I know right! It feels like the book is talked about everywhere, now that I've finally read it, I will contribute to the endless gushing and tell you absolutely you should read it. It isn't high action, but I was definitely expecting it to be more slow and plotless than it was, such a tense and mysterious book. Hope you are well and having a happy new year!
I've meant for a long time to read something else by David Mitchell. I'm intrigued! I have read The Thirteenth Tale but it's been a long time. Ah, Rebecca. I loved that one. I also waited years! Mrs. Danvers! What a fun reading project.
You definitely should try some David Mitchell, I'm thoroughly sold on him. I've just begun The Reason I Jump, he wrote the intro for it because he and his wife (trying to understand their autistic child) were instrumental in getting it translated to english. The intro nearly brought me to tears, and is just both so heartfelt and also unbelievable accurate/accessible way of describing how autism feels coming from someone who doesn't seem to have it, he's just worked so hard to grasp it as well as possible. OMG that picture of Mrs Danvers was perfect yet terrible! At first I was almost on her side in the book, thinking people were overdoing it that she is ominous or had ill intentions.
What a successful reading project! How nice that all of them ended up being so good. I've heard of David Mitchell before, but not Slade House - that sounds intriguing.
This was a point when I just absolutely needed some "sure thing" reads, and this set was the surest of sure... and it paid off! My next vlog (hopefully today) will be the next level of sure-ness....
I've only read Cloud Atlas by Mitchell but I loved it and read it twice, I dunno why I haven't tried more. Setterfield is an author I've always meant to check out. Love Rebecca, she is such a great writer.
That excites me to get to Cloud Atlas, I have Black Swan Green and Bone Clocks on my shelves to get thru first, but Cloud Atlas sounds so strange and wonderful I need to get to it as well. DO you know if it ties in with his connected books? I probably need to look up what those books are... Oh you are in for a treat whenever you get to Setterfield, I very much think you would like her writing, she tells very slow atmospheric stories, just beautifully written.
I’m super intrigued by Slade House now, that sounds great! And Rebecca has been on my radar for years, ever since I saw the Hitchcock film of it. In fact I’ve had the ebook for years. One of these days I’ll get around to it too! 😅
@@ReadBecca Right, so I have to watch Hogfather and you have to watch Rebecca! 😄 I've heard so many good things about the book - I'll get to it eventually, I hope. 🤞
Fun reads!
I've been hearing a lot about Rebecca since discovering booktube, and it is something I would like to read. Good to hear that you enjoyed it too.

Oooh great vlog Becca. I have Slade House on my TBR and you’ve just bumped it up my priorities.
Awesome, I am so stoked to dive into more David Mitchell in the new year, Slade House was so lovely and spooky.

Becca reading Rebecca :) I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I know, right? It seems an absolute scandal I hadn't read the book with my name.

I'm pleased you enjoyed these so much! I have not yet read Rebecca but I want to.
Whelp, I am now definitely in the conglomerated mass who will be pushing Rebecca on everyone who hasn't read it... so you should get to it soon! 😁
@@ReadBecca Is it best to read during Autumn or would it hit the same all year round? I'll try to prioritize it this year.

Good reminder I need to watch the Hitchcock, I've somehow never seen it! You must read the book, it really is the masterpiece everyone says.
