Good to know! Have bought mine for almost a year. It's incredible indeed! I didn't even have serious expectations before buying it, it's been a pleasant surprise.
I have the forerunner 55 my only issue is now I’m more hybrid than when I started so I’d like better analytics for multi sport like cycling and suggested workouts that aren’t just running etc looking at fenix 7 pro or epix pro gen 2 idk 🤷🏻♂️
Glad you mentioned run commuting in this! Having a fulltime job and a young family at home means a traditional running plan is out the window for me, but by running to and from work 3-4 days a week means I can get the majority of my mileage in ready for a long run/event at the weekend.
I've had my Garmin 55 for over 3 years now and it works brand new. I only take it off to charge (which is like every 2 weeks). I own a farm and am ROUGH with this watch. This thing is sturdy, reliable, and had all you need for running. Love this watch and reccomend it to everyone!
For more minimalist runners who just want to see distance, time and pace I recommend Garmin FR 45. Very very minimal features, but you can definitely do all your basic runs with this, and it's dirt cheap!
My local sporting goods store always has previous generation Brooks shoes on sale. I got into running with a pair of ghost 14's for $70 and Glycerine's for $85. Great prices and great shoes! I've since upgraded to a pair of mach 6's but still take the brooks out for a good run! Much love from Ohio, USA!
Cannot recommend joining your local running club enough. At Loughton AC your membership gets you free entry to loads of races, athletics meets and fantastic training every week. Most importantly the motivation of running with friends is great for improving your running
Amazfit watches can give you great value for money especially if you're on a budget. I have the Active Edge which is super fantastic. Never failed me in GPS and never disconnected to my HR sensor. For shoes, I use the 361 Fierce 3.0 as my daily, LSD and recovery run and I even use it once on a half marathon. Great bang for the buck running shoe.
Hi Ben, another great video! You had the Velocity Nitro 3 on this video, and I’ve just bought 2 pairs of the version 2 from Start Fitness at £60 a pair( less 10% as a new customer), and received a free pair of socks in each box. Love these trainers, had 2 pairs previously- bargain!
Used the High-5 gels for my marathon training last two marathon's. Even used it during my race, alternatee between High-5 and Maurten during the race for change of taste/consistency. Worked great.
Yep high 5 for training and gut training, just the standard or hydro but not the caffeine which are disgusting... however the Maurten are awesome; consistency, flavour or lack of, ease of getting down, less mess etc. so I will be splashing out on a few of 'em - my thought's when trying them for the 1st time were 'bugger! take my money already!'
I purchased the Puma Velocity Nitro and Liberate Nitro for 80€ each a couple of years ago. As an average runner, buying last year's model is my mantra. I also got myself a pair of Reebok Floatride Energy 3 for 62€ and they have been great! They're definitely the most fun to run in, a bit more springy. I even used them for a couple of triathlons.
I've been very surprised with how good Old Navy running shorts and shirts are. With how often they have sales, you can get them for incredibly cheap at times as well.
Most of my running clothes are from decathlon, but the shoes tend to be to narrow, Also any sports outlet will save you good money on things like tops and shorts
decathlon is king in the budget department for everything exept shoes there you can mostly get better deals by shopping around online. But everything else is awsome there ( I honestly prefere my 30€ VanRysel Glases over my 180€ Oakleys )
I have had the Coros Pace 2 for a few years now and it is more than enough for me as an amateur runner. It has a lot of features that I enjoy and they are continuously updating their features as well. Also, they have a model in partnership with Decathlon which is really cheap but a good choice for a first watch.
Would like to give a shout out to Karrimor. Have used their products when I was in the UK and their running bottle and shorts are still going strong after 10 years!!! So many ppl have asked me about them in Aus!
Marketplaces are best place for shoe buying. But You are wrong about that You need to buy 1-2 year old shoes. Even 3-4 old shoes have good foam and strong glue. I recently have bought brand new and original - Adios Pro 3 for 85€. Takumi Sen 8 for 57, Adizero SL for 30, Vaporfly Next % 2 for 55 and 65€. Streakfly for 35€ and Pegasus Turbo Next Nature 30€ Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro for 80. And little used ones can be had for even less. Like Takumi Sen 9 for 35, Puma Deviate Nitro 25, Pegasus Turbo 2 also 25.
Another great video, thanks Ben! And I can certainly recommend your excellent training plans: I’ve used both the one for the half marathon and for the marathon - the latter several times now - and they were unbelievably good value for £7, thank you! 👍
I love Vinted for shoes. Got a pair of worn twice trail shoes last week for £30 with RRP £160. Won a race in them on Saturday 😅 Also, you didn't mention the import of looking after your kit - cleaning and repairing it can save a lot of money in the long term! I've repaired shoes using Pair Ups and got several hundred miles more life out of them 😊
Also also, when it comes to nutrition you can just use normal food. Especially on longer races or trails. I use jelly sweets which are a fraction of the cost of gels but similar carbs.
