Thanks for your whiskey review! I've lived in Japan for 6 years, so I've become familiar with the different brands and prices. I recently saw the Yamazaki 21 year old for ¥249,900 and the Yamazaki 12 year old for ¥45,900 at the Don Quijote across the street from my house. Also try Shochu, it's really good. Take care!
Whoa, 45,900 for 12 year!? That seems pretty steep, even with the current weak yen. I love shochu, used to drink it all the time when I lived in Japan but hard to come by a good bottle here in the States, at least where I live.
@@TheSushiMan I attended a day sake making event in Saku, Nagano last March at Kurabito Stay. We actually made sake, and it was good! So we also visited a shochu distillery. I tried Shochu for the first time. I was so smooth! I bought 6 bottles for my family when they come here to visit us in March from california..
Yamazaki 12 is about AUD$350 - AUD$400 a bottle here. Picked one up for AUD$395. I haven’t tried it yet and it was a bit of a gamble…I went off a friend’s recommendation and the flavour profile seemed to be something I like.
I am planning on purchasing the Yamazaki 12 years which costs around 160 Euros but I think it's overpriced. There is also an option to go for Yamazaki Distillery Reserve or the Hibiki which both cost around 80-90 Euros. What would be your suggestion?
Unfortunately many Japanese whiskies are overpriced nowadays. I've never tried the Distillery Reserve so I can't say but Hibiki (Harmony) is always a bottle that I go back to. Yama 12 is definitely good and a bottle that I recommend, especially if you've never tried it. However, value wise, buying two bottles of Hibiki (or Hibiki and Distillery Reserve) is probably the way to go. Let me know what you decide!
Honestly, I haven't had the regular Yamazaki much. For some reason it's not really available where I am but I remember it to be pretty good. Sorry, not much help on that one but let me know if you give it a try!
Not all Japanese whisky are good, but all of them are overpriced. lol. I still have a couple bottles of Yoichi, Taketsuru Pure Malt and Hakushu. Once I finish them, I won't buy anymore Japanese whisky.
Hibiki 21 seems to be most people's choice for favorite, for good reason
It's a phenomenal bottle.
Very informative. I would love to see a rice vinegar guide. There are so many differences which would be super cool to get a look inside of :)
Thanks! And I'll keep that in mind for future videos!
I got a bottle of the single malt Yoichi not too long ago and really liked it, not too expensive either.
Yoichi is a great bottle I agree!

Wow, it's about $160-180 USD where I live. It's a great bottle and I hope you enjoy it!
Roka Akor in SF is one of the few that has the Hibiki 30
Might need to make a stop next time I'm in SF, thanks! 😉
@@TheSushiMan Bring $$$$ if you are planning to eat and drink at Roka Akor. lol

What about Yamazaki? Thoughts?

Ao is 99.99 usd where I am. Toki 39.99. Everything else here is rare to even see now.
Wow, Ao for $100.. Not sure if it's worth that honestly. I can still find it for about $55 which I think is a fair price.
Ao is $50 at Costco.

Yes they are getting pretty ridiculous in price these days... unfortunately ☹
