I love Sony because they keep the 3.5mm jack and sd card slot.. maybe I will stick with Sony forever. A lot of reviewers say this is the best Xperia made by Sony this makes me love sony more. 🤭
I also love xperia and I strongly agree it’s getting better but they also starting to remove some og features like the led notification light. That makes me sad and wonder, what could be next? Microsd slot? Headphone jack? ❤️🩹
I have both phones s23 ultra and Xperia 1v I wanted to say something important The Xperia 1 v display highest brightness than s23 display in door when you watching movies or playing games only out door the s23 ultra a little higher Also the speakers in the Xperia clearer and more bass The most important thing for me, which makes me choose Xperia 1 v is the the weight and Comfortable in the hand iPhone 14 pro 206 gram Iphone 14 pro max 240 gram S23 ultra 234 gram Xperia 1 v 187 gram can't believe how sony it was able to put a 5000 battery and a 6.5 screen and found the space to put sd card slot and 3.5 jack !
and you dont have anyone from this 2 phone, you just dream, also you can use usb-c like 3.5mm slot.. so stupid things when all use wireless headphones , also memory card slot is waste of time and space on phone who have minimum 256gb space, i have more than 6000 videos and pictures, 400+ songs, 60 + aplication and have free 150gb on my s23 ultrA 256GB..
Sony won in most of the tests but the only thing I preferred on the Samsung was the color warmth of the camera, the sound of the front a rear cam, the pen, and the more premium look due to the squared-off design. But my next phone will be the Sony because I need my SD card slot. Can't give that up. I love my Note 20 Ultra and will hold onto it as long as possible but when upgrade time comes whoever has the SD card slot will get my money.
Now all they need is people who actually support/buy their products. They are absolutely dying interms of revenue on the phone market, absolute 0% revenue. You get 1% better hardware performance and an awful software support with twice the price.
i got the note 10 plus. and ic checked the s23 ultra and did not see any reasons to buy it. plus the price tag for a camera which i am not a Fan of brings me to no chance to waste money. 😊. note 10 plus is sleek and comfortable easily fits in pocket as well. bit a bumpy camera and thickness. it vl nvr fit in pocket.
@@basicallytroll2705I have the Sony Xperia 1 II which is an old phone now but I won't be buying another Sony phone I don't think. The SD card, headphone jack and 4K display are nice to haves, but they don't outweigh the downsides. The vibration strength is piss poor meaning I often miss notifications, the torch is also piss poor (a candle can shine brighter than this thing) but the real killer is the 21:9 aspect ratio. I don't watch movies on my phone so the only content I watch is YT video's which 90% of them are 16:9 ratio. Which means if you're watching content the screensize is actually really small with vertical black bars at either side OR you can zoom in to fill the screen, but because it's true 21:9 it crops waay more of the picture than every other phone on the market does. Since the majority of media consumption I do on my phone is with 16:9 content it's really annoying to have a 21:9 phone.
I have pre-ordered the Sony on the basis that it generally won't overheat like last year's model. But Sony should really look at its environmental rating and guarantee more updates for this generation of phones, and onwards to increase lifespan.
I disagree, the target audience for this device are techies who upgrade their phone every year or 2. The people reading this post will not even keep their S23 for 5 years, the OS update guarantee is more of a marketing gimmick than anything.

Few things making me consider selling my S23 Ultra 12GB/1TB for the Xperia 1 V 12GB/512GB is that the Sony doesnt have curved screen, has headphone jack, has expandable memory and slimmer profile. The 2 main things which made me not get the Sony is that Aftersales in Indonesia is non existant and it is super super super difficult to get Sony accessories.
my father loves Sony phones. so do I. he's been using a Sony Xperia xzp till now. he decided to buy a new phone, no other brands matches his taste except iPhones but they're way too expensive until he sees a Sony Xperia 10 v. he immediately fell in love with it. he likes it a lot. good thing there's also a big discount. he bought it without questions. he loves the phone.
I've been used this phone since III version, now I have IV version and I still love it, for me it is the perfect phone in special when you like the photography and videography, the camera color reproduction, these lens, that 21:9 4K HDR10 120Hz wide-screen, the sound quality (don't forget 35mm), no bugs, pure Android experience, the native photo and video apps, the stereo speakers and quality are insane to create a great audiovisual products but is true, no a lot people pay attention on this features so I guess that was the first problem why Sony doesn't scaled up the market of phones, for me this is the first high end Sony phone created to do that, probably I'll get one of them and to be honest I love a lot the heat problem was fixed, that was a great news about this phone series.
i love sony but i heard and seen test where xperia 1 V is realy slow to charge , still better than 5 IV . Plus 21:9 is a fun aspect ratio , its makes the phone realy sexy but in practice its kinda useless , i would prefer something more wide. SD card + jack is fantastic . I don't know , i will probably get the samsung

