Finally! Something to help with my anxiety disorder. It’s a lot hard to deal with the symptoms of my adhd meds. Thank you so much! Keep up the content ❤️
Lendoz I’m only 13, I don’t got a lot of money and can’t even play online. I don’t even have a GameCube controller. But smash is an amazing game even for what I have.
Just wen to a Tourney here in PR in my college with Pink Yoshi, you sir I have to thank. Your knowledge on Yoshi and the dedication to the character is what let me to reach Semifinals on the tourney.
Banana Boy, thank you. Your videos have helped me improve so much, and now I'm on my high school eSports team for smash. Also, that Louisiana statement was facts, its so hot and humid here.
Thank you for making this since last January I had a panic attack at my first tournament. And constantly whenever I play online I feel embarrassed whenever I get bodied or losing in the dumbest way possible.
Dude, I have never commented on your videos and I think is about time I do and show my gratitude. You have literally been the reason for why I came back to play Smash, after so many years of not playing it. You are the reason for why I practice even though I don't own a switch myself, and go to gaming house in special days. You are literally the one who has been polishing my skills as I play little by little. You are the one who teaches me my while I fight sleep and tiredness on my 6 pm to 6 am shifts at work. And you are one of the many reasons for why I really want to go pro in the world of smash Ultimate. Keep doing what you do, bro. Take your time. Have a deep, relaxing breath, because what you do has a meaning, and you are a source of inspiration to me, and to many more. Thank you, and please, keep being that Yoshi player who cares about teaching others.
Banana boy I want to say that I have been watching since the start and think your content is great! Lots of these tips have been of use to me, keep up the great work!
You have no idea how badly I needed this video. I play so terribly under pressure, and hopefully I can put this to use. I’m going to my first ever tournament on Saturday, and I’ll definitely get nervous. Thank you!
Ty for the video! I needed this because I had an important tournament 1vs1 game, but I was under pressure and I didn't know how to handle it till I saw this helpfull video. I lost 2:0 and it was a shame for me and (my team I guess). But next time I will be ready for the next matchup... I swear!
ive been playing in piano recitals since i was like 6 so im very good at performing under pressure. still clicked and watched throughout the whole video. very good advice!
Your videos have so much truth in them. Thank you for taking the time to put the things that most mid to high level players know but cant put into words. These videos will raise us all up and challenge us to grow as a community. Truly, A great day to smash!
I just returned from my first ever smash Turney and got 17th out of 73 people, I'm so happy and I would have never been able to get that high without you banana boy!! I love your vids so much
Banana Boy, I really appreciate your videos dude. I'm really into the psychology and mentality of competitive smash and your videos really keep that fascination fire burning man! Keep it up!
I have a video topic Id love to see made. I have trouble with picking and counterpicking stages and what characters benefit on certain ones. If you could enlighten us on the topic thatd be awesome. Great video as always BananaBoy! Cheers!
3:43 i honestly never thought of this to help me raise my confidence right now in life things are chaotic and i feel i’m just along for the ride but those things you said sound like they’d genuinely help, sure i try to do the right thing a lot but not as much as i should i think i should help do things have nothing weighing on my back and gain control
I really think you should have widened the scope for this video, you make a very good point that applies to everything, not only Smash. Maybe you could reach a larger audience doing so.
Mkleo must have so much pressure on him whenever plays considering he’s seen as the best player in the world (which isn’t a bad thing but just imagine the pressure to stay consistent)
I know this video was posted a week ago, but I just wanna say that. YOUR VIDEOS HAVE HELPED ME IMPROVE AND BEAT MY FRIENDS AT SMASH, THANK YOU AND KEE0 UP THE WORK!
4:01 This reminds me of the time I was in the finals of my church's SSB4 tournament. It was the finals, we were playing on the big screen in the main chapel, and I had only 1-3 fans in that room that weren't family. Whenever I took a stock, hardly anything. When I lost a stock, massive uproar from the crowd. (Before you say it was character hate, my opponent was Olimar, and I was Shulk.) I won in Sudden Death, and the room was pretty much silent. It felt good in the moment that I won, but it does hurt looking back.
