Thanks to your videos, I drained, flushed and balanced a 20 rad unvented system in my new house I just moved in to.
It was a mess before, cold spots and freezing rooms. All the lockshields were wide open.
Water that came out was like a cross between tea and Bovril.
Dumped 2l of x400 in and going to repeat drain down next month and inhibit the system.
    House was toasty warm tonight.
Hard day's work but immensely satisfying.
    Cheers. 👍🏻

Great vid, I have been slowly replacing my rads with vertical rads however I also incorporate a shut off valve on inlet and outlet, easy when in a bungalow so if I have a problem later I can isolate every rad or add a new rad, bit more work but worth it. Had a calamity that most will have done sometime when changing plumbing.
Just wrecked out a kitchen and moved it to a different room now lumbered with the stopcock a dead heating pipe and a mains feed pipe, went up the attic looked at the two pipes, went back down and checked the pipes again went back up an cut the wrong pipe, there was a bang an the lights went except for my head torch, another lesson learnt😄
Now cutting a gurt great hole in the floor to modify the mains pipe adding a new stopcock and a sure stop so that it's under a trapdoor in the floor...pointless filming it as there was too much dust from the whizzer! Wife now Grumpy, she was Happy before I started, she's also Sneezy but always Sleepy so I can't work until she gets up....I'm 68 and still crawling around in the damn attic....retired engineer ? Don't think so.😂

Watch until the end to find out why this video was late! Plus I've fixed where the pipes come out of the wall with a bit of multifinish! I lifted the rad to get the pipes coming out square.

Hi mate, new subscriber here. Just wanted to say thanks for the vid, I had the same issue as you regarding draining so what I bought was a Drayton X drain-off tail piece... saved a lot of hassle as the drain is now incorporated into one of the radiator tails.

    Hi James, love your work.
Your comment 16:42 about the valves on the towel rail needing a bit more tweaking to open up. I have that problem in my house, every time I’ve drained and refilled, one of my towel rails always needs some fiddling to get the valves to open. Any advice why? Even when I haven’t touched it or worked on it I have the problem. Refuses to refill and after some twiddling and swearing (and about 2 hours later) the valves decide to open.

Hi James .. having issues balancing my rads .. I noticed when you worked on the red radiator you opened lock shield 1/4 of a turn and said that`s it in its balanced position... what did you mean by that.
I was told to shut all rads and fully open the cold/problem rad first wait till hot and go towards boiler opening others ? is this correct
