to "die" from the burn damage made that dungeon a lot easier.
In Elden Ring, the basilisk looks distinctly more aquatic than in previous titles. The frilled back, the flattened tail (not unlike a beaver's), and slightly webbed feet sells the idea of the basilisks being found in shallow water. Make of this observation what you will.
DevTeam: Hmm, what's something fun that everyone like that we can center a catacomb dungeon around? Miyazaki: Basilisk. DevTeam: Oh but sir, literally everyone hates the basilisks and deathblight, even us. Miyazaki: Line of sight deathblight. DevTeam: Yes sir...
Maybe the statues were made by the Death Knights and portrayed as somewhat angelic because the basilisks almost certainly spawn from Godwyn's corpse so his Knights likely see them as his holy children or something
To anyone who hates those things, these are EZ af to disable. Might work with something else but I always use the Black Knife ranged attack. It disables them completely.
I always will love these guys for some reason but Elden Ring is their best deisgn I think. Also I never understood why they had fake eyes and why also a dungeon is devoted to them?
Alright so IF they are essentially meant to be the imp version of the basilisks, could that possibly mean that the deathblight plague can even infect stone constructs?
It's interesting how Basalisks have a pair of tiny eyes beneath those giant eyeballs of theirs. I have a fan theory that the giant eyes aren't really eyes at all but eyeball-shaped glands/sacs that produce the death blight chemical. Perhaps they look like eyeballs in order to entice larger predators like those monstrous birds of caelid to try and peck at them (predatory birds tend to go for the eyes first after all) and end up getting a beakful of death blight, discouraging them to attack further. Sort of like how some caterpillars have long hairs or growths that snap off to prevent birds from grabbing them properly.
Well, you also gotta consider that this was part of their design since DS1. In any case, i believe in the past a similar theory was presented; that the superior set of eyes were there to appear bigger, and that they're actually the poison sacs.
@@Omnywrench It's not a theory, that's pretty much just the design of them in the Dark Souls games and Elden Ring The "giant eyes" aren't real, they're just bulbs on the top of the head that are likely the organs producing the smoke they exhale The "tiny eyes" are just in fact their real eyes, this is further shown in Elden Ring if you encounter a Basilisk that's carrying extra runes, the glowing eye effect is not on the giant bulbs but their real small eyes

Scorpion River Catacombs. Its in the dlc and you need to run all the way around lower rauh past the big red horned bear boss following the river to get to it. Its also where to get the lizard greatsword off the imps there.
The Basilisk Eyes have the internal name "Jagan," which means "Evil Eye" in Japanese

It isnt proof of that at all. He probably got infected like crabs do with their Godwyn faces.

Getting death-blighted is so metal honestly
How can we not have a basilisk summon?!
(It would probably be useless but it would be nice to see an animal like that getting beaten up without us 😅)
It would be almost useless as deathblight only effects things with the tarnished model.
