Good video ❤ Just a tip as I have been making these for years and learned the hard way lol If you rinse your moulds is a light soapy bath just before you pour the mix the bubbles will not form on the top of your rocks and a lot less on the sides. I also remove from the mould right after it sets (30-45 min) when the rock has just set it is so much easier to lightly sand the bottom and the damp dust fills into any bubble marks. I use Hydrostone now and I don’t need to sand much at all. But with cement and Ultracal 30 I did. Anyway just a couple of tips I learned . ❤❤❤
Perfect tips!!! After I made this video I forgot to rinse my molds. I noticed when I set up to make another batch. I tossed them into a bucket of water with a little soap and I thought 💡 I just shook them off and didn’t rinse. I was feeling lucky smart. Lol!! I’ve never heard of Hydostone… I’ll check it out. I have never heard of Cement All, I have been using UltraCal 30. You also may be getting a lot of bubbles with the vigorous stirring with the spatula. I think I saw a recommendation on the Happy Dotting Company to use your gloved hands to mix it up. You can feel any lumps and know when it has all been mixed up without adding bubbles with all the vigorous stirring. Just a thought! Thank you for all your videos!
Yep, that's exactly how I mix the ultracal too! I'm trying to move over to reusable gloves... so I'm trying new things to cut down on my waste. I was wondering if I shouldn't try working the bubbles out of the bucket before pouring. I'm glad you reminded me about the glove stir... I'll try to be more gentle. The 15min setting time had me intimidated, LOL>
Hi there. I've been using a product called Perfect Plaster for my molds. I use the measure by weight method. I've never had bubbles form on the top of the molds. My biggest molds, when they are dry are only 6.5 oz. This works well for me because I live and craft in a motorhome. We have to be careful of how much weight we carry. Joann's carries Perfect Plaster and so does Amazon. Joann's is a better price, especially if you have a coupon. 😃💓 Your tutorials are always informative. Thanks again.
Great tip! I’m going to have to try that someday. Are they very fragile? I love that you do this in a motor home. I swear some day I’m going to travel and take my rocks with me! Sounds amazing.
I’ve been making these rocks forever but never perfected the recipe. Your video was the BEST. And sanding the backs was the absolute worst. @@Jodysfunstuff I can tell you that cement all is far cheaper than ultracal. I’m not quite finished with the box I bought but it looks like it’s going to make the same or more as my $30 box of ultracal. I think the cement all cost me 17.

Hey there - I have tried Cement All too. I found that I went through it really quickly compared to the Ultra Cal. (Maybe it was because I could only get a small bucket. I am lucky though - I can get the 50 lb bag at a art store for about $36 CAD . (In Toronto). Thank you for a very helpful video!!!
Awesome! I have a bit more to go in this box but I’ll report back in the description how far this went making these. I think this box cost me about $17 USD Do you have any tips from your experience?
@@JaDeLRocks I actually didn’t follow the exact recipe on the box because it was too watery - ended up putting in more of the mix to make more of the consistency of the UltraCal. Maybe this is why I went through it a bit faster. The stones were fine - no bubbles and were easy to paint on. The 25lb box of Cement All cost me about $25 CAD. So the Ultra Cal for 50lb box at 36 was more economical.
Hiya, I did it! I finally tried it. I've had all the items for about a month now. The tops of my stones look fantastic, the bottoms were a mess. I was afraid of over filling and ended up under filling them. I found the cement thickened up really really fast. I didn't have much time to fill the molds. Looking forward to trying again. Really addicting lol. What size measuring cup did you use? Thanks for the vido
Great job! It really did dry fast didn’t it. My results were the same. On my second try I added a little more water. Taking them from the mold earlier made it way easier to fix the back. They look good after painted though. Lol. If you learn any tricks along the way you e gotta share ♥️ I’m pretty satisfied with the results except for bubbles. This cement doesn’t absorb like ultra cal does so it’s almost impossible to get paint in the tiny holes. I’ve tried the soapy mix and that did help. No one would probably notice but it drives me nuts lol. Have you tried using your member features? I think you get customized stickers to stand out in chat?
