    2024 was a great year for your channel. Lots of news and rumors. It was an exciting year for me as a Canon photographer. Nikon and Sony photographers did well too. I'm looking forward to more content in 2025. Simon, wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year. You've told us about some sadness coming shortly. My prayers for comfort as your family moves forward. Distance is just physical. The soul, good thoughts and love are everywhere. Thank you, Simon.

    The worst are those channels that are supposed to present comparison between 2 items and all they do is play images or videos with an AI voice-over simply reading the spec sheet of the products

      not to mention those videos comparing a not yet released camera with an older model or different camera system...

    Honestly what blows my mind is people act surprised by any of this. The fact is AI has slowly but surely been making it's way into every consumer electronic device for at least a decade. Photography is no exception to this, the big camera brands are pushing AI hard and expecting the it to do most if not all of the heavy lifting. One of the UA-cam channels I watch (cant remember if it's Hunter creates things or Simon De'ntremont) that proposed the very question (and I'm paraphrasing here) "If I set the camera down and said ok, I want you to take a picture of this area and I want everything to be in focus without hitting the shutter button. Who took the picture?". Sadly, this is the direction we're heading as camera tech advances.

      My thoughts exactly. Far to many people believe AI is a "scam", "buzzword" or "clever marketing" when in reality it's quite the opposite. These are the same people who aren't at all familiar with tech history. Any new technology is going to be a bit "rough" in the beginning. But as time progresses the technology will slowly but surely get better. It's basically the boiling frog effect.

    I know this is not AI because you said the "back of your mind just watch and listen for red flags" and we know we do not have eyes or ears in the back of our mind to watch or listen. 🤣👍 Happy New Year Simon 🎆🍾

    Regarding the end of year sales, Canon refurbished products are interesting but I believe they only ship within USA... I never found a way to have an item shipped to Canada as Canon's website won't allow postal codes (only zipcodes, at least, the last time I checked) 🤔

    I remember when Lumix offered deep learning AI DFD autofocus...It didn't learned anything because the autofocus was smoothed brain.

    Camera Conspiracies actually does add in AI generative images...but mostly as a joke. I do like how he turns that around.
    I've never really been a fan of AI doing this kind of work; generating images, scripts or other large bodies of written material, answers, etc. And having it do voice overs is just creepy. I agree with the Northups on this, there needs to be some indicator like what we see with watermarked images, that identifies whats been generated by AI. The school where I work in, its on their policy that work done with generative AI is considered plagiarism (though I don't know how they'd notice).

    Very interesting topic, and some excellent comments here. I'll never be more than an avid hobbyist in terms of photography, but I've been a professional musician for 40+ years. I read an awful lot of "journalism" on the Internet that is clearly AI-generated, and it's uniformly bad.
    I generally couch my comments regarding AI in this way: Once AI can create a Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, a Handel's Messiah, a Bach's Mass in B Minor, a Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, etc., then we can talk. Until then, I will remain a skeptic.
    To me, any act of artistic creation needs to come from within the creator (the "soul", if you will); the tools used to bring the art about are just that, tools. I wouldn't expect my hammer to nail two boards together by itself. I certainly realize that AI's algorithms can also be considered tools, but I'm still old-school enough to believe that the tools must be wielded by by the creator. My opinion only, obviously; AI is here to stay whether we like it or not.

    I am not overly concerned about AI generated content. Humans, as we are (I am definitely not an undercover AI-agent), will in most cases revert back to the ”campfire” to listen to stories like we always have. AI is a fantastic tool. But, content is king. Ai generated content that is not helpful will not in the long run win the viewers hearts.
    I hope this makes sense, I have a terrible cold 😅
    Keep it up Simon! We love your content.

    • @illegalalien6542
      @illegalalien6542 22 дні тому +2

      I'm sorry but this is a very naive take on the current situation. Humans will not "revert back to the campfire". As technology progresses humans will quite literally experience the opposite effect and drift further apart as their daily feed is filed with AI generated content. As you said yourself "content is king" and humans are addicted to content. Plain and simple.

    • @smalljohansson
      @smalljohansson 21 день тому

      @ a completely fair point. I forgot about the campfire in our pocket, and that we are in the end a bunch of idiots. It’s going to be an interesting ride at least!

    Exactly! The accuracy of AI chatbots has plummeted over the last few months, perhaps a big companies overshowed its capabilities to the point that services no longer aligned with their targets.

    AI is dangerous

    • @Stalled-wm3qd
      @Stalled-wm3qd 21 день тому

      Very dangerous indeed! Ultimately it will control everything you do!
      Now who is the most wicked entity you have ever read about or heard about?
      Well that entity is behind all this technology being used to control everything you do and ultimately require your obedience and worship!
      Are you going to go along with it and bow down to it or not? Yes or no?
      Or do you already worship that which you know is above anything else that can be offered or imposed?

    When people embrace the technology advances (including AI) rather than embracing the art of photography, our environment and culture will be forever negatively changed.

    • @Stalled-wm3qd
      @Stalled-wm3qd 21 день тому

      AI is about to take control of everything we do. Like an overseer. If you don't agree and comply you will be locked out!
      Yes, that is what is coming. Complete obedience or else!
      Your obedience will be required by this entity.
      This is the everlasting choice between Good and Evil.
      Can you tell the difference?
      There is only ONE person you should worship!
      And it ain't AI!!!

    • @alansach8437
      @alansach8437 21 день тому

      AI, I agree, but we are constantly embracing technology advances. Years ago it was advances in film technologies. Then auto focus. DSLRs. Mirrorless. Improvements in tracking abilities. All are technology advances most of us have embraced. AI is something different. I can sit at my computer and have it design a photographic image of anything I can imagine. Within a very short time (if not already), it will be virtually impossible to tell the difference between that image and reality. That really doesn't matter to hobbiests, who do it for the pure joy and personal satisfaction of doing it (however, I already find myself having to convince people that, yes, that's a "real" photograph!) But commercial photography may suffer immensely, and even cease to exist.

    When that happens then I Unfollow, Unlike and Dislike (give the reason) the post. Then I add a comment in uppercase characters to warn others (something like AI generated f_ke n_ws) to warn others. I regularly find such fakes in history ("2 minutes ago they found...") and Ukraine related channels. Most of the time they repeat themselves multiple times to make it extra long without explaining the title.
    Happy New Year Simon, wishing you a healthy & prosperous one to you and your family.

    Unfortunately, AI is getting better. You can usually still find a glitch here and there that clues you in. But AI is very close to replacing human content -- and not just on UA-cam. Have you noticed that the first entries on Google search results are AI now? And they are WRONG about half the time!
