The deep intelligence of Sony engineers and their experience in the field of cameras makes most people not understand these many features and they are not appreciated. This is the smartest camera in a phone that I have seen in my life . Steve Jobs was a fan of Sony cameras, and I remember that Steve Jobs used to visit Sony factories and meet senior Sony engineers with the aim of improving iPhone cameras, and let's not forget also that Tim Cook also went there to see the new Sony sensors ..It's a shame that Sony is underestimated because of some UA-camr who throws bad words about Sony cameras because he likes another product or doesn't know how to use this camera.

@@SomeGadgetGuy exactly. We are on the 5th generation of this device and Sony has only added more camera features. But from a basic platform, they have expanded since the mark I. I see these reviewers every year giving basically the same reviews and doing "camera tests" in full auto all the time. It's just pointless to me. They know it's a niche phone, yet they treat it like a pixel, iphone, or galaxy. Either way, I'm happy there are a few niche reviewers who actually review these devices to their fullest extent

In less than a month, the xSperia 1 Mark 5 has became the standard for photography and videography.
I saw all the videos here on YT criticising Sony for the excessively complex camera app; I've been a professional photographer in the film era, and the Mark 5 has been the first phone where I have the possibility to use all the experience I have as photographer. I can only imagine why non-professionals are calling for a dumbed-down experience - like the Apple-Samsung-Google photo app provides to casual users.
    Well done, Sony...

I'm so happy they brought seamless zoom. (could be smoother but it's fine) That was one weird thing I didn't like about the last phone - you had to pick your lens before shooting "like a _real_ camera."
But that's whats cool about a phone as opposed to a dslr, I don't have to "switch lenses." They are all there and should be able to all go at once if I really want.
It opens up more possibilities - my LG V30 had a mode that shot with the selfie cam in the corner of the frame, so you can do a vlog style video right from the camera app itself.

With Filmic going subscription, it's nice to have the option of a phone with similar levels of control (though still not exactly there with color and exposure granularity in shot) and similar features like focus peaking and racking, better mated and optimized to the hardware.
It still irks me how any company can give you a video mode where you CANNOT tap to focus or expose for fully a third of your frame and think that's job done. Almost ANY aftermarket solution is better. But they often don't have access to the full range of resolutions and frame rates of the phone.

I get that a simple point and shoot experience is easier but I don't get why people say Sony camera apps is convoluted. Did people forget learning exist? Obviously there's the simple camera app for everybody else to use. Ofc the debate between cameras and phones exist but nobody would bring a kilogram worth of cameras every time. But having similar controls to a camera is very useful especially when you want to adjust a setting or two. Would've been nice if they can add it to their apps like any others do but it may cause some unnecessary changes. It's a learning curve but it will help you get used to camera terms and settings when you do go cameras.

I know it's a smartphone but it's basically a camera in a phone. How is it any different from other camera phones like the Xiaomi 13 Ultra or the Vivo X90 Pro Plus. It's basically those two without too much computational photography. Instead of the phone taking over, you are the driver. You set destination, you set your gears and your off to your destination. But all people want is a free ride. I'm not saying the Xperia is a perfect phone but if they really want to review this as another generic device, what exactly are they telling their customers?

Thanks - been a while since I used a 'proper' camera, so useful to get a quick run down. Have been baselining with what it can do in basic modes, but might get adventurous with some video tomorrow. Wish me luck ;-)

By the way, what stylus are you using in the video? It looks quite excellent 👌👍

An OLD wacom. Unfortunately discontinued now. Other powered capacitive pens SHOULD work though.

Hello, what kind of pencil stylus are you using? Seems the Xperia 1 V screen does handle it like a real one!

Thanks for this video! I’m more of a pro sports photographer and I’m thinking of getting this phone.
Have done any videos on using this camera with like and a74 or A1? Or any Alpha cameras between these models.

On my Xiaomi Mi 11 ultra I can only use HDR in normal/auto mode but you when make any ev adjustments it totally ignores them, when hdr is enabled. Normally the exposure is alright. But often when humans are in the picture, it over exposure too much, and lowers the contrast to much when hdr is on. Do you have some exposure controls when hdr or dro is enabled on the Sony?

Do I need a ND filter for outside? I tried to record video outside at a wedding and resorted to using the pixel camera app. It seems to be similar to my ZV1 but I was wondering if there is a feature that makes it possible without one.

The downside of having three separate apps is that it consume more internal storage space than a single Camera app. However, the upside to it is that each app can be perfectly tailored to its intention. If I want 21:9 4K, I go CinemaPro. If I want 16:9 4K, I use VideoPro. If I want Alpha-grade manual control, I use PhotoPro. Of course you can cram everything into the single Camera app, but it can end up being all cluttered and messy.

Absolutely fantastic video and break down. I really have no patience or time anymore for UA-cam "tech reviewers" who act like they just can't figure out the camera system. Or they literally are incapable of doing so. As you say they are simply displaying that they are not good at either photography or tech. I'm no tech guru by any stretch if the imagination and I figured out the Xperia camera system after a few hours of playing around with it.
Far too many UA-cam "tech reviewers" literally don't know how anything works outside of an iphone. But that just means they know nothing. And are thus a waste of my time. Why on earth would I take photography advice about any device from someone that only knows how an iphone works? That would be like me getting advice on high performance cars from someone that only knows Volkswagen cars. Just utterly asinine.

It kills me every time one of them complains about something basic on an XPERIA, but then shows off their cinema grade mirrorless camera to shoot CRISPY b-roll... K... 🙄

    • @Sabundy
      @Sabundy Рік тому +1

@@SomeGadgetGuy great point. Not only do most of them film their videos on mirrorless cameras.....they do so on Sony Alpha cameras!. So it's even more baffling. But imho it's by design. I believe they have a financial incentive to essentially do FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) marketing on other brands that are not Apple or Samsung. They did this all the time with LG phones too...