So glad you made this video, as I haven't yet tried this Cement All but ready to ! The 2nd time around with the 3.5 added instead seemed to do the trick. They came out awesome ! Was wondering, how long did they take to fully dry before you were able to paint on them and do you think they were much heavier than when using the UltraCal30 ?
I let all my stones dry at least 5 days. I truly think these were dry sooner… maybe 2 days even. They are heavier than ultra cal. My large stones typically weigh 14-15 Oz using ultracal when dry. These are about 19 Oz. But I feel like they are stronger. Like.. I’m not scared to drop one 😂😂😂. The trick to remember is only letting them in the mold for one hour and sanding bottoms right away. The longer they dry the harder that gets. I did like the 3.5 to 1 ratio the best!
A good way to tell if they're fully dry is to set one on a sheet of paper and let it sit for about 10 minutes. If the paper is damp where the piece was sitting, it still needs to dry some more :)
@@JaDeLRocks Great job on the video! I did drop one I made with Quikrete on the sidewalk once and a chunk broke off so they definitely are not indestructible. Spraying the molds lightly with water and a bit of dishwashing liquid and then tapping out the excess liquid before pouring really does help a lot with minimizing bubbles!
I had to laugh, I don't go shopping anymore due to mobility issues. I asked my husband to get me a pack of this Quick Set Mix and he came home with Mortar Mix, which I still haven't tried btw. I hit pay dirt a couple of weeks ago and finally I could buy Ultracal 30 in a 5kg pail at a good price, online. The only down side was the freight as I live regionally in Aust so freight is just our way of life if we want something different. I can't wait to make some of my rocks with it.
Thanks so much for showing your process! I have been using Cement All for my castings. Its super cheap at home supply big box stores - about $14 for 25 lbs, and $20 for 55 lbs, but i can't carry that much! The cement block to use for sanding the backs is a brilliant idea!! My mixture is much thicker - I've been doing 4:1. I mix with my hand, wearing a disposable glove. Then i just scoop the mix into the molds with my hand. I'm going to try a pourable ratio next time since yours turned out so well. Have you had any problems with them cracking?
That’s awesome! I haven’t had any problems with cracking at all. So far my only problem with cement is the tiny holes are impossible to paint. Lol, with ultracal 30 the paint seems to absorb into every fine hole. This cement isn’t having it 😂 I paint them black and instantly see every tiny hole. I’ve got to get better at bubble removal. But you’re right… you can’t beat the price for sure. I got a little box because that’s what I could Cary too 😂😂😂 I think it was about $14.
Hi Kathie! I'm so glad you asked. I didn't think to include the tea light mold in the description. I just added it to the description of this video. You will make it the exact same way... just using a different mold. That mold is now in this video description in supplies. Good luck and I'm so sorry I didn't think to add it. You rock :)
That absolutely works!! I’ve seen it so I know you’re right. I started mixing it with more water and it’s as if it now allows the bubbles to float up. I’m just curious at how thin you can get the ratio before it doesn’t work. So far, just a tad more water doesn’t seem to change the outcome but it fixed my bubble problem.
I put mine on a lazy Susan then Lift it to tap the bubbles out. You could use a board too. That way you are taping all at the same time. I also use a soap spray I the molds to help with the bubbles,
What will you do with the ones that had so many air bubbles? I got my first rapid cement stone out today. I let it sit over night in the mold. But looking at your video you took it out 1 hour later. I was afraid it would break or not be set up enough. But my stone is beautiful. Just don't know how much effort it will be to sand the back. Thank goodness these are for family! But I still want them to be nice. Any help would be appreciated!!!
The best answer for bubbles is to not get them lol. Thinning the mix a tiny bit more with water should do it. Also.. people have suggested rubbing the stone with spackle to fill holes. I just painted mine and owned it. You can leave them in molds for longer. I only pull them out early so that sanding is easier.
Thank you Rita ♥️♥️ yes, there’s a tiny hole in the center of the molds so that your stone has a center marker. You can easily pop it off or leave it. It’s such a huge help so that you don’t have to locate the center.
