Ableton Chord Generator - Tutorial (Using Scale and Chord Devices)

Walkthrough a method for using Ableton's Scale and Chord MIDI devices to assign specific chord qualities (major/minor) to chords within your track's key. This is great if you want to quickly test out chord progressions by simply dragging single notes (chord roots) around the piano roll in Ableton.

In this tuturial walkthrough, I'll create multiple device chains. Each device chain will contain a Scale MIDI device and a Chord MIDI device. The Scale device is used to selectively filter which notes can pass through to be built as a chord on that specific device chain. Then the Chord device builds the chord (maj9, triad, etc.).
By combining MIDI devices like this on individual device chains in Ableton Live, you can generate chords from nothing more than a single note on the piano roll in your MIDI clip.
