I really appreciate the conversations you guys have on various guitar themes; very enlightening. What does Alvarez use as a finish on the necks (not fret boards) of their acoustics?
Meant to add that there are parallels in the paper making industry. Gloss finishes are achieved with a combination of fillers and polishing (calendering, as it’s known in the paper world) satin or Matt finishes have just had less “polishing”, but as with guitars, the Matt finishes are prone to scratching and the gloss much more robust...🤔
I took my 2007 Yairi 40C BKE, European model with the "K. Yairi" inlay and two diagonal abalone "stripes" from upper headstock to lower headstock, to my luthier two months ago. Here are his exact comments: "1. Bridge-pins, future issues due to the design. 2. Saddle cannot be adjusted for action to be lowered. 3. High action. 4. Bridge design??? 5. Type of bridge-plate will not last if guitar is used "alot" due to the bridge design." Now gentlemen, knowing this model and having independent saddles for each string, what is your opinion based on a Master Certified Luthier, Cascade School of Lutherie! Please address this or give me your opinion. He has worked on my other Yairi's, but they all have a single saddles, as you know! Thanks in advance!
I thought they were going to talk about which finishes specifically were on their guitars--nitro, polyurethane, etc.--and they did discuss those kinds of finishes, but I never heard them say which kind is on which guitar. Maybe it was because the conversation was long and very, very slow. I have a shadowburst Alvarez, and I would like to know if it's a poly or a nitro finish.
Thanks for watching, Rick. Which model do you have? And any specific questions about finishes we can help you address? Looking forward to hearing from you.
@@AlvarezGuitarsOfficial I later found out that my MDA66CESHB has a poly finish from a description on Alvarez' website of another Masterworks guitar. As an aside, I think it would be helpful to routinely include the finish material in guitar specs.
Amazing to know, so much work goes into these things so that it would be appealing to someone in the world. Hats off 🤘

Very interesting and informative. Thank you.
I wish more of your guitars had a natural/satin finish. Just a personal preference 🤔
I like satin finish a lot. Like to see the real wood.