Cementall is SO much cheaper than Ultracal 30 and dries really fast! I was having trouble with it setting up too quickly for me to work with so I've been putting the mix and water into a gallon ziploc bag, squishing it with my hands to get the lumps out and then cutting the corner off and filling my HDC molds. This is working really well for me but you can't do a ton at a time.
It really is a good deal cheaper. I was quite pleased with the quick drying. What took me days with ultracal took 1 day with the cement all. Once I added more water it was amazing without all the bubbles. Once I run thru all my different mixes on hand I’ll probably order more.
I may have to start stocking up on some molds so I can try making some when the weather is warmer……and I’ll definitely need to find a concrete stepping stone. Lol. Why did you decide to try a new product for making your rocks?
Yes definitely stock up… it makes this go so much faster. I will still use UltaCal as I have a huge box. The price difference between the two can’t be ignored and I’ve had soooo many requests to do this over the past year or so. I’m actually quite impressed with this.

If you watch my ultacal video it shows how I come to the conclusion of drying time. With that said.. I always wait a minimum of 5 days. However, I don’t think that’s necessary with CementAll. The label says differently. I just do it out of caution. Here’s the other video. ua-cam.com/video/Jrc-fZJUkzY/v-deo.htmlsi=WS-6kzkTXERGCWPF
I’m not sure on that… I did put my ultracal stones in a food dehydrator once, lol. Didn’t seem to make much difference I guess since I never did it again. You may want to see what the makers of this product says and that it’s safe to heat and make sure heating it doesn’t release any weird chemicals or stuff like that. Just be super safe because ya never know.
I had the very same issue and question! Thank God for HDC telling us how to do theirs with Ultracal 30! So, on this Cement All? The directions just give you a a ratio like shown in the video. I just made a batch and took notes. There's no real way to do it other than trial and error. Find the ingredients for the mix for the manufacturer and make a batch and see what it fills up. Please check these numbers but I believe that Ultracal 30 is 38 parts water to 100 parts Ultracal 30 by weight. The Cement all is 4 parts CementAll to 1 part water by volume (measuring cup). I hope this help? Let me know if it doesn't and I'll try again :) Thanks for commenting LaVana... it's a valid question and one that I think we all have. I just used trial and error until I got it right.
I painted one the next day because I was curious. However, I recommend waiting at least 3-5 days. You really don’t want lingering moisture to try and evaporate through your paint job. It’s one of those things where it’s probably fine but wait just in case 😉
You can do it! This really was easy. I have found since the video that you can add even a bit more water and it helps let the bubbles rise. Good luck.. 🤞🏻
So this maybe weird for some folks, but do you think this may work with mixing some of my pet ashes into the mix and possible some fine glitter and white paint? We have many pet urns sadly, and instead of the urns would like to create like a little river rock area of all their ashes in the stones. I am not a painter but would like the stones to be white. Any help would be appreciated as I don’t want to experiment too much as their ashes are precious. Thank you for your video it is really good.
Oh this is interesting but I can see what you are wanting. I don’t have a clue but I do know there a pigments you can get for cement but I’m not sure about white. Maybe experimenting with some wood ash might give you the info you need. We burry our pets but I do have memory stones I’ve painted so it’s not as weird as it initially sounds. Good luck.. 🤞🏻
I did that the last time.. I just made one and it was still warm. Removed it just fine. So awesome.. it even sanded super easy. You rock!! Thank you ♥️

Awesome… so far the bubbles are bothersome. I’m getting better at it I think
Just water with a touch of hand wash be ok to sprqy
Love the video! Thank you
Awesome, thanks Drew ♥️
Just a thought...if you stir slower there will be less bubbles. Any bubble holes can be filled with spackle. Still much cheaper than UltraCal 30.
At this moment this is my 2nd pick. For the price and the ease of making I would totally recommend. You know your stuff Brenda ♥️ rock on 💪🏻
I'm new here🙂 and wondering if there's a hole on the top side of the rocks made in the molds. I live your videos By the way.
Thank you Rita ♥️♥️ yes, there’s a tiny hole in the center of the molds so that your stone has a center marker. You can easily pop it off or leave it. It’s such a huge help so that you don’t have to locate the center.
