Welcome to the Sierra Nevada Club! I've been drinking it for years - having lived on the US west coast, and I thank the beer gods for growth and distribution as I can enjoy it where I currently reside. Frankly, I'm a little surprised that it's readily available in UK supermarkets but good on you. Just found your channel and like your style.
Cheers! It’s been available here for some time now too, and we’re even starting to see some of the more speciality brews in our bottle shops as well. I’ve got a bottle of last years Bigfoot maturing away at the moment! Also quite keen on the idea of Kermit in political office! Cheers 🍻
@@TheCrumbyBeard As a follow-up, if you want to try a beer from one of the first "microbreweries" (1896) in the US -specifically San Fransisco, try Anchor Steam Brewing. They traditionally make what is called a California Common, or Steam Beer, but in the 1970's-80's it was one of the few "craft-style" beers on the market. It gained a small national market and brought craft beers (basically non-lager beer) to national attention. It's hard to find in the USA so not sure if you will have it available in the UK - perhaps an email and request and they will ship you some to feature? Older US beer fans will appreciate the breadth of your beer-wiki if you manage to feature a bottle. Cheers!
@@KermitForPrez that’s a great insight thank you! I have heard a lot about Anchor Steam and Steam Beer in the past so I’ll do my best to hunt some down! Cheers 🍻
Having lived in the US and coming across Sierra Nevada's range of beers, I really enjoyed them. I think because they reminded me so much of British beers.
I love all sorts of DIPAs, Imperial Stouts, Dopplebocks, etc. This is my overall favorite beer however, it has the most perfect balance of hoppy goodness, malt backbone, and overall drinkability of all the beers I've had, without getting you plastered on the floor. The torpedo is also good, but also a bit more boozy than I typically like. This stuff is liquid gold.
Recently got me a hop variety pack by them with CRYO Hops a Wet Hop Ipa. Sipping on this Pale ale it's pretty good. I normally only go to their Torpedo like u said thats some fire.
Classic. This is a go to "grocery store" beer. If you're headed to a bbq and you need to grab some beer so you don't show up empty handed... just about every grocery store carries this (in california) and it's delicious.
All of our grocery stores now carry this too! And absolutely, fantastic BBQ beer! We get a couple other SN brews but they seem to be brewed for the Euro market such as the Cali IPA and the Hazy Little Thing IPA - both are ok, but not a patch on the proper US imports I've had.
I was born and still live in Chico, CA. I regularly go to the taproom to have a flight of various beers. My favorite has always been the Hazy Little Thing IPA.
I'm on my 2nd bottle right now. My #1 brew is Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen but Rite Aid was all out of it and had to get something else. I've never had this before and love it as well. The flavor is sweet but not too sweet, tart, but not too tart. Just perfecto!! It's Sunday, I'm drinking the whole 6 pack! WOOOHOOO!!! Love your channel, from Portland Oregon USA.
Excellent! And a Hefeweizen as your go-to tells me you appreciate some well balanced beer and that is exactly what this up. Much appreciated bud, cheers!
It's an absolutely wonderful beer. The godfather of the craft beer movement in the US. Back in 2003, before I knew that craft beer was a thing, this dyed in the wool British cask beer drinker holidayed in California and drank said beer for the first time on draught (or draft), in a hotel near Yosemite National Park, so actually in the Sierra Nevada mountain range! Despite my prejudice of keg at the time, it was a revelation to me. I even brewed a clone recently which turned out great but can never equal the original.
That’s a great story Ian! Thanks for sharing! Whilst a truly great cask beer will never be toppled, this really is a fantastic doorway in to the origins of the craft approach.
Just visited their facility in North Carolina. What a fantastic compound; an estate even. They have many other styles you might enjoy, but I wonder what is shipped overseas. Kind of surprised this is available to you at all. Cheers
We are quite fortunate as a couple of businesses do import quite a large range of Sierra Nevada beer in to the UK - I have now reviewed quite a few of them! Other than the Pale Ale, in our supermarkets we get the California Pale and a lower ABV version of Big Juicy Thing that I believe are made exclusively for the European market. But thankfully we can get the real good stuff from specialists. Cheers!
