This bring back 35 year old memories from when I studies mechanics and we restored an old two stroke 4.2 litre semidiesel Lanz. Our teacher wouldn't allow us to start it because he had a bad experience starting old engines. He weren't able to stop an engine he tested and axel to the gigantic flywheel broke and the havoc the flywheel made scared him for life. ;-)
That's a shame... to bad he didn't just think to put a fuel valve and air valve on the intake (since diesels can run away and run on the crank case oil) take one or the other way and it has no choice but to stop.
I had something similar happen with my old two stroke suzuki 500. Started up. Then turned ignition off but it kept going. I still cannot believe how many revs that thing was doing. It was deafening. Finally pulled the fuel line and it stopped. Very scary.
I think these tractors are incredible not only in the simplicity but also in their durability. But can you imagine how hard the salesman had to work to convince a farmer that had steam power or horses, "This is the future of farming!" All you need to do is shove the steering wheel into the crankcase and cross your fingers (if you're good at letting go in time) give it a turn after it has warmed up and it'll run all day long! Fantastic and beautiful, WELL DONE 👍
Grew up and still live in the United States wheat, corn, soybean, milo, etc. central plains. Don't know much about Lanz, but really fun to watch non the less, Thanks

Yes, it's a single cylinder two cycle semi-Diesel. It may be simple, but it's very labor intensive to start. Wouldn't own one if I was paid to!!
