Behind the Scenes at Tory Conference: Fear and Loathing

  • The Tories under Liz Truss face catastrophe - but sadly, so does the country. I've gone straight to Conservative conference to ask delegates exactly how it's all going. Brace yourselves!
Truss's attempt to slash taxes for the rich caused the markets to collapse, and despite a humiliating u-turn on the 45p rate, the government is still set to cut taxes for big business while hacking away benefits for the struggling. It hasn't gone well - the Tories' polling has collapsed, and they're set, as things stand, for a devastating election defeat. What does the grassroots think about all of this: well, wow, is all I can say...

I have now had those tax credits reduced to virtually nothing. When I spoke to the tax credits people, they said you only get working tax credits if your total household salary is under £15k.
