Drilled a hole in the boot on mine it was full of water . Remove the trim in wheel well and now have a full size spare wheel in the boot had to lift the surrounding carpet by about 1 ½ inch to get the boot carpet lid fush . Mine leaking from the boot lights took them out and cleaned around the seals no more leaking . Thanks for the video very informative . One thing i do recommend is if you have a condensation problem put the heating on full all the time and put to the side window vents once up to temperature close the vents and keep all the heat going in the dashboard . Because excessive condensation in the dash causes electrical gremlins when the water condensate on the electric connection . Running the heater constantly on full remove the majority of condensation from inside .you need to keep the window open slightly to allow remove hot damp air
This video was so well-timed! My civic has just filled with water this winter. The fuel filler drain was blocked, I have just drained that, I will tackle the others at the weekend and look forward to a dry boot going forward, thanks for a really well-made video!
My sons Civic has exactly this issue. I'll be sorting this out thanks to your video. Something we have also noticed is that there is a parasitic battery drain on the car alarm circuit. My son got around this by constantly removing the relevant fuse when not using the car for any length of time. However, now the car boot is being regularly dried out, the battery drain problem has gone away! Hopefully fixing the boot leak will fix the battery drain too.
Thanks for the vids, I have had a leak on my car, I replaced the foam gaskets behind the lights on the actual boot lid. They were completely gone and leaking. I used some 4 mm neoprene material, drew around the old gasket and cut it out and gutter sealed them in. I am now going to do the light and the gutter seal to give it the full beans. Thanks again 👍
Just found out last week I have the leaky boot and damp driver front carpet. Your timing is perfect. I hope to fix this myself, thanks to your vids. Thank you!
There's another handy video floating about on UA-cam for trouble shooting the drivers side foot well leak well worth searching for if you haven't seen it yet.
my civic is like a sieve - i hate it. for years it's been the boot first running down the side, dripping onto rear shock mount. now the boot lid fills with water. now also have a swimming pool for a drivers footwell
Thank you so much for uploading these videos. I'm now on to my second 2.2 cdti because of this issue and I'm in the middle of swapping my tow bar over and I'll be sealing my new one whilst I'm at it following this as a guide.
Cheers for the growing gallery of fn/fk information Lew. Literally the only decent channel I can find for the car. Coincidentally my fk3 formed a swimming pool in the boot last week, pretty sure it's the rails. When you take the trims off, do they basically need to slide forwards? I'm not going to take them off entirely, just want to pop the back up and get some seam sealer in there. Cba with breaking clips lol.
Great video. I've got half my boot trim out so far, even managed not to snap off the bolts. Floor mat was saturated! Got some tiger seal arriving tomorrow, so a job for Friday. Unless it continues to piss it down. 😂
Followed your videos step by step on my mk8 today/yesterday, except I used RTV silicone under the weather strips this morning! Fingers crossed she stays dry, thanks a lot mate keep up the great work.
Yep looks like mine was the top seams, I sealed them first with some clear silicone, now I know that's it might go back with the epoxy method and paint. Now just need to sort my leaking windscreen seal.... That seems to be a bit harder to sort!
Been looking forward to this. Trying to fix a leak on my partners Nissan Note and it’s given the the confidence to remove trim and have a look. No sign of where it’s coming in yet but this part 2 has given me some more ideas to try so fingers crossed!
Ok. First of all you have to replace rear lights and bumper. Just under they are 2 rubber plugs which they can shrink when temperature is around 0. Try to seal around them on left and right side. Water when is coming down from roof and rear spoiler alway going around them when they damage or just shrink you have your leak.
Every test I did when the car was actively leaking the bungs let in zero water for me. I've seen them leak before and I understand they're a common culprit but my bungs were absolutely fine and water was coming from higher up the panel work for me. The state in which those cracks were in needed fixing regardless of leaks or not. But in my opinion, I'd rather eradicate a leak from the source than make sure it flows past everything else.
My centre readouts info screens in centre of the rev counter isn't working properly ask can't get by the speed limit 30 50 mph warnings setup I'm trying to get the VTEC light limiter on and LEDs revs switched on I hold in the I info button and it's supposed to take you to VTEC limited light tells you that it's. I no longer have the car so I don't know how it's doing now but the rubbers we're the only thing I didn't do. I believe I've covered everything but that.
Hey man, have you ever had an issue with the Perspex rear window coming loose? One side on mine is lifted up and the rubber seal is coming away too, is there a way to stick that back down/seal it up?
Can you please do a recap video on all the leaks you found and the repairs so we can use this video as a step-by-step (play-pause-play) repair video 👍👍👍👍👍
I get what you mean mate but after two videos about the leaks locations and fixes in detail it'll be a bit over kill making a third just to streamline it. It's probably easier to make notes from these videos than wait for me to spend a couple of hours editing a completely fresh one bud 👍🏻
Not sure your hose was powerful enough to make it feel like rain, why don't you take the trim of and smoke test the inside of the car then stand outside see where its coming from ,
Okay so if I just leave it. What's the danger in rust happening ?? And will the car smell damp if just left? Thanks in advanced to who ever replies. Ps all in the boot where the spare wheel lives is soaked. Everywhere else is dry.
It may start smelling damp yes and it'll fog up your windows a lot quicker. As long as there's no bare metal it shouldn't rust but you won't know unless you look under the carpet.
@@FNLEW thanks for the reply. So I' would you recommend trying to get some money knocked off the car at least so I can have it done professionally? And how much would you pay for it to be done properly (not from honda)
@@t8365 I haven't a clue mate as it's not really a professional job to do as it's just sealing cracks. So I couldn't put a price on it. Unfortunately it happens to all of these cars at some point so I don't think the price could be negotiated less because of it.
bought a civic.. found a pool in the boot. went to youtube and found this vid....job done. saved me a nightmare, your a gentleman.

Condensation and temperature are a good way to grow mold in your car.
You should really deal with infiltrations.

I just found the river nile in the boot today, gonna try fixing it sometime next week hopefully
I was cleaning my Civic for today's MOT and found the compartment filled with water. Going to target those top seals first and see how it goes.

I just viewed a mint black type R but found a slight leak in the boot, it really has left me in decide whether to buy it, thanks for the video
