Simply amazing
I really like how you did the sweatband. Just a nice leather strip with holes and a thick thread. That way you can sew the leather directly onto the felt, nice one!
Thank you 🙂
Отличная работа!
So thorough. Beautiful!
Thanks you Andrea. Have a nice day.
Very impressive! Can you be my teacher. I mean can I be your student? My fascination with hats is insane.
wow wonderfull is great i love it
Beautiful work!
Thank you
Some great tips thanks for your excellent video
Thanks you Todd
Great video. My wife is a milliner and she loved it too
Dear Peter, thanks a lot. Greetings to your wife ;-)
This is amazing 😲😍. A spectacular process of art.!
Dear Esther, thanks a lot for your compliment.
I enjoyed that thanks
Great, learning this again. Bono's Hatters Bloomington Illinois in the past first., Thanks
At leaast you aren't,"mad as a hatter." Early days they used mercury to treat the fur used in making felt hats in confined spaces and they would develope, "Hatter's Disease" from the mercury. It was mercury poisoning. I enjoyed the video!
Interesting. Still a bit mad even without mercury ;-)
Interesting that you didn’t use any stiffener.
Yes this felt was already prestiffed by the felter. @@roxysimmons
@ Вітаю Вас. Дайте пораду будь ласка, у мене така шляпа втратила форму. Як мені її вирівняти? Дякую
@@user-et4hi3sr8o Hi there, the best is to use hot steam to get a felt hat back in shape. If you don't have a steamer you can help yourself by boiling water and hold the hat into the steam.
Such beautiful 🎩
Thanks you ;-)
Great job!
Thanks you.
Hi, great job🎉 is it pure ethyl alcohol or cologne sold in the market?
Nice! Thx
I love it❤
Thanks you 🙂
Quite interesting 👍

May be you made mine

Thank you cleandude :-)

a question but leather or fabrics are used
@@soy_meraki Hi Meraki, for our sweatband we use a vegetabie tanned leather from a german tannery called John Rendenbach. The felts we use are made of rabbit hair or beaver hair or blends.
Awesome craftsmanship, I’ve always loved seeing how hatters go about their trade. Was the water you submerged the hat in at the beginning hot or at least somewhat warm? I saw another video where the water they used was so hot that the hat body came out steaming!
Thank you. Yes exactly, the hotter the water the easier it gets to work with the felt.
Bagus sekali
How do you cut the brim to size after flanging it? The video jumped from it being curled to flat and I was wondering if those are two different hats?
Dear Parker, in the video you see the making of two different hats. One with a flat brim and one with an upturn brim. To cut the brim you need a rounding jack. You see the tool in the video after Min 2:08.
I guess I’m just wondering how the liner stays on! Thank you for such a great video
Hi Johnny, if the fabric has a certain stiffness there is usually no stitching needed for our lining.
Good work..and love the music too
Thank you for the flowers ;-)
Hi, thank you for such a great video! When you burn off the fibres, do you apply an alcohol based solution?
Hi ALIA, yes you can spray an alcohol based solution. The less water in it the better it burns. Best Regards, Oxblood Team
what is sprayed on the hat when he does the burning part? loved the video!
Dear Tony, the best results we get with pure alcohol.
Amazing. I am just curious to know why dint you sand it or rabbit felt don't need no sanding ? As I am a beginner.
Dear Deen, yes of course you can sand your felt, that makes your hat even smoother. This step is not shown in the video.
Looks great, is it 100% beaver? It looks very soft, and I didn't see you pounce the felt! Like the way you soaked it in water to make it more stretchable .
Dear Javier, thanks. The felt in the movie is a beaver/rabbit blend and certain pouncing was already done by the felter.
Exactamente work awesome .I have a heart that my father gave me it was a present but it's all mist up i wold love to get it fixed do you also do that tipe of work I can imagine you do
Dear Leon, thanks for your interest. Yes, sure we also refurbish older hats. You can visit us in our shop in Zurich.
Hello, I have only one question. Do you use any glue for stif? I'm on beginning of my millinery road, im practising on the cheapest wool felt, im following youtube tutorials and i wonder if I use rabbit hair felt, hat will be stiff after steaming and waiting 2/3 days without use stiff products. Now after that 2 days hats still are soft.
Dear Kamil, yes we mainly use rabbit hair felt. Only steaming won't make your felt any stiffer. To stiffen your felt you need to add felt stiffener either with a brush or with a spray. The more liquid you use the stiffener your felt will get. You can purchase felt stiffener directly or mix your own with shellac and alcohol. Best Regards, Oxblood Team
Did you apply any stiffener? Great hat!
Hi Mad Hatter, thanks. No for this hat we didn't apply any additional stiffener. The felt had already enough stiffness.
👍👍👍
Thank you
Wow arduo y dedicado oficio, elaborar un sombrero de forma "artesanal". El resultado: "GRANDIOSO"......un encantador sombrero con estilo.
What did you spray before fire? Do you have a list of all these tools to purchase or where to get them?
Dear Amber, in the spray we use nearly pure Alcohol. If you are looking for hat making tools you can search on Etsy, there you will find for sure a few suppliers. Best regards from Zurich.
@ whose the maker of your steamer and brim iron?
@@robertalexander2478 Hi Robert, you can check Jiffy Steamer and AEOLUS Ironing System. Rgds Oxblood Team.
Like 💕👍。
Nice video! Do you use any kind of felt stiffener on your hats or do they hold shape without it?
Hi Apostolos usually we buy quite stiff felts and if they are not stiff enough for our need we then add some shellac stiffener. Best regards, Oxblood Team
@ Thanks for the reply!
If you make a hat with a cardboard stiff brim, what do you use to make the brim extremely stiff?
Dear Paka you can use stiffener from hat suppliers or you can buy shellac flakes and mix it with alcohol. The more flakes you use per liter the stiffener the felt will get.
@ Thanks!! 👍
Great!
I know I might probably be asking for too much but I just have to ask
Please it is possible to get the list of equipment for this felt hat
Or/and a place I can order them
Please
I am from Nigeria
Dear Felicitas, you can find most tools by Guy Morse in England. Best regards, Oxblod Team
Great job!! why do you set your hat on fire?
Dear Pauli you can set the felt on fire as this will tightening the fibres.
If the hat is not a special order how do you figure the size? Do you make the sweatband and make the hat to fit it out vice a versa?
Dear Helen, we have a lot of different wooden hat blocks from size 54 cm up to size 65 cm, we fit the sweatband then to the size of the shaped felt.
Hey what thread thickness/type did you use for handsewing the sweatband ?
Hi Ramzie, we use a very thick one, it's much easier to stick through the felt.
@ Thanks a lot! Something like 1mm I'm guessing ?
@@ramziblue1594Yes, that's correct.
Are your capelines prestiffened before you soak them in water?
Hi there, yes most capelines are prestiffened directly from the feltmaker.
Hi, I really want to start learning how to make hats. Do you by any chance teach people how to make them? If, so do you have any online classes?
Dear Joanna, thanks a lot for your interest. Unfortunately we do not provide online classes, we are not set up for this. We give occsionally hat making courses but they are always here in Zurich. You could subscribe for our newsletter on our webpage and then you will always be informed. Best Regards, Oxblood Team.
Si el sombrero se moldea con vapor de agua, ¿qué sucedería si se moja con la lluvia?.
No veo que apliquen impermeabilizante o fijador.
Hi Sinobre, that's not a problem, as the felt can only be shaped with hot steam and water doesn't harm the felt.