Glad you like it. Being in the US which brews a superfluous amount of NEIPAs, i get tired of them but Sierra Nevada pale ale to this day is a tremendous beer. Well done. Cheers!
In recent years we’ve had very much the same problem, some have referred to it as NEIPA-fatigue 😅 But for some reason I just never get bored of this. It’s just so consistent. Cheers!
This beer, at least for me, is one of those rare beers that has managed to reach country wide distribution here in the US without sacrificing quality. It's my go-to beer if in a go to a random restaurant practically anywhere in the country and want a good beer. Even in places with a short beer menu they are likely to have it. Most craft beers are pretty regional here since it's such a large landmass. It's hard for craft beer companies to distribute to the whole country without selling out to one of the big beer conglomerates.
I can absolutely see why, I know the craft scene has really boomed in the US over the last decade but from the outside I can’t think of any mass produced decent beer (except this) that I’m aware of. I bet this pairs very well with a lot of foods too. 🍻
@@TheCrumbyBeard Correction Bitter is a pale ale. The pale ales you have been put off are American style Pale Ales rather than English Pale Ales. Could you try Sullivan’s Malting’s Irish Ruby Ale?

You got me, I'm going to have to retry this again. I've gone years without one just because it's "everywhere," and I always feel like I have to be going for the holy grail, which for me, by the way, is cask ale. Anything on cask. It's so rare in the US! On vacation last year in the UK I stopped for (at least) a half pint of cask at as many pubs as I could. After half an hour I'd need to pop into the next pub to use the WC, and of course grab another pint of cask while at it. I love the texture and temperature of cask, but I'll admit there are a ton of great-tasting ales to be found here in the USA.
Let me know how you get on with this if you try it again! I can’t imagine living somewhere without quality cask ale - we really do take it for granted here in the UK. I love modern craft and Euro beers on keg, but that hand-pull experience is really something special when done properly. Cheers!
(My wife got to hand-pull pints working at a pub in Oxford during a semester abroad a couple decades ago, and I'm jealous.) Indeed. On the rare occasions I find cask it's all the sweeter, though. My hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan has one of the few (and the state's only) Cask Marque accredited pubs/breweries over here (Brass Ring, it's called), so when I get back there I indulge. Cheers!
Done! (Actually I went and bought a six-pack the same night I saw your video!) It is a very capable brew. I'll admit (is this cheating? I often do this, usually with IPA/Pales) I tried to make it more cask-like by getting it less cold and less carbonated/fizzy. This of course brings forward the flavor... @@TheCrumbyBeard

Oh no! It's stocked in most supermarkets now I believe so you may have better luck somewhere else. Cheers!
@@TheCrumbyBeard just got myself 4 for £7 today. 😅
It's great.
Lol its always beers I walk past and see but never buy that end up being the best
You're not the only one!
Loved the intensity of this review, MR. Crumby Beard!!! 🍺🍺🍺🍺 SN Pale Ale is the tits of all beers! CHEERS!!!
Haha thank you Angelo! My reviews either go one way or the other. Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
There porter is really good
Not a fan of it. picked it up cos I liked the design.
England can’t make s***. Well. Maybe blue cheese. Lol. Cheers from the States!
Haha, I don't know about that. Our cask ale is something the rest of the world has yet to best, but for sure your hops are unreal in comparison! The blue cheese aint bad either 😂 Cheers! 🍻
Try the Sierra Nevada Torpedo omg its amazing. It's an Extra IPA at 7.2 percent
Best beer to ever be made. If I’m bein quite honest with you
There's a good argument for it! Though there's a few German and Belgian offerings also in that mix I suspect. Cheers!
west coast pale ale at its finest.
Tried it yesterday. There are 500 belgian and german beers better than that.
They've brewed those styles too and to great success. Collaborating with a new German brewery every year.