With the same ram and processors sony will always win because they are closer to android stock instead of the stupid Samsung overlay taking some of the power away. Sony is better in almost every way. I still have a One III. Ill probably be ready to upgrade by the time the VI comes. Hopefully it keeps minor or major improvements by then without losing in any area down the road, as sometimes happens from gen to gen.
Don't forget that Samsung boasted about a slightly overclocked version of the 8 Gen 2 in the S23 range. Looks like it didn't make much of a difference.
The main problem with Sony, is their updates. 2 years of major OS updates is just not an option for many. At this moment, Samsung wins hands down because of that. Buying a flagship smartphone is an investment, and loosing updates after ONLY 2 years is laughable for a 1400$ device. I have iPhone 11 series from 2019 and will receive updates until 2024, meanwhile Sony would give up on my device 2 years ago. This is a serious problem for many.
Android updates are not really necessary, the only necessary thing is security patches. All Google apps will update on it for 6-7 years, like gboard, messages, phone etc.
Sony was always gonna win the gaming and apps section along with the screen quality being a mostly gaming centred company, tho I preference the Samsung's overall quality enhancements as I don't buy phones for gaming.
As a loyal Sony fan I had to get the s23 ultra since Sony withdrew from South Africa. But not surprised Sony is still better and more user friendly. Hope they will return
@@juanpabloperez9063 that doesn't make a UI user-friendly. Otherwise, Google would have been the top seller. Sony's android one can't just match the smoothness and fluidity of One UI.
this year Sony did it's best phone, all they needed were just minor improvements, design is better, very comfortable in the hands, and headphone jack saves you at least 100$ on headphones
My big gripe about Sony is they tend to have issues and it’s the software support the price and since they aren’t that popular how much support will they get with accessories I rather stick to a phone that has support all the way around who know how long Sony will keep making phones
Lol they’ve been making phones for a long f**king time 😂 wdym? I had a Xperia when the iPhone 3 and 4 was around here we are and they’re still making phones. Their main money making is PlayStation so they’ll continue to make TVs, phones, Consoles, games, Audio peripherals and cameras forever. If anything they’ve made more money now than ever so I doubt they’ll just abandon their phones. This isn’t Microsoft Windows phone 🤮 The Xperias are gorgeous and better internals than the iPhone pro and Samsung galaxy lines. They just need to do better marketing them and better with software/support them for a longer period of time but again that’s because it’s a very niche product.
8:18 Samsung can be louder, but Sony has better sound quality. 9:38 Sony better, cause if you add a cover on top of the screen you will not be unlocking your samsung anymore.
I love sony phones and their more natural looking photos but im not into complicated camera system and it’s too tall for my liking, especially some apps doesn’t support it. And im really sad that they let go the led notification light. That’s a big turnoff for me.

