Fun fact about Old: Old was inspired by a graphic novel called Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Levy. The movie diverges from the comic, like adding in reasons for the beach shenanigans and changing the ending. The children-turned-teens getting pregnant does happen in the graphic novel, but it leads to a more depressing end. I think since he changed the ending completely, he could've definitely just left that scene out. 😅 He also changed the name of the character of Mid-sized Sedan...the character's name in the comic is Amesan. Sorry but I enjoyed OLD. The watching of the couple slowly age and forget each other and die in front of their children who are aging again was a powerful lesson
Old was awesome, I think most people just don't get it. There are a few segments in it which cross into stupid absurdity and the ending is wayyyy too drawn out and expository but aside from that it's much better than it's placement on this list.

Love your videos man! Only just found your channel and in the past week I've been through at least 5 of your long tier list & ranking videos. Great content!!
Is it so hard to say Shyamalan? Oh yeah, let's laugh at his name and make it sound like gibberish because he's Indian and they have these silly names, right?
The aliens in Signs may have been desperate by coming to Earth despite it being 70% water. However, they have space flight tech way beyond ours, yet they dont have suits and protective gear to protect them from water? Our astronauts wear suits and helmets to protect them from several different things that we know our bodies cant handle, and we have very limited tech compared to these aliens.
Great list and yesss The Happening is so ridiculously entertaining! Also awesome to see Signs so high on the list. It has been one of my all time favorite films since I was child and even though I must have seen it over 30 times, I would love to see it in a theater. I was 5 when it was released, so missed my chance to see it then. 😁 Maybe by 2028 we could celebrate it's 25th anniversary and bring it back for a re-run? Here's hoping.
So I was 13 when I first saw signs. I was home alone, it was dark, and I was watching it on The family aol Dial-up computer. This was during the time of Napster. Anyway, I will never forget the scene where they see the alien for the first time through the TV. For whatever reason that was the scariest thing I ever saw and it scared the s*** out of me to the point I had to turn on all the lights and still couldn't sleep.
Love this list bro, and I was so glad to see your number 1 being Unbreakable because that’s always been bar none the best M night movie ever made to me…it’s a masterpiece
"Unbreakable" has always been my fav of his. The one i feel is underrated is "The Village", true that it could have been better if it stayed in the horror genre, but i think it has an interesting commentary and great visuals.
What a great list! Mine is: 1. Lady in the Water 2. Unbreakable 3. Signs 4. Sixth Sense 5. Split 6. The Visit 7. The Village 8. Trap 9. Glass The rest were not my cup of tea.
dave bautista was INCREDIBLE in knock at the cabin, the way he was able to control the whole situation with the 2 men and their daughter without even raising his voice or even using his body as a weapon like most big wrestler turned actors would rely on he on the other hand relied on his acting to carry the film and he nailed the role perfectly!
He was no better in that than a mannequin with a tape recorder in its throat. Why are they trying to make this guy a popular actor a-la The Rock? Cabin was a pointless bore-fest at any rate.
And Unbreakable watch shot in frames the way a comic book would be drawn. As a guy who grew up collecting comics, It was noticeable and very much appreciated.
As someone who loves Avatar and it will forever be my favourite comfort show, every time I am reminded of The Last Airbender I get the Kill Bill siren go off 😡🚨 I'll never forgive him for creating that monstrosity of a film
Seeing Bruce Willis at the end of Split was such a bitchin surprise. Not only was Split very good, but I waited years hotly anticipating the secret conclusion of Unbreakable, wondering all the who what when wheres. And then Glass came out and M Night dropped trow and hosed his whole audience down with projectile dookie all the way from Philadelphia. It's still the only film I've seen that made me legitimately angry.
Thanks for the upload, Cody, especially with several people targeting you online. (Hope the trolling dies down.) Here’s how I’d rank M. Night Shyamalan’s films that he directed from best to worst: 1. ‘The Sixth Sense’ 2. ‘Unbreakable’ 3. ‘Signs’ 4. ‘Split’ 5. ‘The Village’ 6. The Visit’ 7. ‘Trap’ 8. ‘Glass’ 9. ‘Knock at the Cabin’ 10. ‘Wide Awake’ 11. ‘Lady in the Water’ 12. ‘Praying with Anger’ 13. ‘Old’ 14. ‘The Happening’ 15. ‘After Earth’ 16. ‘The Last Airbender’
