    Such an aweful disease. Credit to you for taking care of your partner. My late step grandmother worked her butt off taking care of my grandfather before he died. She never put in a home and took great care of him. I was never close with my mothers step mother, but in my heart i harbored great respect for her and how she cared for my grandfather. Not many people can do that.

    My grandma died of Alzheimer's and when my mum tried to explain to other people what the disease was, many of them related it only and specifically to memory loss. Nevertheless, the disease develops beyond that. My grandma became incapable of talking, walking, eating by herself, and not even knowing when to go to the bathroom and when not, and how to do it. Our body is ruled by our brain and when it starts to die, so do other organs; one by one. That's precisely what happened to my grandma. People are very uninformed regarding Alzheimer's.

      I am sorry to hear this, my father in law is currently in this situation, he has been falling for a few years now, but in recent weeks, months it has escalated to a whole new level, and he is bed bound and clearly very challenged. I feel sad, as he is/was a really good man, and had an amazing career - but this disease is cruel and I feel sorry for my wife to see her father this way. I know she is sad, broken and knows the path that lies ahead, but that makes it less easy, and more challenged.

      @@DS-cf1zc Something similar happens to my Mum some months now. It's very difficult for me to accept her total transformation into a helpless baby. Because that's what she is right now. I really don't know how her mind works now.

      @@pcon71 Please make the most of each day you get, however challenged they may seem. My father in law sadly passed days after writing this, and my wife is grateful for those final days she got to spend with him, however cruel or sad they were - she lived for those highs where he was there, as we had always known him, even if they were brief vignettes at the end of long life.
      I do hope you have the right support around you at this challenging time.

    My Mum turned 60 this week she’s had the disease 4 years and I believe she is now in late stages.
    She says minimal random words, only has the ability to use a fork we have to cut her food. Struggles to walk, can’t use the toilet and can’t get dressed.
    It’s so sad.

      My grandmother also has the disease from last 3 years. From this Tuesday, she has stopped talking, spends most of the time sleeping & can’t eat or walk. Its really so sad to see her like this. So sad that there’s no treatment.

      This horrible disease happened to my grandma over 10 years ago and she is at the latest stages of this illness where all she can actually do is make sounds in response for pain and for breathing any obstruction truly probably the worst disease I’ve ever saw in my life.

    Thank you for sharing your story. In our family we have the PSNE1 gene. What that means means is Early Alzheimer's runs very high in our family. Some have their onset as early at late 20' to mid 40's. I am a caregiver for my younger sister so my heart heart goes out to all with Alzheimer's and their families and most importantly their caregivers.

    Mamaw took care of my grandfather til his death. He had alzheimers. She was an angel. If he saw cars in the church parking lot through the window, he was going to church in his pajamas and diaper. No stopping him. She followed him in her nightgown. There are few people are left like this woman in the video. Hope I am wrong.

    Seems like a great marriage and life. Like never ending hell.
    Stop her meds and start hospice. No one wants to live like that. Selfish if people keep people like this alive. Horrible life and death.

    • @kathleenthompson8134
      @kathleenthompson8134 6 років тому +15

      Brenda, meds don't keep people with dementia alive. It is a progressive disease, and while you cannot do anything to stop it, you cannot stop anything to hasten the end either, particularly at the stage Robin seems to be at in this video. Yes, at the very end, you can (depending on the advanced directive) stop feeding, supply only water, use morphine to stave off the pain of starvation, but before you get to this stage you can generally not pro-actively take steps to hasten the end. Hope this helps you to better understand the situation. Sending good thoughts
