I'm just getting into spirits at the age of 25, think I've waited long enough. Been drinking since 15 but always to a bad end, finding nightcaps to be way better and smarter than ~30 beers or a bottle of Skol. Excited to follow along! - Feel like respecting your drink is the first step toward not overdoing it.

Welcome to the world of whisk(e)y. It's a wild ride. Enjoy it by not overdoing it. Everything in moderation. Cheers!

I'm surprised by the negative comments here. I think this is a lovely whisky, especially if you consider it's a blend. A good, fresh, light summer sipper. And I have quite a collection of good single malts to compare it with.

Just goes to show you that everyone has different tastes/palates. I like it, but it's not one I reach for very much. I blew through my first bottle and this one has been on the shelf for a while with not much drain from it. Cheers!

Toki is best for cocktails in my experience (where it excels), don’t know why anyone would choose to drink it neat unless they don’t actually like whiskey

Suntory created Toki as a mixer.

It was the first Japanese whiskey I had tried. It is one of the few whiskeys I actively do not like. It almost turned me off from trying any other Japanese whiskeys, but I finally broke down and bought myself a Nikka from the barrel, which is one of my favorite whiskeys now. Interesting take on it. Makes me wanna try it again. Cheers!

Nikka From the Barrel will be reviewed in this series. Stay tuned. Absolutely revisit it and let me know if it changed. Cheers!

Trying Toki and writing off all Japanese whisky is like saying you hate Italian cars because you once rented a Fiat 500 lol. Btw Nikka FTB is not a true Japanese but blended with world whiskies.

My fiancé and I did a blind taste test today. 3 wee Cairns, 1 bottle of Scotch (Glenmorangie 10, 1 bottle of Irish (Jameson) and 1 bottle of Japanese (Toki Suntory).
I picked them based off of similarities in color and abv and thought the glemorangie tastes not so peated. I thought I would ace this test. I got Jameson right because I tasted the peated and immediately called the Toki scotch. I was blindsided in a blind taste test. I’m watching reviews now to make sure I’m not crazy. I’m glad Frieda and I aren’t the only ones who thought it was peated. 😊
Bonus: Frieda after having stated for years that Jameson was her “go to” out at a pub whisky…. On the blind taste said she didn’t like Jameson at all😅

This one is not that glamorous, but it will do for an inexpensive Japanese whisky.

For a “budget” whisky this blows most scotch and American whiskies out of the water. I get it for $30 and nothing in that range touched it, outside perhaps Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition (sometimes comes close).

one of my go tos, a three feels fair, id put it on a high 3. its just not offensive, good all around and isn't too specific, aka not too sweet too strong or too smokey

This is definitely a whisky for Highballs, which is a huge thing in Japan, AYK. Suntory really pushes that style for Toki on their website. I believe they wish to reintroduce America to its own creation, that the Japanese fell in love with. There's at least one place I know that has a Toki Highball Machine, that's supposed to give you one made to perfection. 😊

You have an eye for the multi-camera capture & edit process. I don't see it very often and I say that with YT having a near monopoly of my content consumption. I look forward to trying this whiskey as its half the price of the Hitori Japanese Harmony.

When I first started out tasing and smelling whisk(e)y I could not get anything but ethanol and I thought people were crazy when they listed off their notes. Once I broke through the ethanol wall I stared to get different notes, but only the big dominant notes like vanilla, peat, or general spice. It was not until about 8-9 months into my journey that I started to find nuances under those dominant notes. With that said...what do you get when you smell and taste whisk(e)y?

Wow! You get that much Band-Aid note on this? Interesting. I get a very slight peat note but not that much. Next time i go back to this I'll try and think Band-Aid as I have it. Have you had any Japanese whisky you liked?

@@whiskeyisajourneySuntory Hibiki is my fave. I used to drink Hibiki 17 and sometimes Hibiki 21 but then the Japanese whisky boom hit and things got crazy expensive so now Hibiki NAS but seems over priced. Toki is for the non Japan market only. I believe its to be mixed. Like for a Japanese style highball.