Now rank the movies based solely on their concepts. His strong suit is coming up with cool ideas. Regardless of the execution, which do you think are the most interesting?
@@zoewhiteart7676 His most underrated film and i hate that people put it in the same camp as lady in the water and the happening as the films that made him a bad director
It's in my list of all time favorites. Cannot understand the hate or indifference this movie gets. And the acting is awesome. Bryce Dallas Howard is outstanding, together with the guy who played Noah.
People hating on The Village twist I am convinced to this day just didn't understand the movie or they're just salty they didn't get monsters. There are so many clues all through the movie, saying it should've been a straightforward story of a girl trying to get medicine. That would've been so boring. There's no universe where Glass is better than Knock at the Cabin, The Village, and The Visit. The Happening sure, it's enjoyable as a high budget schlock film but there's just nothing to excuse the awfulness of Glass.
The Village is a great love story that also has a philosophical take on society and how you cannot get rid of evil completely. To me, it's a brilliant movie.
1. The Visit (number of times I’ve seen it, man those grandparents and the rap songs) 2. Signs 3. The 6 senses (I need to watch this again, been a very long time) 4. Unbreakable 5. Split 6. Glass (salt bae) 7. Old 8. Trap 9. Knock at the Cabin 10. The Happening 11. The Village 12. Lady in the Water (been a long time as well).
M Night Shyamalan is one of my top ten favorite directors of all time and as an aspiring business owner and actress I hope to work with him one day in the near future. My top five favorite movies from him are The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, Split and Glass. My honorable mentions are Old, Knock at the Cabin and Trap. This was another good movie ranking video and analysis Cody. ❤❤❤❤🎬🎥🎟️🎞️🍿🥤
12: The Happening 11: Knock At the Cabin 10: Lady In the Water 9: Split 8: Devil 7: Glass 6: The Visit 5: Old 4: Signs 3: The Village 2: Unbreakable 1: The Sixth Sense
Haven't seen Trap yet, so can't say anything about that one. Can't say that I agree with your list completely, but hey...it's your list :) I do include "Devil" in my list. Though M. Night Shyamalan hasn't directed it, you can clearly feel that it's a story by him. I've seen 14 movies so far where he was involved with. Anyways, my list would be: 1) The Sixt Sense Great soundtrack, great story, great performances (loved Donnie Wahlberg and Toni Collette), great cinematography, etc. Saw it when it came out in 1999 and talked about it for weeks afterwards. 2) Unbreakable Only thing I have with this movie is that at times it feels a bit too slow paced. 3) The Village Yeah, I liked this movie a lot! Maybe not one of the greatest twists, but I just love the whole (autumnish feeling, maybe even Halloween-ish) atmosphere of the movie and the soundtrack I think is beautiful. Also the great performances by: Bryce Dallas Howard, Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody, William Hurt, Brendan Gleeson, Sigourney Weaver, Judy Greer, etc. The cinematography is also excellent. 4) Signs Wow, awesome 50s SF opening music :) Great cinematopgraphy, good performances (maybe sometimes a bit too odd) and a very intriguing story (maybe sometimes a bit too slow paced). But, I can't really get around the water bit. But that's just me! I found that to be quite a stupid plot point. A highly intelligent alien species that can be killed by water, but chooses our planet to conquer. It's a bit the same as with "The War of the Worlds" (I understand that's the idea), for there it's the common cold / the flu that kills them. But, they studied our species and planet for God knows how long, but in the end a human virus kills them. Anyhow, as a whole I loved this movie! 5) Split 6) Glass 7) Devil 8) Knock at the Cabin 9) Lady in the Water 10) The Happening Yeah...this movie may be in the end an unintentionally comedy...but if you didn't expected this like me back then... Boy, I was so disappointed! The trailer was just awesome! But than you get this?! 11) The Visit 12) Old So disappointing! Awesome premise for a movie! But executed so poorly. 13) After Earth 14) The Last Airbender
Rupert Grint is also in a show on Apple Tv called Servant, which M. Night Shyamalan also happens to be an executive producer of. theres 4 seasons, its actually pretty good too
The Sixth Sense - A Unbreakable - A- Signs - B+ The Village - C Lady In The Water - D The Last Airbender - F After Earth - F The Happening - D+ The Visit - C+ Split - B+ Glass - D+ Old - C- Knock @ The Cabin - C- Trap (n/a)