@7:08 what are you saying about the speakers here? The Sony has 2 front facing speakers, where are they? Is the Galaxy's speakers on the bottom and through the earpiece speaker?
Apparently Sony only offers 2 years of Android OS upgrades vs 4 years for Samsung. I film with a smartphone gimbal and I am concerned about the Sony side-mounted fingerprint reader. The gimbal clamp will likely cover the fingerprint reader, making it harder to unlock the phone in use
I love Sony phones very much, but unfortunately they are no longer available in our region. I still have old Sony phones such as Z3, Xperia go and others. Thank you for this wonderful comparison. Greetings
@@d3r3x18 than explain to me how not having 3,5mm jack (not Sony it have fortunately), no expandable storage and narrower screen that suitable only for 21:9 video and smaller battery because of that helps user and making it modern ? If it had 18:9 screen with same length, 21:9 video would've been as good, but there will be much better 16:9 standard ratio experience. Thats why 18:9 is good, it give you best of both. I went to best buy today and bought the s23 ultra. It's a good phone and has some pretty neat features. But I've been looking for a business phone alongside my iPhone 14 PM. I thought this phone would blow me away but it hasn't yet. Of course I can customize everything and do more stuff. However, my iPhone 14 PM is louder and even though the screen on the galaxy is amazing including the resolution. I would rather get the Sony Xperia. I couldn't pre order it last night because the site was down. So I went to the store and picked up an s23 just to check it out. They gave me 60 days to use it and I can return it and just pay a $45.00 restocking fee. But I'm going to switch because I went on 2 different WIFI's and the resolution was only capped at 480p every time, and I had to change it manually. If the phone can't do something that simple, I don't want to mess it with for any longer. Had the s23 for not even a full day and I'm going to return it in the morning.
In the long run you'd wish back on these comments. The 23U will only get better with updates. And if anything the 24U around the corner will be devilish
Side-by-side, you can clearly see how wider mobile screen affects the size of everything you are viewing. The difference in the screen width here is barely a few millimeters, but the resulting picture looks almost 20% larger!
Looking at the LTPO display flickering on the Samsung. Now I know why Sony chose not to use LTPO even though they can. They rather sacrifice little more battery than making their phone display flicker like that . Also , love their speaker sound quality! This is a real powerhouse !
@@bloodytoad2010The Sony 1V is having reported auto brightness screen issues and screen lag and even ghost gesturing. Just look it up for yourself. Sony can always be relied on for software glitches and bugs. Hopefully an update can rectify these problems, but give me Samsung software any day.
As for the battery life test, the Sony Xperia has a much higher bitrate (more data is processing so more battery is gonna drain) on the Samsung Galaxy the higher bitrate Option has to be activated in the settings. Was it activated?
Sony doing as well as it did in the performance show down given how many more pixels it has to push is very impressive. I have a 1 IV and can’t wait to upgrade to the V to get better heat management. The IV is a wonderful phone but I can’t deal with the constant overheating!!!
I've been using only Sony phones since 2005 (Walkman W550i) and been going from one model to another and now at 1 V. 19 years so far and they never let me down. But overall all top phones are great, but Xperia 1 V is much better for pro photographers and videographers especially for using the 1V natively as a pro monitor and recorder for my Sony alpha cameras when it's raining or dusty vs pro monitors that are exposed and not water/weather resistant.
So far the Sony wins as it looks like it has head phone jack and SD card. Honestly sony phones made me like Android more then iPhone buy got with a s10e because I couldn't afford a Sony phone but the s10e is still better then IPhone
We live in Oregon USA and have AT&T and I have been with Samsung since S3 - have the S10 International Version which I use in USA and Thailand. It appears that my S9 from At&T pick up AT&T towers faster than S10. I do not want to give up the headphone jack or SD memory, so I must choose either Motorola or Sony. (Our 1st cellphone was Motorola bag phone) Question. Will the Sony Xperia 1 V international version work well in the USA on AT&T? Or should I only buy the USA version? Thank you for your help?
See you did the Xperia 1, just wondering what are you thought on the Xperia 5? Have they sorted the heating issues on that model? I have always been a Samsung man and if continued with that would get the S23+. Be interesting if you did a comparison of those 2 phones, the S23+ and Xperia 5.
I do plan to get the 5 V when that's announced, I don't expect that to have significant heating issues. unfortunately though won't be getting the S23+, but I'll likely compare 5 V to the 1 V.
SONY is a high-quality Japanese electronics company. Users of old Japanese domestic goods will find the quality better than Korean and Chinese goods. Audiofile people and wedding photographers in the village also do not use Korean goods, train goods because of the quality of materials such as wires, capacitors, optical glass ... of the ship, Han was too bad to fool the professionals. I am using SONY A7Rii, Zeiss lens, Sony Zeiss combined solution with Xperia I. feels great.
I'll choose Samsung. 0.5 - 1 second of game loading screen time difference doesn't mean much when you're getting more updates, 100x zoom, better camera, and the s pen. I have an S22 ultra and I'm happy with it, I might upgrade to S24 ultra later when it gets released tho. To each their own ig
Well... The Sony has micro SD slot, jack 3.5, 4k 21:9 display, it's lightweight and easy to grip Depends on preference With that said, why would you update your s22 ultra so soon?lmao +1000$/€ phone should last you years ahead I'm here rocking with a Samsung S8+ and I wonder if I should update to S24 or wait a bit more 😂 *nice contrast*
