This is so lousy played...... a shame to use Bonzo's Name by playing such a horrable Version of this Zep Milestone...... no groove.....no flow......no no no........
Things kinda fell apart at the end for sure. Never been impressed with stick twirlers.
What the F is up with the 22 thumbs down?!!! This guy is a living legend and was an inspiration for John Bonham! If his improvises, who cares! And, anybody who doesn't have some appreciation for Carmine Appice clearly does not know much about drumming or rock history.
100% correct. Haters only hate.
Thank You for your recognition of a legend and having Carmines back..
He sounded horrible on this. Not only did he play beats that didn't work for the song, he was out of time a lot and missed a few beats!
These little idiots have no clue
He's all over the place because he just can't stop showing off. He's a brilliant drummer but this-at his level- lets him down. So before the venom comes my way I acknowledge his talent but think he's had much better days at the office. Peace.@@Strimbles
This was a train wreck.
Wow. Just officially gave out my first thumbs down on UA-cam. Absolutely murdered the song just cause he wanted to do his little stick flips and wack off with meaningless drum fills. That’s how NOT to pay tribute to one of the greatest drummers of all time.
Looks like Carmine playing like he doesn't take the gig seriously. just sayn
The fans love Carmine almost as much as Carmine loves Carmine.
Man I spit my drink out 🤣 Never a truer statement 👍
Wow, that’s ambitious of them
@@averyetvspecial1487 😆
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAJA
@Fist Bump Carmine’s daily self-affirmation: I’m good enough, I drum enough, and doggonnit, John Bonham loved me!
Really rushed...they just were not tight enough.. Carmine very disconnected
He didn't serve the song by dropping into the pocket and groove that is Black Dog. He was more about the one lick he kept doing and looking around seeing the reactions people had as he did it. Bonham would make eye contact because of a mutual feel moment. And yes, Carmine rushed it hard. I can see where as drummers get older and maybe insecure because they're question of relevance they may over do it but whatever. He's done his thing. pretty honarable just to be asked to do such an event. I saw him at a clinic at music land in Bel Air MD in like mid-late 80's, it was cool, but I was turned off when he ragged on Vinnie his brother who I feel has a much more original identifiable style. Fuck it, so many drummers are dicks and have little good to say about other drummers. I think one is born to be a true natural feel player that can move or make another person move to a beat or feel.
Carmine and Bonzo-both great power drummers.
Cant count on how many time Carmine fucked up!!! lol
Carmine, is a great dummer being very skilful and technical as what we see. However, this is a classic real life demo of over cooking the original song to the point of it being terribly bad to listen to. It’s like a drum solo and the ‘black dog’ song is just filling in the gaps.
the " Black Dog " song is a rip off off " Oh Well "
FTDy
LOL, totally fucked it up all to hell.
I need Advil that was so painful ....
I met Carmine back in the mid ‘80’s, real cool cat, he was doing a drum clinic in Hamilton,Ontario Canada, just after he left Ozzy’s band and formed King Kobra. He looks like he hasn’t changed much at all, still a hard-hitting power drummer. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Carmine Appice is AWESOME!!
Poznałem go
凄いドラマーなんだろうけど、フレーズなどにあまりセンスを感じないんだよなぁ。
コージーパウエルのフィルインをまるパクリしたこともあったけな。
Carmine toured in 1969 with Led Zepplin. Zep was the opening act for Vanilla Fudge that lasted 2 weeks i saw that show in Albuquerque. Sitll remember pretty much the whole thing. That's why i didnt do drug's nor smoke weed. Im 67 years old n i remember the whole show.
I saw Zep warm up for them in Baltimore. Needless to say, I was totally blown away by Led Zep!
Vinnie is a way better drummer and doesn't show off
He'll never be john Bonham, hes trying to hard aswell
Most overrated drummer in history!!
Oh dear. (Know what I mean?)
Best part was Carmine warning up. Rest was rubbish.
Carmine's a great drummer but he's got one problem. He always thinks he's the show.
How do I love me?
Let me count the ways?
Saw him in 1970
Was better back then.
That's your problem . He is the show !
@@paintingholidayitaly 1 out of a thousand agree with me ,haha ,Your a discerning man . That band was horrible and what the heck was that plunky weird bass sound? That was the wrong bass for a zep tune.Plunk.plunk.plunkety.ugh.Take care due and be good.
He's just having fun bro.
So did Buddy Rich.
This was an abortion on stage. Carmine is just so off time and the singer is literally probably damaging his vocal chords trying to sing something he can't.
He’s trying to solo over a song he can’t even sync with tempo wise. That’s a recipe for 💩
I totally agree. This was awful
It's that bassist and the whole band that's out of time ,you are tone deaf ,good grief.