Amazing video!! I have a doubt, Cement All is same Cement Grout? Thank you?
I’m not entirely sure… grout is another thing I think.
@@JaDeLRocks Ok. Thank you!
@@JaDeLRocks great information to share!! I bet you will be helping a ton of people with such a wonderful video❤️❤️. You are so devoted to your fans😍😍. I hope you have a beautiful week, rock star🤩
@@darlenemikkola5239 I was having electric issues… I’m finally back on the grid. Sorry for my late response. It’s such a mess around here. I hope you’re having a better week than me so far 😂😂😂
@@JaDeLRocks awwwwww, I hope you’ve weathered the worse and now each day starts getting brighter…. sending positive vibes❤️❤️❤️
Hi. Ty for your videos!
I’m so glad you like them… Thank you for watching Carla, it means a lot 🤗
Where can you get the moulds? What are they called?🙏🏻
Check the description or my website www.jadelrocks.com/art-desk
All the links are there.
How much does it typically take for the stones to completely dry before sealing and painting?
If you watch my ultacal video it shows how I come to the conclusion of drying time. With that said.. I always wait a minimum of 5 days. However, I don’t think that’s necessary with CementAll. The label says differently. I just do it out of caution. Here’s the other video. ua-cam.com/video/Jrc-fZJUkzY/v-deo.htmlsi=WS-6kzkTXERGCWPF
Can you put them in the oven on a low heat to help dry them faster?
I’m not sure on that… I did put my ultracal stones in a food dehydrator once, lol. Didn’t seem to make much difference I guess since I never did it again. You may want to see what the makers of this product says and that it’s safe to heat and make sure heating it doesn’t release any weird chemicals or stuff like that. Just be super safe because ya never know.
Happy dotting has measurements for each of her molds but how do you figure out how much to make for any other mold
How long does it need to dry before it can be painted please?
I painted one the next day because I was curious. However, I recommend waiting at least 3-5 days. You really don’t want lingering moisture to try and evaporate through your paint job. It’s one of those things where it’s probably fine but wait just in case 😉
Disculpen después de desmoldarlas se echan en agua para curarlas o no?
No, I don’t.
Yo creo que si
I really don’t. I remove them from the mold, sand the backs, and allow them to dry for several days before painting.
@@JaDeLRocks no entiendo nada ingles solo hola
@@yolizcalderon9237 ♥️👋🏻😊
This method im sure i can do!
You can do it! This really was easy. I have found since the video that you can add even a bit more water and it helps let the bubbles rise. Good luck.. 🤞🏻
@@JaDeLRocks 😊 thank you for the tips
Hola y en cuanto da cada pieza
I’m not sure I understand the question.
Good luck.. 🤞🏻
Dove si acquistano le forme in silicone che usate in questo video?
There are links to everything in the description ♥️♥️♥️
They can also be removed after 45 minutes
I did that the last time.. I just made one and it was still warm. Removed it just fine. So awesome.. it even sanded super easy. You rock!! Thank you ♥️
1st one reminds me of a sand dollar
You’re not wrong… boy this would be great in some sand dollar molds. Lol, wouldn’t even have to paint eh?
🤩🤩❤❤
♥️🤗
Why not tap the bubbles out while the cement is still in the bucket
You can but it’s like when you pour it makes more and sticks to mold. I’ve tried so many ways. I even just got that vibration table.
Da molto tempo sto cercando di capire a quale prodotto corrisponde il 'Cement-all' in Italia... Puoi aiutarmi? Grazie 😊
Hmmmm, let me research…
I’m struggling because I can’t read the language but I think it’s still called CementAll. I found info in you language… I think. 🤔

I’m so glad. I was trying so hard. I think it’s amazing that we can chat with little barriers in translation. The internet wasn’t so easy 😂 Good luck.. 🤞🏻
@@JaDeLRocks True, I agree 😁
Air bubbles = over mixing. Or too thick. It is best to not create a big batch but do 2-3 at time.
You are completely right! I learned the hard way. But so so true, Thank you ♥️