“Well since you’re all not going to eat I’m going to have some of everything.” (Digs into French toast) 😂 signs has some funny moments My ranking 1. Signs 2. The sixth sense 3. Unbreakable 4. Split 5. The village 6. The happening 7. The visit 8. Glass 9. Knock at the cabin 10. After earth 11. Trap 12. Wide awake 13. Old 14. Lady in the water 15. The last airbender
I love how in signs, whenever the aliens are lurking around, all the insect sounds immediately stop. Nice touch I didn't notice until my repeat viewings.
In the nepotism side of the ranking you should Also include The Last Airbender because for everything that Shymanlan screwed up with his adaptation, i will not blame him for the infamous whitewashing, the two people responsible for that is the girl that played Katara and her billionaire father that forced her into the film since one of the producers owned him a favour, which led them having to cast all the water nation white and Once they realised that their biggest star was Jasper from twilight they knew they had to pick a popular name for the villain Zuko and after the initial choice, Jesse McCartney, dropped Dev Patel took the role and that defined also the ethnicity of the firenation!
Epic, deep, philosophical: 1 Unbreakable, 2 The Village, 3 Sixth Sense, 4 Signs, 5 Glass, 6 Split, 7 Lady in the Water. Fun, light-weight, punchy: 8 Old, 9 The Visit, 10 Trap, 11 Devil, 12 Knock at the Cabin, 13 The Happening. Mis-fires: 14 The Last Airbender, 15 After Earth.
M nights all for the self shymalan family love, first he had himself basically be the villain in old cause he was watching over them, then he just promoted his daughters music with trap
Love this list, and I have something to add to Signs that people seem to not notice. A Quiet Place has the exact same trope of weakness to water. It doesn't play out the exact same way, but they don't like water just like the Aliens in Signs don't. So how can you love one film with that trope and hate another with the same trope?
When I started hearing the "visions" Unbreakable theme song at the end of Split, my first reaction was "wow, what that's lazy reusing that theme.". But then it was hands down the most surprising thing I have ever seen in a movie theater. Event more than the Sixth Sense.
My M. Night Shyamalan Movies Ranking: 1. Unbreakable (2000) 10/10 2. The Sixth Sense (1999) 10/10 3. Signs (2002) 10/10 4. Split (2017) 10/10 5. Glass (2019) 10/10 6. The Visit (2015) 10/10 7. Knock at the Cabin (2023) 10/10 8. The Happening (2008) 10/10 9. The Village (2004) 8/10 10. Wide Awake (1998) 8/10 11. Old (2021) 7/10 12. Trap (2024) 7/10 13. Lady in the Water (2006) 5/10 14. After Earth (2013) 1/10 15. The Last Airbender (2010) 1/10
There are directors who I completely connect to their vision, and M. Night is one of them. This meaning that most of the flaws that bother other people, don't bother me. Like the one major plot hole in every movie or the awkward humour and dialogue, I don't care. I love the old school thriller vibe Shyamalan has and his take on horror I love. I've loved all of his movies post the Visit except Glass (which was alright). That's just because I completely connect to the vision he has, and I completely can just immerse myself into his movies and not care about the flaws.
