I’ve had an 18i20 for about 3 years now and its solid as rock. I could never justify apollo prices. An equivalent apollo with the same ins and outs would cost about $6000. Also the 4i4 is usb powered making it great for field use.
I have this model also. No issues with it and I route my mixer into it in rear inputs. Works well with routing loop back pulling in sound from window screen.
I want more about 4i4 3rd gen, very infomative and well explained. Subscription done!
Better not buy that 4i4. It will fail on you less than 2 years later
Love your presentations Mr. Mike. You've helped me understand a lot of equipment on my way to setting up my joy-filled sound lab.
Some sound engineer I was talking to from Germany said always turn that air button off and then you have the best pre amp on the market, especially that price range.
I had a Roland ua-25ex interface for a number of years and then it just died on me. Picked up the Scarlett 4i4 and have been extremely happy with it. I like that the front inputs can be mic or line/instrument. I did start having buzzing, popping, and clicking really bad and was worried that it was going the way of the ua-25ex. After doing some troubleshooting, I switched out the line out cables and boom, problem solved. Big relief. Now I'm waiting to see what the pricing will be on the new Cakewalk Sonar. Although I may just continue to use Cakewalk by Bandlab. It runs very stable on my desktop and has all the features I'll ever need. Funny that you showed the Shure sm-58. I've nsd mine for over three decades and still runs like a champ.
This is really cool because otherwise one has to use additional software to get that loop back.

Very solid review especially about the loop back feature! It’s the main reason I bought this interface but never saw a review of the feature using Logic which is my DAW of choice.

Hey John Mike!.. I love your videos especially since I just bought the scarlett 4i4 3rd gen audio interface. whenever I'm in need of some help with my 4i4 , unfortunately there isn't many videos that are showing Scarlett tutorials with the 4i4 its usually the solo or 2i2. I've noticed that it's not one size fits all. On the back of the solo or 2i2 it has the out puts labeled left and right. When I connect my studio monitors into 4i4 via TRS cables I know I need to use the output 1 for the left monitor and for right monitor that plugs into my output 2 that's directly below output 1... is that right???