Actually I changed from s23 Ultra to Sony mainly because of size and weight of the phone. Regarding your comments: 100x "useless" zoom :D, camera = depending what you are looking for (natural looking - Sony, artificially improved looking - Samsung), s-pen is good to have feature.
115 hours it's not more than Samsung and Xperia doesn't run 4K it runs at FHD+ most of the time, 4K is used on UA-cam and some other apps which supports it, but yes 120hz all the time, Sony is a great phone but not for simply customer, they aim with their phones for more advanced users, as the pro app is insane and movie pro app is just from another planet, you can see videos on yt made by this phone, no Samsung or iPhone can match Sony's 4K120fps with that insanely high bitrate
I personally prefer Sony coz it's design is always been unique, simple but elegant and the rest of the specs:) Thank you for your specs comparison Bro, it really helps us still deciding which brand to buy. God bless.
I've just got the Sony still in the honeymoon period and already missing my s23 ultra. Sony gets very warm under normal everyday tasks and the battery drains quickly only just size i like
hopefully still time to return if you don't like it. personally i didn't have overheating or battery drain issues, so i'm not sure if it's your unit or the tasks you're doing (sounds like it may be the former, though).
why does one screen (the samsung) have a noticeable flickering and the sony doesn't? is that somerhing about the screen tech? really appreciate your videos btw!
yeah it's not visible like that in person (only on camera), but has something to do with how Samsung refreshes their screens. still better to not have as much flickering regardless of whether it's visible to the human eye, though.
It's because Samsung uses PWM dimming to lower brightness. The only issue about PWM is that some people might feel headache while using the phone at night due to the flicker. Many other new phones uses a better tech called DC dimming. In Sony, the panel uses a hybrid PWM+DC dimming so no flicker issue.
To be honest Sony is a very niche phone They are not a better pick than iphone nor samsung for beginners But still a very sweet enthusias phone that i am using right now Gotta say thank a lot to this phone i kinda slowly but surely improving my manual adjustment for photography I think i will be ready very soon to buy the sony nex7 camera very soon thanks to this sony phone A great companion tbh
Thank you..awesome review I would like to purchase the device through Amazon or the official Sony website Will you fill the phone as required in terms of updates?
I used to be a long term sony user. I switched to samsung mainly due to their stability in terms of software, since I've noticed an increased amount of bugs appearing in sony phones after like 5 years of usage. Don't get me wrong, sony builds amazing phones, however, samsungs functionalities appeal to a broader audience, which you simply don't get from the xperia due to it being a niche product
I'm a long term sony user too but switched recently to s22 ultra, though I think I'll go back to sony in the future because my s22 ultra recently has this issue with white bar on top right in the notification area and the greenish bleeding on right half of the screen. This is not an isolated case and many has reported it (you can look it up, 'white bar screen issue') even in the samsung website. It just happened to me after the recent update last September 2023 but some had already experienced it like back in April or before. This issue can be temporarily fixed if you turn off the motion smoothness to 60hz but there is still minor visible color difference from left to right half of the screen, even when you turn off and on, the screen it blinks white on the top part. Some say the screen needs to be replaced because of hardware issue but most of the users are out of their warranty and Samsung refused to replace the screen for free like $500 for a replacement, when it's not clearly an isolated case. I've read in some sites that Samsung service centers insist that the phones were dropped that caused it. Some said it's a software issue. But yeah most of the users who experienced it cannot use the 120hz adaptive motion smoothness without having that bleeding white/green on the right or left part of the screen. So basically it becomes a useless feature that should've been one of the selling point of a flagship phone. I'll just wait for my s22 ultra to die down or probably after 2 more years then I'll switch back to sony xperia.
@Lionspel to be honest, I'm gonna switch back to Xperia as well (once my current Samsung phone gets old) but I haven't experienced any issue with my screen whatsoever. There's no visible white bar nor is there a color difference present. However, I experienced major issues with 3rd party software downloaded from the Play Store (UA-cam for example). Samsung's own software works just fine, but some 3rd party apps appear to have a lot of bugs: Scrolling issues, inconsistent layouts, unintended inputs/taps... you name it. Ironically enough, my xperia had the exact opposite going on. It worked really well with 3rd party software but for some unknown reason the OS itself started to show unusual behavior. It would randomly turn off Wi-Fi, go into standby mode without me pressing the power button or even turn off for good without proper warning. Factory resetting the phone didn't help and I ruled out the presence of malware, too. Despite the problems with downloaded apps from the play store, issues with hardware/software from samsung remains to be seen in the future. I really hope that sony fixes the ocurring long term issues by the time I buy a new Xperia. (And yes, the buttons on samsung are a bit finicky for me as well) I currently own the A52s btw
I can clearly see one thing all these years. That's sony is bit expensive but that's the only branded smartphone company who really cares about their customer needs. All other brands like Samsung apple etc they drive us with their rules with what they want. The best example is removal of headphone jack and micro sd card. Love you sony!
yes removing the headphone jack is to get people to buy wireless earbuds, and removing the microSD is to get people to buy larger storage options or cloud data. love having options on Sony.

