It is time to panic. You leadership has killed the conference. They are slow to react and clueless on the right decisions to make. This is it after one yr of waiting for a deal...it is not a great deal...😢
Guys, as someone that doesn't have a dog in the fight, let's call a spade a spade - this deal sucks and it's past time to stop being in denial. If the decision makers at Utah want the best for their program, they'll make the move NOW and take the sure thing with the Big 12 over risking the well being (revenue) of your sports programs by leaving it up to your players, coaches, etc. being effective part-time Apple TV salesmen.
Just listening to this guy over the first 2.5 minutes, say out loud what it would require to actually increase revenue over time, clearly illustrates just how ridiculous the idea of streaming is.
None of those schools come close to replacing Colorado or Arizona. Y’all just keep ignoring that “playoff access” is not a set thing…. It’s not gonna survive as the auto 6 bid system.
I wish I had the optimism of a Utah fan. You're clinging to this hope that Oregon and Washington will remain in the PAC-12. If FSU basically told the ACC that they're out because of the money disparities, why would Oregon and Washington stay if those disparities will be even greater if they remain in the PAC-12? And going streaming only on Apple TV is the equivalent of the modern-age SMU sanctions. You don't have the LA and Denver markets to sell PAC-12 subscriptions so you're not reaching the $30M goal. What national recruits would want to go to the conference if they know the vast majority of the country won't see most of their games? As a Penn Stater, I'd rather be in the B1G than the Big 12. If you haven't noticed, we would've made a 12-team college football playoff in 5 out of the last 7 years. Do you know how much Manny Diaz costs as a defensive coordinator? Do you know how much we have to invest in recruiting a top 10 class? Upgrading Beaver Stadium over the next 10 years will cost nearly $3 billion. We invested over $60 million in facility upgrades in just the last 3 years. Why would we leave a conference where we will earn over $90 million a year starting in 2026 to join the ACC or Big 12 where we'll earn less than $40? We're going to sacrifice a half billion dollars over 10 years for a supposed easier path to the playoffs that we're already qualifying for in the first place? Word on the street is that Utah has only won one game against a top 25 opponent outside the PAC-12 since you joined the conference. Despite being ranked higher, Utah's defense was no match for PSU's offense and your QB thought he could outrun our defense for an entire game. The third-best B1G team was better than the PAC-12 champion. No, we don't want to be the best team in a bad conference. Again, you guys are very naive. Talent disparities matter. Money disparities matter. As someone else said, you're dying a slow death taking a streaming-only deal. By the time streaming is normalized, people will have forgotten all about Utah football with your facilities and recruiting being set back over 5 years.
Ok another clueless take, with millions on the line, will the other power conferences still allow the automatic bid for a weak conference with only 1 or 2 quality teams? Also, it's 34 million to add any Mt west team for 2024, who pays that?
Come on Utah, jump, run don’t walk to the Big XII. Can you imagine your athletes going door to door selling subscriptions, what do you do in year two when there is not anyone left to sell to. The Amway conference is in your future if Utah does not act NOW!
Ok, another clueless take. With the economy being what it is, how many casual fans are going to pay for ESPN and Apple TV with the the additional upcharge of the pac? It's not about streaming vs linear, it's about inventory. If you are on a budget, do you choose ESPN which has multiple leagues and sports, or Apple which only has the pac and mls? Don't see casual fans paying for both.
We're in a real life game of musical chairs. There are 3 seats. Arizona has a lock on one seat. Utah and Arizona State can have the other 2 seats unless Washington and Oregon decide to make a move.
Excited about deal: Oregon St and Wazzu. They are going to sign away on anything. Who is telling Canzano everyone is excited and aligned? Kirk Schultz, the only person that will talk to John, we all know what his word is worth.
You are kidding yourself, thinking a streaming deal will work out. Keep messing around, Utah, and you will be on the outs. That would be terrible considering how far the program has come along.
They also leave out it will probably be a add on to Apple TV. ESPN has the ground work to make the switch but Apple doesn’t. Y’all won’t be able to stay competitive on Apple. The casuals won’t watch pac 12 football if it’s on Apple behind a paywall
ill keep this simple, you say the pac 12 would want Oregon and Utah on ESPN ( and say it should be top viewing ). Now your Apple paying 300 million to the Pac 12 per year to give up some of your very best games ( Washington vs oregon or Utah ) to another platform say ESPN? hell no you bought the pac 12 to have those games specifically on the apple streaming, why would Apple give that up? they would be crazy to give any of those games up unless your talking 50 million or more.
The Mountain Wext gets better TV exposure than we do . Players and Recruits will be leaving our program like crazy at the next transfer portal. We’re Dead… Let’s just join the Mountain West!!!
It’s funny though. All of the Utah fans online said the deal would be much better than the big12’s by far. Utah fans were literally laughing about how crappy the Big12 deal is and how they were gonna get 50mil a year as a minimum. It’s almost like they live in a magical fairy land. That’s probably why they think they’re football team is a world beater.
