I was eagerly awaiting to see whether rallycross cars (still) are the fastest accelerating cars in the motorsport world, but got disappointed they weren't even in the video. With so many lower classes included, it was quite surprising to see rallycross omitted.
Those are the best cars overall in dozens of areas, which doesn't meant they are the fastest accelerating from a standstill. Acceleration from 0 km/h is not really relevant in those competitions. In fact I can assure you the LMDh cars like the Porsche or the Cadillac leave the pit boxes faster than the Toyota in WEC but it's only one or couple tenths faster at most.
This video is the 3rd part of a series comparing cornering and braking across motorsport. I used the same cars as in the previous videos. The short is yes, in most cases. Wheelspin is kind of unavoidable as your transferring all that heat and pressure through the tires. The energy to move the car from a standstill to full acceleration. It depends on how beefy the transmission is and the drive train. I.e a 4wd will have a different launch technique to a rear wheel drive. Being turbo or na or electric can impact the tyres as well. Road cars have road which are much more likely to spin as opposed to slicks or drag radials but rely on heat disperition and Tyre pressure. Road surface, a wet loose surface will more likely cause wheelspin than a dry sealed surface. Again heat plays a part in whether the car will bog down or hook up. Another factor to consider is whether you want to show off or not 😂.
@@GAWTYONEK thank you for the information. Even if wheelspin is nearly unavoidable, I imagine it is not a truly 100% perfect launch if there is wheelspin, or am I mistaken? I thought that would be the case, hence I was confused by this video unless this video was going for more of an "in practice" than "100% perfect" demonstration.
@rulemaker4 Yeah the perfect launch is a thing of beauty. I suggest watching a few Carwow videos as Matt does lots of launches in various different mobiles. Watching any funny car or top fuel dragster launches will blow your mind as well especially slo mo with the tire flex. My personal favourite are rolling starts as you pretty eliminate wheelspin and it's easiest on the car and driver 😉.
It's always avoidable, you just have to be very easy on the throttle, like in a road car. But to make a good start you would much rather have some very slight wheelspin than being to conservative on the throttle. The harder you are on the throttle, the larger the contact patch of the tyre gets even if it causes some wheelspin
In assetto you can drag race.. i did a 200 meter race with a 206 gti vs a race truck that race was so close!! Maybe fun to make videos like a this vs that kind of vibe ???