Robert Plant always sang the vocals lower in this song Live. I don’t get why this dude had to hit those high notes of the recording. The guy was obviously killing himself trying to do it, noticeably ruining his vocals as the song went on
great drummer, but you can tell he never actually played this, and thought he could skate threw it after hearing it a thousand times, terrible job..
This was my first impression of Carmine. He really is a great drummer and an innovator but I really wish this wasn’t how I first heard about him.
Sounds pretty shitty if you ask me.sounds like something you would hear coming out of someone's garage
Bonham makes the music sound easy. Carmine just proved how difficult it really is..
What I’m saying is, Bonham’s expression is fluid that he makes what he’s doing sound easy.. Until one tries to emulate it. But, yeah, you are hitting the nail on the head about how difficult his job really was.
@@paintingholidayitaly what I’m saying is Bonham’s playing was so fluid that he made it sound easy. Until we try to emulate it
@@jamiefoster1998 really true
What? the whole comment section is filled with deaf people or what? This band is not even a B LEVEL band. It's that crappy band .Good grief ,has America gone mad?
@@markdemell3717 of course we know that.. in this particular situation Carmine was blowing the parts and it wasn’t the band throwing him off. It’s a Bohnam Birthday Bash so of course we’re critiquing the drummer the most. If it was a Robert Plant, Jimmy Paige, or John Paul Jones birthday Bash, of course people would be goin crazy over the chowder they were playing..
But, dude, I have no argument against your point..
No matter who was on drums that was a disgrace to Led Zeppelin and John Bonham
What a shitty performance shame on them for trying to play a legendary song this is horrible john bonham is pissed in his grave Wow is all I can say......
If anybody ever wants to know who the better drummer was (between Bonzo and Carmine), just watch this video. #bonzoforlife
No, go watch old clips of both drummers at their peak and then try to call it.
@@scottroberts7103 sure but Bonham would still win. Love Carmine but he’s not Bonzo.
Bonzo,of course.
The singer is awful.
As the saying goes, opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.
Comparing Bonzo and Carmine are like comparing Chevs and Fords
This is what happens when you haven't rehearsed and your trying too hard to cover that up
With Tom Savini on drums and Eric Melvin from NoFX on the Les Paul guitar...
+l'Homme d'Après Demain
Haha Savini. He looks just like him I thought I was the only one who knew who Tom is. Lol
I thought the very same thing, too! Great seeing a Savini reference at random. Bizarrro!
😂😂oh shit Savini you fuckin nailed it dude. Hell it might as well been cause that was a fuckin horror show.
John Bonham Told Carmine Appice he got the triplets Pattern from a Song he heard by him & made it his Signature piece as you can hear on Good Times Bad Times. Awesome Drumming on this! 🤗🤗🥁🥁🥁🥁💖💖
Mow THATS so,etching to brag about! Nikki Sixx needs to shut his trap. Calling Carmine a “washed up drummer” is a low blow.
I vote for Bobby Rondinelli as their next drummer .
Damn New Yorkers. Alway got something to prove :). This is not a tribute rather an attempt at one upsmanship that failed miserably
Appice must have taken lessons from Phil Collins on how to cover Zeppelin tunes.Train Kept a Stoppin
FYI Phil Collins was almost Led Zeppelins choice on drums before Bonham. #FACT
Matt Montalto Is that true? Never heard that before.
@@ickysticky3672 lmao what no, phil is younger and they never knew each other lol, i think by apologies ahead of time if it's a joke and i don't get it
Or heart
Ok ,this whole comment section is filled with absolute deaf people !!! Not one person realizes how shitty that band is or what? The speedy bassist was of on a solo, hey look at me ,i'm the plunky bassist ,playing the wrong bass for a zeppelin song. The singer had a rough larynx or what ever and the guitar player was ,fast ,slow, fast ,medium ,slow, fast ,ugh.Carmine comes out and boom, boom, flip ,flip, crash ,flam ,flam .Then the band goes way off on his count .today's generation are just dumber than ever ,god forgive them for they know not what they do ,their phones tell them every thing to do ,the devils cellular leash .Enjoy your 5G DNA manipulator.Sad ,real sad .
I think the commentary here is a bit hyper-critical. This wasn’t that bad. Dude has chops. So it was a little loose in places? So what. That’s live rock n roll. Lighten up.
The whole world is a critic.
AGREED
Nah he got paid for this. He is supposed to be a professional, and it sounds like trash.
I agree, people are exaggerating
What the hell big time musicians who butcher the song?
What an embarrassment!
I played better when I first learned black dog when I was 13 years old
Zeppelin is a standard for beginning drummers
Carmine was winging the whole thing
He should have sat down and played with the record a few times
That guy is killing himself trying to make those high Plant's notes!!!!
