Booktube once again knows its stuff, I can see why this is such a beloved story, yet it is so hard to express. The relationship between the Housekeeper, Root, and the Professor just absolutely gets into your heart.
Glad you enjoyed Elena Knows! Elena really is such an abrasive character, but I loved her. I keep thinking I need to pick up The Housekeeper and the Professor too!
Elena absolutely is, thorny character and thorny topics, but such a wonderfully effective story really. I am so glad Pinero has got the attention in the english publishing market now that's well deserved. Housekeeper was phenomenal in such a quiet book, it has so much to say and take away from the reading, what also being just so gentle and tender. I think you should definitely get around to it!
Becca, these two books are books that I'm looking for (used copies) at the moment 😂 Especially Elena Knows - as the author is absolutely popular righy now. I wasn't too crazy about The Memory Police but The Housekeeper + the Professor has a premise that is interesting enough for me to want to read it.
Well hopefully you will find them, I had passed up Housekeeper multiple times for too much $ at book sales before finally springing for it. I would be incredibly surprised if you don't love that one, it seems like your absolute sort of thing, very intimate, quiet, character study.
That seems wild, I will never understand how they decide what to do audio for - though I know previous books of hers have been small press so they probably have to be choosy... but she is so well known/loved now and has won so many awards! I was shocked when I got the Elena Knows from my library they don't have it on audio or ebook, and had to transfer it from the city library, because there are so few copies in the system, which is odd to me, it should be all over.
I really loved Elena Knows when I read it earlier this year (though I agree Elena and Rita are extremely unlikeable lol) so I definitely want to check out The Housekeeper and the Professor! I also watched the movie adaptation of Elena Knows (available on Netflix) and it followed the book fairly closely! It really felt like the book had come to life. Definitely recommend checking that out if you haven’t already.
I love that a book explored such difficult topics in such an engaging way, and has really captured people's attention across the bookish world, well deserved for Elena Knows. And woah! I knew there was an adaptation coming, but somehow missed that it was out, so thank you for mentioning that! I will absolutely have to watch it, great to hear it stays true to the book.
Yayayayayayay ❤❤ Housekeeper and Professor has another fan!!

I loved both of these books!
The booktube hype on both of these definitely did not let me down!

I loved Elena Knows. I want to read her newest but it doesn't have an audiobook yet.
