For years,we have been told by radio professionals, repairmen, and operators how to treat our walkie talkies to get the most out of them. Then we see another guy on UA-cam handling his radio by the antenna. NEVER PICK UP A RADIO BY THE ANTENNA!
and yet i pick mine up by the antenna all the time, and it still works just fine.. It came loose once, but, I screwed back on and all was right with the world again. I do it out of habit mostly, but also to see how many "comment experts" get triggered by seeing me do it...
Haha. You got another one! What a TOOL! You can handle these by the antennae occasionally and the sun will still come up in the morning. Cracks me up that there are people out there that would bother to complain about that. I knew when I saw it there’d be at least one loser freaking out. Appreciate you not letting me down Chris Rundle. Thanks for another hilarious and informative video NotaRubicon! Keep it up.👍
Hey, Chris, It wasn't your 'antenna' that your mother was constantly telling you to stop touching. Randy only gives you permission to grab your RADIO by the antenna. Grabbing anything else and you are on your own.
You’ve taught me more than in 2 weeks than my sad ham co worker who’s been a sad ham for the last 30 years. I’ve been teaching him things about our UV-5r’s from your videos. He hasn’t said it but he appreciated your content second hand haha
Again No Kittens were harmed in the making of this video.... Thanks Randy for your production educational tutorials. I'm a proud owner of 9 Baofeng radios including the UV-5R
Awesome! Always nice to find more features with my radio that I'll probably forget how to use within the next 30 minutes. But, I can always come back here. Thanks Randy!
Sad Ham here...I F'ing love the humor of this channel. I love the new wave of Hams coming into the hobby today, such a breath of fresh air. When I first got my license in 2011 I found many Elmers who I felt were waiting to pounce every time I said something on a forum that triggered these subject matter experts. Actually, it made me less interested in communicating with other hams and stuck with just my off-road bro's. Love your channel, learning more with each video.
Thanks for clearin' that up sir 🍻. I knew I was close, but it'd been a while since I'd even turned my Baofeng on. Someone got me all hot and bothered about Wouxun and I haven't turned back.
As an absolute newbie to the subject of walkie-talkies, I've been placing numerous vids, here on the tube, into a collection. I've just watched your's, but am sadly no wiser, as I have no idea why you would want to trace a tone or it's connection to the other radio, due to all the jargon you use, however, your hilariously scathing style of presentation, sad hams and all, made it an thorougy enjoyable watch. I wonder how many understood your closing comments? 😂😂😂 I may return to this vid, when I have a modicum of knowledge and experience under my belt, in fact, I suspect I may have to, in my seeking of knowledge dispensed with a soucant of sarcasm, but thanks for posting all the same!
I'm a happy ham and I love your channel - Good info on the Buofwang radio!!! Sad hams should realize there are much bigger things to fret about. Keep up the great work! P.S. My kids busted up when they heard you in the background; 'Life can be wonderful, unless you're stupid...' 🤣LOL
Great info, Thank-you. Your dry sarcastic type of humor makes my day better. Lots of sad hams out there, they should be thanking you instead of bashing. Your info actually helps people like me from breaking rules and that should make "happy hams".
Come on now, we can't have people haphazardly rearranging the electrons in the atmosphere without first getting permission from the Federal government. Those electrons belong to them.
I am a sad ham but quite happy to have learned some good tips from you and hopefully will continue to. I had no idea you can scan for CTSS codes on an HT.....back to sad ham school for me.
Since I recently bought my UV-5R and found your channel you have taught me how to do everyrhing with it as my UV-5R only came with a pamphlet in the box not an actual owners manual like my Yaesu VX-6R came with so thanks for all your great videos on the Baofeng UV-5R
I love reading the comments. I'm amazed at how many grown men get upset over a UA-cam video. If you were doing anything illegal I'm quite sure the radio police (real ones) would be knocking on your door.
I got my first one last night, went through all the settings with you. I gotta say, for the money, it’s got plenty of features, and certainly doesn’t "feel" cheap. I thinks it’s a great first step up from the bubble wrap frs I was using. As far as I know, there are no limits on it. Seems the Canadian ones don’t have to. We have slightly easier rules about licenses, I believe.
This is some very good information and something I wasn't even aware that could be done. I did skim through the manual of my UV-5R radios, but mostly so I could program frequencies I use for paintball events.
Hey I need some help man. I'm a stupid person apparently. I have all the frequencies in my town/police dispatch/patrol/fire/ etc and I have heard nothing for 2 days and it should be going off all the time. Are they encrypted? They have tones and type on the website you mentioned but I don't know how to add them in this radio. Thanks man, love your channel.