I strongly agree with you on The Happening... Hate that you love it or love that you hate it it's entertainment. And that's really all that movies should be. Even if unintentional.
*SPOILERS FOR SIGNS* . . . I'm glad there's someone who actually understands the water thing. It doesn't come out of nowhere and the film explains it all really well you just have to pay attention to the dialogue 🙃 The army guy explains that there is just a few aliens coming to Earth on reconnaissance to check everything is okay for the aliens to come down for a full on invasion to harvest our resources (as explained by Morgan from his book). Why didn't the aliens discover that water is harmful to them during the reconnaissance? Because as explained by the reverend, the aliens mostly go to places where there isn't bodies of water nearby. Hence, he theorises that 'I don't think they like water'. As much as it's not fully revealed until the end, they basically tell you about halfway through the film that water is their weakness. Ahh, I had to vent! It's an amazing film, and people just obsess over the water thing when I personally think they explain it really well, as well as foreshadowing with the Bo leaving glasses of water everywhere. Even if you have to suspend some disbelief, it is not enough to ruin the film.
@@matt1372 Mediocre. I don't know why people on here seem to think it's good somehow. To me this director had one good movie and then went on to repeat the same trick with increasingly more predictable, mediocre movies. I stopped following him after signs. That was a horror movie that wasn't scary and had the predictable, unlikely plot twist at the end. I remember stepping out of the cinema feeling extremely underwhelmed. My friends had the same. You also see that he didn't hit anywhere close to an 8 on IMDB since with Ubreakable and Split being a 7.3 and the rest a 6.6 or lower.
@@greggibson33 He made one really good movie. I would say the Sixth Sense is a 9/10. Unbreakable/Split/Glass might be a 7/10. Signs/The Village a 6/10 and the rest lower than that.
Signs is a timeless classic with some of the best dialogue ever delivered in film. I'm actually surprised Shyamalan has not revisited this universe. Perhaps post Glass and a few clunkers he will begin considering it. Not that he should, but it could be epic if the original cast can return.
I just had a weird idea for a horror ranking list, so I came to your channel to share it, lol. “Top Overhated, Overrated Horror Movies” In other words, horror movies that were indeed overrated in their first couple years of release that started to gain an excessive amount of hate later on. Basically it’s like decent horror movies that received too much praise at first, but too much hate later on. Idk, it might be too convoluted to put together, but I thought I’d share the idea, lol.
I kept wondering where Devil would be on the list, but I remembered you said he produced the movie and hadn’t directed it which I didn’t know was the case but I loved that movie too
The thing that got me with Knock at the Cabin is, when the guy goes to his manual unlocking car, when he finally gets his gun out of the locked fingerprint case, he doesn’t have bullets already in it? That’s why it’s in a locked case. Put bullets in it.