Full Disclosure: I'm a BYU fan who would love to see Utah and the PAC 12 die a slow and painful death. But I cannot fathom why you guys aren't seeing that joining the Big 12 is the only option to stick it to UW and Oregon. Because they will leave the moment they get an offer from the Big 10 leaving the rest of the conference out to dry. Now is the only chance you have to get secure yourselves a good conference spot and a decent TV deal and ensure that UW and Oregon get picked up for WAY less than they're worth. Yes, changing conferences is tough and you've done a ton work and struggled for many seasons to establish your success... but I cannot see another way out of this. It earnestly pains my heart to say this... but just join the Big12 already. Or don't.
If it was actually good then they would have signed off on it. Does sdsu actually make enough to justify the cost of leaving the mountain west. Lack of exposure killed y’all to begin with
🏃♂️No second chances to get this right! Pass on this "Opportunity" to go to the Big-12 Now and they will be moving Eastward to expand and be leaving the West behind! The bus/train is leaving Now and this is your last chance to get on it! 🚌🚂
This is not even remotely close to an acceptable deal. 🙄 what are you guys talking about.😅 I just can't figure out where logic and reason exists past the rockies. Did the pod people take over the west coast?
Apple Subscription streaming model? Are u kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought UofU AD was a smart dude? And Kyle. Guess the U will go backwards 11 yrs. Mountain West.
The Big12 should be cautious to add more than 2 PAC schools. The PAC leadership consists of university leadership. How much of that do we really want in the Big 12? Take AZ only!!
U both agree Apple streaming only is a no go. Anything more than that is a wishlist at this point. Why is this all a secret. Or is it as simple as stream only?
No we won't. If Oregon and Washington leave, there is no need to go after any PAC school (except Arizona - keep that BB credibility intact). Better to wait for some ACC teams in the future. If The BIG and SEC want to break away, BB may be the only thing that keeps the B12 relevant.
Hello Utah fans....WVU fan here. I love college football (well not as much since transfer portal) but come on over, lets have some fun , competitive football . There is one world where the PAC deal is worth it. You’re missing the point. Exposure. If you’re on Apple where nobody hardly sees you that isn’t a die hard Pac 12 fan, and you play late games nobody sees, the confidence will die a slow death. Utah would would easily be one of the best teams in the B-12 from the get go. Colorado and Arizona are going be the patsies the good teams beat up on. Just like they were in the Pac-12.
I agree Utah should stay. The cfp is top 6 conference champions so winning ur conference is the best way. Bring in boise, sdsu even smu and memphis with its fedex money
For some reason when I was watching this, an image flashed in my head - Kevin Bacon in Animal House saying "Remain calm. All is well." - ua-cam.com/video/zDAmPIq29ro/v-deo.html
Utah will be fine with or without the Pac-12. Utah made $687 million in research money. That is almost %600 higher than BYU. Utah has goals of over 1 billion in research revenue. $11 million less in athletics is a drop in the bucket. You big 12 fans are so blind. A university will look at all departments income of a university. Athletic department income is a drop in the bucket. Educational income is so much greater than athletic money. Pac-12 teams make far more total money than the Big12. It’s not even close Stanford, Cal, and Washington all make over a billion In research dollars. They all individually make more money in research dollars than all the Big12 combined. 😂
But you can't spend a dime of research money on athletics. If you want your research funds shut off, try misappropriating and see what happens. FYI- There are a lot of very prestigious universities that don't focus on R&D. Also, very few students participate in research so it's a bit overblown as to benefiting the typical student.
And students go to a university because of research? Perhaps as graduates, but the only thing undergraduates are used for is to clean the labs. It reminds me of my former university president saying all the parents of incoming freshmen were asking him what kind of research opportunities they had at our university. I replied that was strange because all the parents were asking me (as a department head) was would their son/daughter be able to get a job when they graduated. You obviously have never been in academia,\.
You can make as much money as the big 12 if you turn your athletic departments into pyramid sales teams...sounds great!
It is time to panic. You leadership has killed the conference. They are slow to react and clueless on the right decisions to make. This is it after one yr of waiting for a deal...it is not a great deal...😢
But they’re really good at research and stuff. Very smart.
Money isn’t as important as easy access for viewership. This contract will be a slow death for Utah.
...or a quick death.
This deal is worse than what Craig Thompson saddled the MWC with!

None of those schools come close to replacing Colorado or Arizona. Y’all just keep ignoring that “playoff access” is not a set thing…. It’s not gonna survive as the auto 6 bid system.
It has been reported in multiple places that the PAC 9 will need to cover game production costs with this deal. $500k to $1 million per game...wow!
So even at 500k per broadcast times six games is 3 mill, times 12 game weekends, is 36 million out of the 150 million. Bad deal looks worse.
@@timothywest1183 Don't forget Comcast.

I replied that was strange because all the parents were asking me (as a department head) was would their son/daughter be able to get a job when they graduated. You obviously have never been in academia,\.
Stanford, Cal, and Washington will jump to the Big10. Still won't affect your research funding, you'll just be doing research in the MWC.