I would have loved this video to come out à few hours earlier since I was juste playing against the best French Mario in a weekly and that's kind of stressfull... Great video as always btw, except form the ad at the middle of course, but I wouldn't like to focus on that. Great advices 👍
I met MkLeo at UFA and I asked him about this specific topic. He told me that even if he doesn't look like he is nervous, he actually is, but he told me that he just doesn't try to fight them, he accepts that he is nervous and just focuses on the game and what his game plan is. Basically, he suggested that nerves never go away and that you shouldn't waste your time thinking about how nervous you are and just focus on the match. It is that simple, there's no magic, it has nothing to do with experience, it's just a matter of focus. Hope it helps other people just like it helped me
The biggest thing about deciding wether to play with music or not is do what you practice with. I personally play some background music when I practice so in tournament when I listen to music I tend not to notice but if you don’t ever listen to music then it might not be a good choice to do so in tourney since you won’t be used to it.
Id recommend experimenting intensively with music, it can be very benefical if you find how it effects you. The music is entirely up to the person, for example when Im in a good mood the music heightens it further and I play better, but when Im in a bad mood I play much worse with music. For me it works as extremes.
I'd like to point out that meditation is not about shutting down your thoughts. It's about allowing your thoughts/feelings to flow without being overcame by them which in turn allows you to be more in the present and have more resources in your head to focus on what is important, like winning your smash game.
From my experience, I play worse in friendlies with hype music, but then in bracket it adds to the pressure and forces me to play my best and stay focused making me play super good! ^_^
In high school and college I ran track/cross country and found that you have to literally use your nerves as fuel. Nerves never go away despite how good you get, and you can bet everyone on that starting line feels nervous before the gun goes off. But once you've come to accept the inherent pain of racing and can focus on your goal of pushing yourself those nerves change from making you want to vomit to getting out fast and not getting stuck behind the guy standing next to you. I don't think you can use nerves to somehow enhance your button presses in the same way, but you can still use it to hone your focus. A lot of low to mid level player make really dumb mistakes they would NEVER make in frendlies because of tournament nerves and I think its simply because it distracts them. Once you can tap into those nerves, you can find hyper focus, or what its called in sport psychology: Flow. If you're curious about flow here's an article: psychology.iresearchnet.com/sports-psychology/sports-emotions/sports-psychology-flow/
I got to play on Stream for the first time at like a 50 person tournament two weeks ago. The match was to get into winner's top 8. The while crowd was against me because I platform camped a Little Mac with Inkling for like 15 minutes. Like what else was I supposed to do lol.
I usually play with music in tournaments, it helps me focusing. For me, there's one more detail that helps me a lot with my nerves, and often allows me to play at a level close to my best one : it's simply remembering to have fun with the game. I know it may sound too obvious or naive or whatever, but remembering that reminds me to play defensively and observe my opponent instead of just going in and play the same neutral all the time. If I'm not in a mood of "having fun is what matters the most for me", then I'll more often get frustrated by my losses, and then blaming myself and entertaining this vicious circle of "I should have done better than what I actually did, I'm so stupid".
I need these tips. I’ve gotten pretty good lately but whenever I know I’m being watched like joining someone’s stream I immediately get nervous when I’m up and play worse than usual; then I beat myself up and get more anxious. I gotta be more confident and ignore what people WOULD say about my game
Yo I can agree with just accepting the nerves. I would fight them, and I would lose. Once I embraced the nerves that adrenaline provided I got better and won my first tournament. I also agree with the intense friendlies. If I play friendlies I tend to get less nervous and am more confident when it finally comes to pools
I live in Louisiana and honestly, i never need to warm up for tournaments now that i think of it that might be why i didnt DI out of CaptainZack's bayo combo in doubles

Me too I just posted a comment about it. When I play my hands shake which hurts my combos and that's really bad since I play falco
Honestly, I been dealing with people at my local who goes really aggressive and pressure me when I don't have any breathing room. Thank You for this.