@@jwew7690Honestly it’s a movie where I feel most people will either really enjoy it or despise it. I personally enjoyed but it has a lot of disbelief you have to suspend. I’d say it’s worth it just for Josh Hartnett.
I liked the village more than signs I think and I can’t imagine a movie being worse than lady in the water (never seen avatar) but otherwise great list
@@jwew7690it’s good. Could have been better but could have been much worse too.
The Happening is too low
Love your videos man! Only just found your channel and in the past week I've been through at least 5 of your long tier list & ranking videos. Great content!!
Been lookin forward to the Shamalamadingdong ranking for years!
Haha that's what I call him
Is it so hard to say Shyamalan? Oh yeah, let's laugh at his name and make it sound like gibberish because he's Indian and they have these silly names, right?
@@TheMrHavishit’s not that deep

Thank you Cody! Unbreakable is also my favorite of M. Knight’s!!!
Dude! Can't wait to watch. Always great stuff from you. Gets me through my gym workouts.
M. Night Shyamalan’s earlier movies are some of the best in my opinion.
Another awesome video! Love your channel Cody!
Good list! My Top 5:
1. Signs
2. The Sixth Sense
3. Unbreakable
4. Split
5. The Visit
The director rankings are awesome keep them up please
Really love this channel! Thank you for the content, Cody!
Mine is:
1. Lady in the Water
2. Unbreakable
3. Signs
4. Sixth Sense
5. Split
6. The Visit
7. The Village
8. Trap
9. Glass
The rest were not my cup of tea.
dave bautista was INCREDIBLE in knock at the cabin, the way he was able to control the whole situation with the 2 men and their daughter without even raising his voice or even using his body as a weapon like most big wrestler turned actors would rely on he on the other hand relied on his acting to carry the film and he nailed the role perfectly!
He was no better in that than a mannequin with a tape recorder in its throat.
Why are they trying to make this guy a popular actor a-la The Rock? Cabin was a pointless bore-fest at any rate.
I work at a military base in NJ.
“Knock at the Cabin” was filmed in multiple locations near my workplace.
Another fantastic list keep em coming mate 👍
Last airbender is the only film I've walked out of the theater on. What a slap in the face to an amazing story.
That awful ending of Glass ruined the whole movie for me.
Loved the visit. We watched it at the fire station when it came out and enjoyed it.
Signs is his best in my opinion, that film still creeps me out with the atmosphere and Mel Gibson's acting is phenomenal awesome ranking Cody.
Thanks for the upload, Cody, especially with several people targeting you online. (Hope the trolling dies down.)
Here’s how I’d rank M. Night Shyamalan’s films that he directed from best to worst:
1. ‘The Sixth Sense’
2. ‘Unbreakable’
3. ‘Signs’
4. ‘Split’
5. ‘The Village’
6. The Visit’
7. ‘Trap’
8. ‘Glass’
9. ‘Knock at the Cabin’
10. ‘Wide Awake’
11. ‘Lady in the Water’
12. ‘Praying with Anger’
13. ‘Old’
14. ‘The Happening’
15. ‘After Earth’
16. ‘The Last Airbender’
Shocked by the Trapped placement🤯
Now rank the movies based solely on their concepts. His strong suit is coming up with cool ideas. Regardless of the execution, which do you think are the most interesting?
Water is one of our biggest weakness. We can drown so many ways, we can also die without it. We can drown but we go swimming and on boats.
Funny, just watched The Village with my daughter couple nights ago.
It's a good twist i think
@@cityzengirl I agree.
@@zoewhiteart7676 His most underrated film and i hate that people put it in the same camp as lady in the water and the happening as the films that made him a bad director
@@adamcade604 yes so true, I agree with you completely.
"The Happening" was pretty funny, I just rode with it and it's honestly one that I revisit. M. started feeling himself, and just crashed lately.

2. Signs

12: The Happening
11: Knock At the Cabin
10: Lady In the Water
9: Split
8: Devil
7: Glass
6: The Visit
5: Old
4: Signs
3: The Village
2: Unbreakable
1: The Sixth Sense
Haven't seen Trap yet, so can't say anything about that one.
Can't say that I agree with your list completely, but hey...it's your list :)
I do include "Devil" in my list. Though M. Night Shyamalan hasn't directed it, you can clearly feel that it's a story by him.
I've seen 14 movies so far where he was involved with.
Anyways, my list would be:
1) The Sixt Sense
Great soundtrack, great story, great performances (loved Donnie Wahlberg and Toni Collette), great cinematography, etc.
Saw it when it came out in 1999 and talked about it for weeks afterwards.
2) Unbreakable
Only thing I have with this movie is that at times it feels a bit too slow paced.
3) The Village
Yeah, I liked this movie a lot!
4) Signs
Wow, awesome 50s SF opening music :) Great cinematopgraphy, good performances (maybe sometimes a bit too odd) and a very intriguing story (maybe sometimes a bit too slow paced).
5) Split
6) Glass
7) Devil
8) Knock at the Cabin
9) Lady in the Water
10) The Happening
Yeah...this movie may be in the end an unintentionally comedy...but if you didn't expected this like me back then...
Boy, I was so disappointed! The trailer was just awesome! But than you get this?!
11) The Visit
12) Old
So disappointing! Awesome premise for a movie! But executed so poorly.
13) After Earth
14) The Last Airbender
Rupert Grint is also in a show on Apple Tv called Servant, which M. Night Shyamalan also happens to be an executive producer of. theres 4 seasons, its actually pretty good too
Unbreakable legit changed my movie mind lol. That movie is hands down in my all time fav top five for sure