Plant killing himself also! On live shows, he'd never went as high, as he did on studio recordring.
Yeah, Robert plant Live wasn't any better himself.
Robert could nail his shit the first 2 years ,even Live at Royal Albert hall he nailed it, the highest point of his career.
After , he just stayed low key and got weaker and weaker.
WITH ANY LUCK MAYBE HE WILL !!!!!!!!
Plant doesn't hit those notes in his live performances either.
@@pjsolarz NEITHER DO YOU !!!!!!!!
My god, man, Carmine is clueless on how to play this song.
Also, to the singer. Those vocals are hard as hell. No reason to kill yourself on the high vocal everytime it comes around.
The singer is hurting my ears!!!!
Why the singer felt the need to hit those constant high notes is beyond me. That shit was obviously hurting! He could have lowered it down like Robert Plant did in the Live versions of the song. Oh, and Carmine is so sloppy here.
The band were like " What the fuck is he doing?" at the beginning with that shitter of a solo. Then he goes on to decimate the whole song, and the band has to constantly time shift. The problem with Carmine is, he listens to himself and is so consumed with how HE comes across that he forgets about the band. As far as he is concerned the band can take a hyke. He was so lucky to even be selected for Blue Murder.
i love him always did .... but in this clip he's a pure, grade AA, garden variety basket case
the singer is really struggling to hit the high notes!!!!
When Phil Collins played with "The Musical Box" in Geneve after 35 years, he needed to rehearse for some hours. Carmine obviously did not prepare for that Song.
Guarantee his brother Vinnie would have nailed it..
I think Carmine was on his own mental gig! He didn't care about the band performance.
I got respect for his music career and all but that doesn't take away the fact that he just murder the song (and not in a good way).
!!! YOUR Comment reeks of Cheek...!
This is really terrible. The fact that he calls himself the best drummer ever together with Bonham makes it even worse.
This kind of events just reminds me how Great was Zeppelin 's sound.. With no many people on the stage 😂😂
The singer has Robert plants hand gestures, that's about it
I love Carmine, but he fucked this song up bad....he took away the rough rock sound and made it too hoppy. Maybe that's just my opinion...
First time I've ever heard/seen the "legendary" Carmine Appice. Not any time soon again after this!!
I love Carmine too, and I saw him playing amazing, but here..... All we have a bad day.... ;-)
Carmine do your homework...your ego only takes you so far...
ZEP WOULD LAUGH THESE GUYS RIGHT OFF THE STAGE AND BOHNAM , WELL , Y'ALL ALREADY KNOW WHAT HE'D DO !!!!!!
Lord have mercy...cringeworthy to say the least🙉
Carmine ,s cruisin !!! If the band played a full set ,this bloke would go right off!!A master!!
I still don't know what I just watched....sos
What a way to ruin a great drum track!!
Imagine being more famous for your name, than for your playing??? Such is the case for many lucky so-called musicians!!!
All icing, no cake!
very well..............................................
Met CARMINE in ‘81’ we had a drum off competition at the club I worked at & him Joey Kramer(Aerosmith) Bruce Krump(Molly Hatchett) & Brian Downey(Thin Lizzy) we’re there just to judge & JAM. WOW!!, Carmine was INCREDIBLE!!!! the other guys were to OF COURSE. This performance by Carmine was NOT AT ALL up to his standards 👎🥴😒
Carmine is also pushing 80 yrs.old. Give him a break. He's played with more famous and not so famous bands that you can't remember all of them. He is still a GOD.
This song is all about TIMING.. unfortunately Carmine didn’t get the “memo”...
He was trying to be flashy ... :-/
Ya. Trying to do a little too much.. Too bad.
Carmine IS when he wants to be both flashy AND technical, consummate musician esp in his chosen music genres but also beyond
poop
This is a very clunky interpretation. I think either Appice came in unprepared or Bonham’s drumming in this song is a bit over his head.
the Appice brothers are awesome drummers
..and so different from each other
Summary: overplayed, repetetive fills, slightly faster tempo, not on time, struggling vocalist and lastly a shit performance. Its very easy to play. Its just a basic rock groove. The most important thing to do is be on time and stay locked with the rest of the band. This drumming "legend" cant do a good tribute to a drummer that he inspired. What a shameful performance.
Those stick tricks though.. he’s been focusing on that lately
It’s actually not simple at all lol not defending his shit ass performance but the beat is flipped and Bonham is playing against JPJ and JP. It’s amazing. Once you get the hang of it it’s fine but NOT a song to try on the fly lmaoo
Wasn't he Rod Stewarts drummer?
