Thanks so much for your kind comment about the effort to do combination of content and entertainment! At 1993 i spend two mounts in your beautiful country, still have great memories, all the best, Taro
Thank you for the demonstration, explanation, and preparation. I will try this.
I am guessing that mixing dry ash with the thistle seed tinder instead will not work as well as mixing with the wet paste?
Hi Lonnie, first of all thanks for watching and your response my friend, only with the water the seeds become felted so you can build solid pad, important is also to blow enough oxygen to it as soon the fist spark stays at the seeds, is not so easy like charcloth, wish you all the, Taro
Always a pleasure watching Taromovies! Stay well sir
Thanks you and also all the best to you, Taro
Thank you for the great demonstrations! Cheers, my friend!

That’s not a Leuku! This is a Leuke!
Great to see you back!
Yes a pretty cool working horse 😃 thanks 👍
Very good video.
Greetings from Greece.
Thank you and regards from the heart of Switzerland!
Great to see you again! :) This is a very interesting video, I have not seen anything like it so far. I use ashes regulary as a coal extender and I saw someone here on youtube to ignite the thistle seeds with flint and steel without any preparation, yet I could not achieve that. After seeing this video I have to give this method a try. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks to your for your kind comment 👍 wish you lots of fun by trying it, all the best, Taro
Hello, I am happy to see that you are still producing videos. We enjoy them! You have an excellent teaching method, easy to follow. Thanks from the town of Enoree, South Carolina, USA! Do you have a video that explains the important details to look for when choosing a site for emergency shelter in the woods?
Hi Steve, responses like yours are the best motivation to carry on here on UA-cam! I mention in some overnight videos why I choose the place but no video yet where it is the main content, but thanks for your input, put it on my to do list! Wish you and yours only the best, Taro
Great info....thanx!
Thanks for watching Mark!
Good to see you my friend. Greetings from Chicago and ATB Mike
Thanks so much Mike and regards from the heart of Switzerland
Thanks for an informative video.
Thanks to you for watching!
Awesome
Thanks 🙏
I tried this and it’s works very well! It took 3 or 4 days to dry thoroughly but once dry took a spark easily and made a good ember, many thanks👍
Hi Matt, happy to hear that you had a try and success! Many thanks for your response, have a great week, Taro
Awesome technique, love ashed tinders.
Adds a whole new meaning to ash cakes.
great tip my friend, good to see you .
billy joe
Hey Billy, im happy to hear from you my friend, hope you and yours are all well, Taro
Hi there Taro, here from Rheinfelden ..
Nice seeing you again 😊. Interesting the Ash and Thistle Patty. Something that I have seen many years ago but had forgotten was using the fingers to concentrate the air flow onto the fire .. thanks for the reminder 👍.
Take care ..
Hi Thomas, great to hear from you! Thanks for your kind response and your support over so many years! Hope you’re well, Taro
@@Taromovies 👍
Enjoyed to tip video
Thanks so much my friend!
Good tip , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Thanks for your response Michael! Take care, Taro
Only this afternoon I was showing my 6yr old granddaughter lighting thistle seed with a ferro rod. I will have to try this method and also experiment with cat tail seeds too. Thanks. 🏴
Great to heart that you teach the young once those skills, I’m sure your granddaughter will always remember those moments with you, thanks for your kind response, all the best, Taro
Sorry I forgot to say that cat tail doesn’t work this way because they don’t absurd water
@@Taromovies ah, ok thanks for that information. 👍
Super cooles Video! Danke hab wieder was gelernt! Muss nicht unbedingt kochen das Zeugs..... LG
Danke lieber Felix, manchmal schmeckt es auch roh:-) LG und bis bald, Taro
Very good. I like your
channel very much. Please proceed with your good work!
Thanks for your kind response Rainer, hope I’ve soon more time again to carry on and produce new videos👍

very good movie , id like to see you more often
Thanks Darren, I’ll try my best 👍
Fantastic! I’ve heard of using milkweed ovum for flint and steel, but not thistle.
There’s no shortage of thistle where I live! Many thanks..
Many thanks for watching and your response 👍 Taro
All way enjoy your video's. This was no exception. Great teaching video.
As all ways, how are the "TICKS"? Are you up high enough where they don't go?
Which you made video's more often. But I take what I can get. LOL!!!
As all ways, Thanks for taking US along!!!
Thanks for your kind response! Yes I'm up to 1'500 meter with quite a bit effort, so away from the ticks and the crowd:-) all the best, Taro
Cooles Video Danke
Kommt alles gut.
Ich hoffe und Wünsche bei Euch auch. Herzliche verbundene Grüsse an alle.
Gruäss Emil
Excellent!
You never stop learning. Can you do that with normal cotton wool and coal instead of ash?
thanks for your kind response and your input! As my experience wool and coal prepared the same way is probably not working, but I'll give it try to be sure
👍
Thanks!
Great video Mate, just found your channel and subscribed immediately 👍
Many thanks
Thanks you should do sharpening videos for your cutting tools or the way you do it thanks
Thanks for your response, put it on my to do list!
Interesting. What does the ash do? Just for making the paste? I wonder if you ground up charcoal instead if that would be an improvement?
It makes it able not only to catch a spark also to build an amber, it dosen't work without and not with charcoal, best wishes, Taro
Great video! What is that item you wear around your neck?
Thanks Matt, it’s a whet stone for sharpening, the brand is Wazoo Survival Gear
I wonder if this would work for cattail fluff instead of thistle seed fluff?
cattail is to much water repellent and dosen't work this way, think you have to boil it in ash water to get rid of the repellent coating
@@Taromovies thanks mate, yes I've noticed when I am soaking my cattail fluff in potassium nitrate it is very resistant to the process and you have to be on the ball with it otherwise it doesn't get a good treatment.
I have to admit nitrated cattail fluff is among my favourite prepared plant tinders for flint and steel, they take a spark very easily and burns hot.
I remember there was a video awhile back that showed using ashes and a cotton ball. Mix the ash into the cotton ball and rub it between two pieces of would. Some how the friction caused it to burn. I cant remember where I saw it though.
yes i know this technique, the pressure and movement make the heart, is quite unique
Wow I was thinking you were gone from UA-cam. Good to see you again.
What is the purpose of mixing in the ash?
Thanks for your welcome back! without ash it will not catch the spark that easy and if you'll not have any proper ember, best regards, Taro
@@Taromovies thank you. I'll try it next time I find thistle. ❤
are there ticks there ? if so any deterrent?
I'm lucky Mike because in this area are only a few ticks, is enough to check your body at the evening, didn't have any since 15 years when i was there
@@Taromovies wow thats great. here in new jersey, usa. theres a deer tick every 20 feet. they are everywhere
Wie kommt es, dass ich deinen fabelhaften Kanal erst jetzt entdecke? Freue mich auf weitere Videos!
Danke für Dein Kompliment 👍 LG Taro