You should try out the Qiaodan Feiying Plaid 1.5 running shoes. I got a pair a few weeks ago delivered for £146 all in and they are really brilliant top tier racing shoes. I have the Alphafly V3's and they are only 10g heavier than them in my UK 9.5. The Qiaodan are a touch softer and just as responsive but far more comfortable that the Alphafly's. I just stumbled up on a review of them on a UA-cam channel and they looked the part so got them, only took 1 week to arrive and are a really fantastic shoe for around half the price of the Alphafly V3's.
Now that BP is back to his best, after a torrid 4 years for him, I am imagining a return to unfinished UTMB business. Once that is done, I suggest adding in some different events like Hyrox, or Duathlon, or tough mudder, OCRs etc....purely for entertainment value. I think BP's personality - fun, quirky, amusing facial expressions etc - would just make for a great film during these events.
The COROS pace 3 is insanely good. Originally I got a random £50 “sports watch” from Amazon but it was terrible. I sent it back and got the Pace 3. Sure it cost more, but so good value for money.
I save a fair amount by repairing my running gear when its worn out. I dont mind it looking a bit hodge-podge, when its so much cheaper (and easier) to darn running socks or glue back together shoes. Its also quite fun and much more sustainable!
yes this is great! Sarah took some shorts to a local dry cleaners/alterations place to get them fixed and it cost her less than a fiver and had basically brand new shorts again!
I guess you don't need to spend a lot of money for running, you just need to find the thing that does it for YOU and suits YOUR running style, same with accesories, gels etc
I always buy kits on discounts (shoes, apparels), as I always felt new items are a bit overpriced. No need to buy more shirts, apparently in my country every single race I signed up the race pack includes new shirt. Cheers from Indonesia!
Puma vel. nitro 3 is a really awesome shoe. But the outsole durability is horrendous. Mine look prestine from above/sides, but from underneath, the outer parts look like I've been walking on vegetable graters.
Hello, I am an amateur runner and I would like to train for a half marathon that is in the spring of 2025. My height 184, weight 93 kg. I have no money for expensive sneakers and if I buy one it will be at the end of those where I will train everyday and go to a half marathon. Which you would recommend. My current time is at 5k about 48 minutes.
Hello and thank you for your video! Mainly I do explain the same things to people arguing running is tooooo expensive! I'll use your video to send to my mates spending budget on running equipment 😂 maybe they can save some money
Great video, but to even mention SOAR in a budget video 😄 they are ridiculous prices. Shorts, whatever the brand are a typically robust product no? Apart from the odd hole in a pocket ive not had any issues, whatever the brand whatever the price!
Absolutely…. It can be very affordable over my previous gym membership of $100/month. When I started a couple years ago, I brought the Pegasus 38. and Coros pace 2 and go on weekly parkruns. I just use watch for run so all other functionality like rowing and skiing I don’t use. and now have a 4 shoe rotation from your recommendations. I don’t do gel as all my runs are just 1.5 hour at most…on easy run. Do you have a recommendation on a cheap light weight video camera for recording purposes during my runs ? 😊
I dont run in events, they have never really interested me. I can set my watch for a distance and plan a route in my locality then go do it for free without having to commute for ages just to do a 10km or whatever distance. Granted i dont get a medal or a tshirt which I'm convinced thats all some people do them for 😂
Best value running cap has to be Ben Parkes. Tbh, besides that usually the cheapest, really isnt good and the most expensive isnt worth it either. Gotta find the sweet spot. I personally find that, while not being the cheapest, best quality for money in clothes are Saysky. Comfort is through the roof compared to Nike or alike to same price.
You need absolutely no money to start running. Put on your converse, a random old t-shirt and shorts and go for laps around the block. Your phone has GPS if you want to track pace and stuff. If you need energy eat a snickers.
@@mason_runs1010no strictly true. There is science that suggests the lack of cushioning is significantly less forgiving of heel striking and people naturally adjust their running form accordingly. If your running form is good it also strengthens muscles faster to have less cushioning provided you increase distance slowly.
@alexchapman3906 whilst I agree with the principle of less cushioning, the fact that converse will rub the heal off your foot is a major problem! They aren't built for running and more fashion. So agree with the less cushion princple I don't agree with Converse comment.

Decathlon is your best friend.
Discontinued models too.
Especially for clothing
We don’t have decathlon stores in the US. I walked by one in Spain recently and the crowd was nuts
I bought my forerunner 45 in Decathlon 2nd life. It cost just like 60€, like new, used for 6 months. Couldn't ask for a better deal
Garmin 55 is unreal. Cheap , reliable with a good battery. Have it for 2 years now and its still working just as new.
Good to know! Have bought mine for almost a year. It's incredible indeed! I didn't even have serious expectations before buying it, it's been a pleasant surprise.

+1 on Ron Hill. To me it’s a “proper” running brand that I’m pleased to wear and it’s very well priced