Yes
what the hell they are doing.....poor guys this is not about zeppelin , not about rock.......this is about EGO . poor guys
What l see is a drummer completely full of himself... Yes Carmine is one of the greats but still has not learned the word humble. l watch gentleman like lan Paice, Carl Palmer etc who want to give back to the profession that has gave them so much.
When l watch Carmine in this video, my personal opinion he was so busy showing off he totally lost the feel Bonham had in this song. To me the thing that made Bonham so unique was not what not only what he did do but what he didn`t do...
+Paul Gingerich Congrats - never expected a post like your´s on YT. But I fear 99% won´t understand what you had to say.
+anonymusum Uh not that difficult to comprehend
+Paul Gingerich Carmine is SUPER Humble. In real-life, he's really nice.
+Paul Gingerich
Dude agreed on everything except that one you said he's a great drummer but i respect it :-)
Thats about the size of it ... he's as grounded & un into himself as they come..& he is/was a great drummer...& i really do think people should bow & take a knee before entering that alter.
I hate when a bass player headbanger megadeth lover play song's of the 60's or 70's.
Them , s big shoe,s to fill , one song does not make a legend , John Bonham was the hardest hitting drummer of His time and will be forever in My book.
Jason Bonham is damn close
Terrible. I hope no one paid to be there
who are these fine musicians and who is this technical master on drums? these kids rock!
I really prefer Zep"s version. i mean really prefer
Let's get together to honor one of the greats.....and totally half-ass it!
His brother Vinnie is one of the best though! Listen to the Dio album, "Holy Diver" now that's rock drumming. Wow this does suck ass! Lol😄
Utah Kid.......
Wow this is fuckin terrible
Shit, John Bohnam is rolling around in his grave that this performance even exists.
Carmine was Bonham principal influence
@@mixirica87 at least according to Carmine anyways...
Patrick YOU Do NOT Know What the late great Bonham IS Doing...!
His jam, although fun, wasn't appropriate for the event/audience.
Absolutely shithouse 😂
😂
You're one to talk 👄 😂
The drummer is dramatic here... How is the respect for Bonzo and for this song??? :(
listen to the riff at 5:40 from CARMINE! Pretty cool!
Euhhh do they think they can play Led Zep......NOOO FOR SHURE....
I give him an A+ for playing as badly as he can.
A for courage, short bus for quality
Great drummer - and he would tell you exactly that before the thought even entered your mind. His arrogance overshadows his skill.
Awful!!! Thats the problem when your a legend in your own mind!!! Look at me!! Look at me! Is that brian tichey on the guitar??
Close your eyes and it sounds like a bunch of confused 14 year olds playing with other people for the first time. For someone who never misses the opportunity to say he taught Bonham everything he knew, he must have glossed over that section about "Timing". This is what it sounds like when you think you're "too good to have to practice"
Him saying he taught Bonham is misrepresented statement. He helped Bonham with gear and some influence but its Bonham lol. Same shit like when Baker ragged on Bonham (Baker was wrong btw like Rich was). Tbh the public came after Baker first. Too many people on here comparing drummers when it’s art.
the next rev? YOU read like a confused gender gender
Yeah Carmine sure missing alot of shit Bro to be talking like you are lately ...that'd actually why i.looked this up ...and just like I thought Bro...u didn't show Bonzo shit ...
Holy well intentioned
car crash Batman!
Note to self…
“Maybe I should’ve
rehearsed those
verse segue parts
a little bit more”
Not to mention,
repetitively leaving
the band out to dry
during that
“badly improv-ed” ending.
Yikes!
At 5:56 it seems me and my friends in the garage 1992 😂😂😂
Just bloody awful!!! Carmine Appice acts like he's God's gift to the world!!!!!!
There's a video on youtube where he says he "taught Bonham" how to play, or some shit LOL
Bob Rock on vocals everybody!
Good one
Forget about it Carmine!...hey!..👍..where's the Fonze!...
Tee rash. (Trash)
Well... That's a shame. Talented guy with few prospects slipping away.
I have a lot of respect for Carmine Appice, but this was horrible.
I love Brian Tichy! He's solid and has a great groove.
Bass with a pick, tempo all over, what a hot mess.
pdromero09 I'm sure Carmine would agree
He played his part well
After all the infuence he has lsid down in Rock,
He can play however he pleases as far as i am concerned.
He is not 100% focused right here, just havin fun
Carmi e is a master and people respect. Oh yes!
JON HEISMAN and Billy Cobham are 500 times better!
Wow, Carmine destroyed the song. What a mess.
The other musicians were trying to clue him in like he was an amateur
Pretty sad
I bet they found his drum stick's on the floor when they were cleaning up after the show