14. Lady in the water
Epic, deep, philosophical:
1 Unbreakable,
2 The Village,
3 Sixth Sense,
4 Signs,
5 Glass,
6 Split,
7 Lady in the Water.
Fun, light-weight, punchy:
8 Old,
9 The Visit,
10 Trap,
11 Devil,
12 Knock at the Cabin,
13 The Happening.
Mis-fires:
14 The Last Airbender,
15 After Earth.
My M. Night Shyamalan Movies Ranking:

2. The Sixth Sense (1999) 10/10
3. Signs (2002) 10/10
4. Split (2017) 10/10
5. Glass (2019) 10/10
6. The Visit (2015) 10/10
7. Knock at the Cabin (2023) 10/10
8. The Happening (2008) 10/10
9. The Village (2004) 8/10

13. Lady in the Water (2006) 5/10

*SPOILERS FOR SIGNS*

It's plenty to ruin the film. Perfect example of M. Night having a concept and not knowing what to do with it. His career has been mediocre at best.
@@greggibson33 Haha, that's fair enough 🤣 I think his early stuff is great, but then he couldn't live up to his own hype
I just took it like they didn't know that water was harmful to them until they encountered it.
@tiffanybarefield1227 Well, exactly! If they don't have water on their planet, how would they know it's deadly to them?
"The Sixth Sense" was his best
@@michelvoortman4725split and unbreakable are bad? Yikes sir😬
@@michelvoortman4725 Most overrated director ever.... That's even if he was ever rated in the first place.
@@greggibson33 He made one really good movie. I would say the Sixth Sense is a 9/10. Unbreakable/Split/Glass might be a 7/10. Signs/The Village a 6/10 and the rest lower than that.

The Happening is the only MKS movie I've watched many many times and will watch again. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
Signs is a timeless classic with some of the best dialogue ever delivered in film. I'm actually surprised Shyamalan has not revisited this universe. Perhaps post Glass and a few clunkers he will begin considering it. Not that he should, but it could be epic if the original cast can return.
My favourite movie of his is still Unbreakable. Gotta see Trap
I just had a weird idea for a horror ranking list, so I came to your channel to share it, lol.
“Top Overhated, Overrated Horror Movies”
In other words, horror movies that were indeed overrated in their first couple years of release that started to gain an excessive amount of hate later on. Basically it’s like decent horror movies that received too much praise at first, but too much hate later on.
Idk, it might be too convoluted to put together, but I thought I’d share the idea, lol.
I agree, Glass is flawed, but I love the move lol Split is top 3 for me though.
I love how the camera moved in Unbreakable when Bruce lifted the heavy weights
I kept wondering where Devil would be on the list, but I remembered you said he produced the movie and hadn’t directed it which I didn’t know was the case but I loved that movie too
The thing that got me with Knock at the Cabin is, when the guy goes to his manual unlocking car, when he finally gets his gun out of the locked fingerprint case, he doesn’t have bullets already in it? That’s why it’s in a locked case. Put bullets in it.
And here I am still waiting for you to acknowledge the existence of the AMAZING The Descent 1 and 2.
