You do realize you don't have to keep the firebox absolutely full right? Wood has volatiles in it just like coal. That's all we have out here on the west-coast. It burns well. If you cram the fire box completely full, at a certain point all the wood you throw in is just going to go up the stack as smoke! Just like coal. If there's brown smoke coming out the stack, there's no cold air going up the tubes as the combustion is already running rich. Otherwise, good setup.
I agree fully, although I believe most of the rich mixture could be alleviated by running the steam exhaust through draft tubes in the boiler, a simple and efficient way to increase combustion temp, and efficiency
Minor repairs are being done but nothing more. A few period lubricators have been added. The more it is run the less it seems to be leaking steam. In the followup load test video, this is a little more apparent.
Steam engines don't have cylinder cooling, they run more efficiently when the cylinders are hot. Cold cylinders will condense the steam back into water, where it performs no work and can potentially even lockup the piston and cause damage. Also, the operating temperatures are above 100°C even when the boiler doesn't provide superheated steam, because as pressure increases it causes the boiling point to increase as well. So if we assume the boiler to be running at 80psi, then the boiling point of water is actually a bit above 150°C. If the boiler has a superheater which allows the steam to be heated separately from the water, temperatures can be significantly higher, beyond even 300°C, though I don't think this boiler is superheated.

Far more interesting than you know! This was the original power of the industrial revolution!!!
