    I would have loved at least one menting of Catra, since that's the one that made me go "hey, Vriska is an archetype in itself"

    • @BlenditMedia
      @BlenditMedia  3 роки тому +14

      Honestly I do not think Catra is a Vriska! She's got a lot of the same traits but since this video was written about eight months ago I've changed a few of my criteria. Glimmer is the Vriska imho.

    • @NaiadVT
      @NaiadVT 2 роки тому +14

      See, superficially Catra might *seem* like a Vriska- but in reality, Catra is a *TEREZI* and Adora is her Vriska, with some chopped-and-screwed bits between the two due to the interference of Horde Prime and Shadow Weaver (Doc Scratch and Spidermom). Adora asks the question "What if Vriska *was* heroic though" and Catra asks the question "What if Terezi got it worse from Vriska's bad adult influences?" We can see that Adora is a Vriska through the relationship to a historical/ancestral figure (Mara), and that Catra is a Terezi through her resetting of the universe in order to try and get back with Adora (Portal vs. F1X TH1S)

    a clear example is asuka from evangelion; even though the being groomed by a man part isn't entirely accurate, the rest of the vriska archetype checks out (such as being a meanie who causes problems on purpose, her comphet with shinji and, at the same time, desiring his approval as her friend)
    also heathers is a vriska too.

    I think that Ocean O’Connell Rosenberg from the musical ride the cyclone would be a Vriska
    1. (she's a dirty, nasty girl who is really trying hard to be a good person, or at the very least do what she believes is the right thing) Ocean, at least at the start of the musical, is a very mean person who does what she believes is a good thing to make her seem like a good person, ex. getting Ricky in the choir even though he couldn't speak, although as it goes on, she seems to try more and more to be a more genuinely good person
    2. (often influenced and groomed by a creepy older adult, usually a man, with his own goals for her growth) not really a grooming experience creepy old man, but she, as all the other kids, is influenced by the character Karnak, a presumably quite old machine man, fairly heavily
    3. (will often comphet on some boy) this is the only one where ocean does not compare, she has no romantic relationship with any boys in the musical
    4. (has a complicated, turbulent, and emotional relationship with Terezi Pyrope, in this case, Constance Blackwood) Ocean's relationship with Constance, her best friend is pretty bumpy at times and they only fully seem to have a better relationship near the end
    5. (they cause problems on purpose) Especially in her song, she causes many problems, it's pretty ambiguous whether or not this is purposeful, but honestly, some things she said were probably serious and thus purposeful. To add on she's a controversial character within the musical along with the fandom, ocean discourse is very similar to Vriska discourse in many ways
    6. (Oblivious) She has a very planned thinking of how the story is going to go, she sings her song and karnak brings her back to life, she also takes the other characters and their personalities at face value too and, at the start at least, does not really want nor care to look deeper than her simple views on everything
    (Sorry for how long it is)

    nami from one piece is kind of a vriska ngl. earlier nami more so, such as before/right after she joined up w/ luffy
    1. she's a dirty, nasty girl who is really trying hard to be a good person, or at the very least do what she believes is the right thing: i mean, she IS a thief and a pirate. at the start she was mainly looking out for herself (and her village). she can be mean as hell, but ultimately strives to do good
    2. often influenced and groomed by a creepy older adult, usually a man, with his own goals for her growth: literally arlong
    3. will often comphet on some boy: she does use mens' attraction towards her to her advantage. not really comphet but shes 100% a lesbian
    4. has a complicated, turbulent, and emotional relationship with nefertari vivi: ok so theyve ever gotten enemy level complicated, their relationship is definitely quite intense and emotional (ESPECIALLY during the baroque works/alabasta arc)
    5. they cause problems on purpose: she has definitely caused problems on purpose more than once
    6. oblivious: while she's definitely one of the smart ones, she has her moments sometimes. like when she thinks she can do something completely on her own and doesnt need any help, no way!!! (she is wrong)

    2 examples that are obvious Vriska's to me, even though they're both boys, are Vegeta Prince of all Saiyans(particularly his abridged iteration) and Magnus the Red for Warhammer.
    The funny thing about Mangus is that while I think he shares some actual character structure similarities, hes most like Vriska in that he fulfills the role of Vriska in the warhammer fandom. Any mention of him almost always has somebody respond with Magnus did nothing wrong and immediately a heated debate with dozens of participants will be waged. It's a massive fandom meme. Similar to how it is in Homestuck

