When Ange came in, Spurs had just finished 8th. The squad was a mess. They lost Harry Kane, completely changed the playing style and Ange moved them up to 5th. He’s massively overhauled the squad, and is changing the culture behind the scenes as well if you listen to interviews with back room staff. Spurs have wasted a lot of money on poor transfers the last few years, but now there’s much better alignment between Ange and the new leaders at the club (Lange and Munn). With the money from the new stadium going to more intelligent transfers, I think Spurs have bright years ahead under Ange.
Jack nailed it in the end, this Spurs team can run through anyone on their day. If they’re playing at their best there isn’t much you can do but defend like prime Stoke. Issue is consistency and translating this dominance into wins over low blocks. So fun to watch nonetheless, keeping the PL alive.
it's the purity of the football I enjoy the most and you can see that the players do too .. especially when it works in their favour. It's high intensity effort so it's all in, all the time.. else it backfires.
I've got an intuition that they'll have a polar opposite season to last season where they started well but tanked post Xmas to this time not having a good first half of the season but finishing much better in the second half of the season January onwards. They ended last season with quite a bit of a negative feeling due to how poorly they ended the season. I think this season they'll be a team that grows into the season & sees it out in a much better shape
Of course Spurs should be better. Their problem is consistency, but what is apparent is that under Ange Spurs have the capacity to beat anyone. When they find their consistency, they'll be unstoppable.
I was going to listen to this, but now that I'm on a Tottenham high I dont want to hear any potential negativity. Highest ceiling and lowest floor of any team, that's all there is to it
Buying young players at the start of the build is the right approach... Add "ready made, right now" players as that younger generation is reaching maturity... Tottenham are age profiling the right way 👍
Top scorers in the league Conceded the same amount of goals as Chelsea & City Knocked City out of the League Cup Won 3 out of 4 Europa League matches 3 points off third place 2 set-piece goals conceded all season I don't think things are as bad as what people think.
People really underestimate the mess Ange walked into. An ageing and very very average squad and team that was being kept vaguely competitive by Harry Kane who promptly left. We were 8th and looked like we could keep heading downwards.
I find the commentary weird. They start by saying Spurs' underlying numbers are really good, including defensively but then describe how they are too open. There never seems an attempt to match the perception of Spurs to their actual performance. According to this Arteta has created a ruthless defensive style that helps them bridge the gap but they're only 1.1 xga better defensively. Make it make sense.
I know what he's saying about Liverpool signing Van Dijk and Alisson. Big money for top players. But at the time they were both huge risks. LFC's data said they could step up but remember. Van Dijk had not played for a top team or at Champions League level. And Alisson had one full season of playing in Europe at Roma before LFC paid huge money for him. Maguire and Kepa were similar position big money signings at the time and didnt work out. So its always a risk.
@@Gooner184the parallels are all there. They signed for the two biggest clubs, they were both record signings at the time for their position, both had prem league experience but not with a top club, both played better for country then club back then, etc. It’s just that Liverpool did their scouting well and United didn’t. That’s the difference.
@@cyn1clcynide Basically what the squad quality is like. The obsession with being 10th is a bit ridiculous. Johnson puts his head near the overhead kick and Solanke's hand doesn't touch the ball against Ipswich and spurs are 3rd
Ange is worth giving time. He will turn it around and if not it's still better then watching anything Spurs post Poch. I can't see why they wouldn't give him time to build the team. It's not like Spurs are expected to win anything soon... or ever.
If you watch them play out of the back for example, it looks like they drill that stuff heavily. And the game looks like a drill too. Even if they do lose possession in those positions 1 out of 5 times, that number goes down the more practice they have. It seems clear that Ange wants to train them to be mentally comfortable under pressure. Pragmatism is great for the big must-win games but if that’s all you ever do, you never operate under real pressure. Trust the process❤
Two problems in our Spurs team: experience and mentality. They’re not performing consistently; better against big teams than small, which suggests a lack of concentration in some games and an unwillingness to run. This team needs more experience either through time or incoming transfers. Same potentially with mentality. Only then will Angeball work properly. When they show intensity every game and know it well enough to problem solve for themselves.
Spurs must be better by now. I am not expecting them to win the league but we could try to win Carabao,FA cup or Europa league. We should not have any problem beating the bottom half teams but that's not the case
Football is an art, not a science. How you get your shot as well as how you concede one is just as important as how many you get and concede. Not every teams 2 minutes of possession is the same - some are more useful than others etcetra etcetra. People need to understand this.

58 games is absolutely no time at all in football and that's all Ange has had with what is now one of the youngest and newly assembled squads in the league. I'm reserving my judgement until we've had at least 100 games with the coach and had a few summers to develop the squad. All the signs are there that we can be a great team, but there's still holes in the squad which are disrupting our seasons under Ange.
It is funny to watch this in hindsight of a 4-0 win against the reigning champions at their home ground. The comparison to Arsenal is laughable since Arteta has been at it for a while, has a larger budget and their latest win was not Carabao Cup in 08.