I appreciate your hard work and the information that you bring to youtube on various type of radios. You sir do not waste my time and love the smartass that you bring to the channel so I will NOT WASTE YOUR TIME and look forward to all of your new dropped videos.
Because of this channel, I am a proud owner of a Baofeng UV-9G. It's all your fault Randy, i hope you're proud of yourself now....lol The uv-9g scans tones as well and yes, same procedure as the uv-5r because I read the manual. *snickers to self*
The way you tell the story about radio is not only interesting but as well shows your love to it when you stroke your fingers around it (except when you hold it by Antenna.😬😁) But sad hams term reminds me some serious guys not smiling or excited or friendly during their calls ... 73
I love it when Randy shares a little of the 'sacred knowledge'. I seem to always learn a little something on every one of his videos. Keep up the good work, young man.
Great video! Great content and style. Love the plastic being pulled off the display. Imagining doing it in slow motion with some funky "adult" type music.
I swear I come close to death every time you poke and prod the egos of the sad hams 🤣😂 Imagine being one of the unlucky few that only developed one skill in life (and still can only preach what they've read someone else teach them) and their whole existence felt like it depended on correcting us wrongdoers and then their illiterate red face angry comments get pinned at the top. Please keep posting and teaching me cool stuff so I don't need to read owners manuals 😬🙏🏼
i spent an hour one night tryin to figure out tones by setting them one at a time and keying up for three frequencies.....Wish'd I had known this, oh well. Now I love my "Boo Fwang" more than ever now!!!
I am a HAM, I would not cry, however I, am not a sad ham🐷, but a happy one that will occasionally bend the rules a little. I recently gifted a UV-5R to my best friend that is also my cousin, he is now learning very dangerous magic from you.
Come on guys, ONLY 283 "Likes"????? Randy works hard to put content out there for us to enjoy, and was kind enough to drop the veil of secrecy surrounding the "Likes" count. Surely we can do better by him than this. 😡
Thank you Randy!! I was able to use this feature on my Baofeng UV-9G to determine the preset subcodes on my Pofung BF-T11 FRS radios, so I could set up my other radios to match those. Not ideal, but it'll work :)
_you made me subs bro with a lot of a genuine and accurate informations you've been sharing than another channels i appreciate you so much keep it up._ _by the way lol at the way how you hold that bofeng upside down kinda disrespectful for their brand, don't mind just noticed it._
I live out in the country. The only thing I can hear is a school bus driver talking to the school. Thanks for the videos and the way you explain things.
You are absolutely right about these sad hams and their elite status in the radio frequency world. 😁 that’s why I will never let them know that on occasions I transmit from a General Lee 10 meter radio with 35 watts 🤫
Thanks Randy!!! You are dangerous. I have watched several of your videos and now I'm addicted!! This could result in the purchase of new radios/equipment probably followed by divorce?? Why can't you just be boring like everyone else???
Just want to say I'm jest starting to get in these radios I was a CB'r back in the day but I enjoy your content keep up thd gr8 work BTW the Sad Ham is cool but the outher ones that dish u ant lol gr8 content
Looking at Paragraph 14-DCS Table in the UV-5R manual, you will notice that Baofeng uses a smaller subset of all available DCS codes and hence, it will not "find" a DCS tone that is being transmitted if it is not one of the DCS tones included in the UV-5R (for example it will not find D111N; Code No. 74 in the Radioddity DB-20G Manual, because it is not included in the UV-5R DCS Table).
Whew! I was on the EDGE of Sad Hamdom! 😢 And I almost fell off the wagon... But I recovered... back to Happy Hamdom! 🐷😁 You are frolicking on the fringes of legalistic damnation, good sir! ☝️😲 LOL...

Hey, Chris. I don't have a license to use my radio but I do so anyway. Nobody will ever catch me and sun will still rise.
"Rules and regulations, not laws" Love it,
I appreciate your ability to read and put a video out for our lazy asses. Keep up the great work!

Ha. Ham Nazi is such an accurate term.

You’re one of my favorite UA-cam channels! Love your videos!
Damn, it never fails! I knew the first time I saw you doing it, that you were just antagonizing the sad hams!

My gawd, that crummy $30 radio never ceases to amaze me.

Great instructional video! You make it easy to set this sweet radio up!
Great vid for the tone but how can you scan for the offset?
very good video and you are funny keep up the good work and many thanks
Best video you ever put out..I actually learned from I!!!!!
You should hang all those radios in the background on a Christmas tree. It'd be purtier than a new set of snow tires.
This could be fun,... I live 1.5 miles from a Walmart & many of their Radios are a UV-5R or variant :)
Thank you dude!