The 2 main things which made me not get the Sony is that Aftersales in Indonesia is non existant and it is super super super difficult to get Sony accessories.
and there is a SD card slot in the Sony phone
Yes, I would as well but same situation as you here in Philippines and there's literally no physical store here. 😢
S23 Plus: Hello!
Welcome to the internet where all the Sony accessories are available for global shipping.😊
my father loves Sony phones. so do I. he's been using a Sony Xperia xzp till now. he decided to buy a new phone, no other brands matches his taste except iPhones but they're way too expensive until he sees a Sony Xperia 10 v. he immediately fell in love with it. he likes it a lot. good thing there's also a big discount. he bought it without questions. he loves the phone.

The main problem with Sony, is their updates. 2 years of major OS updates is just not an option for many. At this moment, Samsung wins hands down because of that.
I had a Xperia when the iPhone 3 and 4 was around
here we are and they’re still making phones.
Their main money making is PlayStation so they’ll continue to make TVs, phones, Consoles, games, Audio peripherals and cameras forever. If anything they’ve made more money now than ever so I doubt they’ll just abandon their phones.
This isn’t Microsoft Windows phone 🤮
The Xperias are gorgeous and better internals than the iPhone pro and Samsung galaxy lines.
They just need to do better marketing them and better with software/support them for a longer period of time but again that’s because it’s a very niche product.

Actually I changed from s23 Ultra to Sony mainly because of size and weight of the phone. Regarding your comments: 100x "useless" zoom :D, camera = depending what you are looking for (natural looking - Sony, artificially improved looking - Samsung), s-pen is good to have feature.
Sony has no Ltpo and has a 4k display 120hz running all the time yet still has more battery life span, still loads games and apps faster
I'm not sure if it overall has better battery since the camera test was in 1080p on both screens, but regardless in some scenarios it does
115 hours it's not more than Samsung and Xperia doesn't run 4K it runs at FHD+ most of the time, 4K is used on UA-cam and some other apps which supports it, but yes 120hz all the time, Sony is a great phone but not for simply customer, they aim with their phones for more advanced users, as the pro app is insane and movie pro app is just from another planet, you can see videos on yt made by this phone, no Samsung or iPhone can match Sony's 4K120fps with that insanely high bitrate
i gotta be honest, i lovo how narrow and tall the xperia is, having more screen readability in my apps is cool

why does one screen (the samsung) have a noticeable flickering and the sony doesn't? is that somerhing about the screen tech?
really appreciate your videos btw!
yeah it's not visible like that in person (only on camera), but has something to do with how Samsung refreshes their screens. still better to not have as much flickering regardless of whether it's visible to the human eye, though.

Also, the power button of s22 ultra feels loose.
(And yes, the buttons on samsung are a bit finicky for me as well)
I currently own the A52s btw
Funny, long ago I had a Xperia Neo V, used to love that thing

I can clearly see one thing all these years. That's sony is bit expensive but that's the only branded smartphone company who really cares about their customer needs. All other brands like Samsung apple etc they drive us with their rules with what they want. The best example is removal of headphone jack and micro sd card. Love you sony!
yes removing the headphone jack is to get people to buy wireless earbuds, and removing the microSD is to get people to buy larger storage options or cloud data. love having options on Sony.
@@PhoneBattles that's what I'm saying. Sony is the only one smartphone company who really cares about what we need. Others are just driving us with their desires.