    I think, although this might be a controversial statement, Azula from A:TLA is a good example of the Vriska.
    1. She is mean, dirty, and nasty, but trying to do the right thing. While it's unclear how much Azula is aware of her own status as a villain, she continually tries to do what she believes is the right thing: whatever Ozai approves of and requires her to do. She's not trying to be a good person, but she's trying to do what her society taught her she should be doing. Plus, i think this strikes at another good aspect of the Vriska character: someone trying to rationalize and come to terms with their own misdeeds, but unable to allow herself to atone for them, at least not out loud.
    2. Azula is very clearly being manipulated by Ozai, who tries to craft her into the perfect warrior for the Fire Nation's goals, under the pretense of him being a loving and caring father. She's frightened of what would happen if she steps out of line, as she observed firsthand what happened to Zuko.
    3. She doesn't really comphet on some boy, but there are some vibes there in regards to how she interacts with the boys on Ember Island.
    4. I would say that she has a very complicated and turbulent relationship with Mai and Ty Lee that is somewhat similar to how Vriska and Terezi's relationship plays out, though Azula seems to be more willing to directly manipulating Mai and Ty Lee's friendship with her than Vriska ever is with Terezi. Azula seems unable to accept Mai and Ty Lee as friends, despite her lack of any real connections or friendships with anyone else.
    5. I mean, obviously she causes problems on purpose. I don't need to explain the plot of ATLA to you.
    6. In some ways, Azula is incredibly intelligent. She's a firebending prodigy and a master in war strategy, who is unafraid to break a few eggs to make an omelette. However, her social growth and maturity has been incredibly stunted due to being groomed into her role from a very young age, and she has very little social awareness, aside from when it comes to what she's been taught to do: manipulate. See also, Ember Island.
    Also, she's a controversial, manipulative female character, which seems to be the basis for all major characters that fall under the Vriska archetype. She's much more explicitly a villain than Vriska, but, like Zuko, she clearly has much more depth than a pure one-dimensional villain.

    I feel like Heather from Total Drama is at least Vriska adjacent, while she wasn't unassuming at the beginning (and not groomed that we know of), she is doing what she does for a goal in mind, gets messy throughout her stay, and has those complicated relationships with multiple people (Harold/Alejandro for #2 and Courtney/Gwen for #3)

    Pearl gets 4 out of 6 points.
    She is missing 2 and 5. For this character, I try to go from more of a pettiness and keeping a constant self-image causing problems standpoint rather
    than an on-purpose standpoint. the thing Vriskas get when they try so hard to be a mind fang and keep that image.

    Chloe Bourgeois Vriska real..?

    • @shale8385
      @shale8385 2 роки тому

      I've been thinking so! Chloe's actually the one who led me to this checklist. ML tried to create a "popular rich girl" antagonist, but pushed it too far and instead got a pathetic, awful girl trying desperately to be seen as a hero. Her only "friends" are Sabrina, who she constantly orders around and bullies, and Adrien, who she flirts with out of compulsion but who will never like her back. She hates Marinette while simultaneously loving Ladybug, idolizing her and even roleplaying as her to feed her hero complex. However, when given the chance she will always cause problems and plays the villain more often than not. A lot of this is due to Astruc and the other writers having very different ideas of what Chloe should be, and while I was annoyed that they never forgave her, her current character status is also fascinating.

    Hmm, I think my fanfic Persona: The Beautiful has two of them, my OCs Melissa and Kikuko:
    1 - Yep for both of them
    2 - Melissa does have a grooming experience with an older woman, though I left it fairly ambiguous. Kikuko would have the influence of her father and the character Azuma (who's the same age as her, but otherwise counts)
    3 - Yes for Melissa (also with Azuma), Kikuko doesn't exactly but would say she's hetero to fit in with society
    4 - Yes for both of them, with each other and with the protag
    5 - Another yes for both of them
    6 - Yet another yes, more so for Melissa than Kikuko
