    This came out so amazing!! And how fun that your wife added to it with her art work. I really want to learn how to work with decals in the future as well since they can add so much (like they did here). I will definitely be checking out Presepe for future projects too! The leaves really highlighted the atmosphere you have created with your structure. Wonderful!

      Thanks Ara! The decals were a fun new thing to try out for sure. Fabio at diorama presepe is great, would love to see what you can do with his foliage!

    Fascinating! Even though you shoot all the process of creation, it's still magic in final result. Because it's real balcony with real fallen leaves on the floor, no matter how small it is.

    Truly inspiring, I consider myself a horror veteran, and the dioramas you've created really focused on the most important factor of horror. Ambiance and psychological. A picture is worth a thousand words but these works of art really puts you in the movie.

    I totally agree that resin prints are the way to go to get extreme detail in small parts. You mentioned the resin being too hard to mount the hinges on the doors. I have found that if you use a pin vise drill and drill the holes BEFORE you cure the resin print, it works great. The print is still soft and won't break while you drill, then cure the print after. Maybe use clipped brads as nails and just glue them into the holes to hold the hinges. Try it. Love the blowing leaves treatment!

    I use tacky glue for functioning hinges in 1:12 scale. Hard glues like super glue are apt to lose their grip. The flexibility of tacky glue allows the hinge to function without breaking the connection between the metal hinge and the object you glue it to.

    I came upon your issue with the hinges.
    I thought you might be able to use the resin on a small brush and “paint” the area you need to attach the hinge and while in place use a uv flashlight and cure it right in place.
    This might work out well for you.

    Another great video. The 3d printing of solid objects looks fantastic but thinner, flat stuff like the doors looked like they had bowed. Is there an easy fix to getting them flat?

    • @AbandonedMiniatures
      @AbandonedMiniatures  2 роки тому

      The flat pieces can do that, usually I am gluing them down to something anyway, but with the doors I glued some strips of material to the one side to straighten them out.

    im not sure exactly how resin for 3d printing works, as im not super familiar with it, but does it melt somewhat easily? if so, to attach the hinges, could you possibly heat the screw part and sort of press it into the resin, to bond them together?

    The Hinge Problem: working hinges that look right are a nightmare. The best answer I have found are lift-off hinges.
    Every door or cabinet hinge consists of two ‘leaves’ and one pin, right? But typically they come as a single assembly, and fixing the leaves to both door and frame so they’re strong and straight and aligned with the SECOND hinge (since no door calls for only one) is… yeah, a very low work:reward yield.
    A lift-off hinge comes in two pieces: one leaf with the pin as a single part, and one leaf into which the pin can be inserted. Made this way, a builder can attach each leaf firmly to its respective place, and then doors can be lifted on and off of their frames very easily.
    I make these out of styrene and brass wire, but I have seen them fully 3d printed, so I’m sure that the likes of you and Ara can do much cleaner, more cleverly-integrated versions of this type of hinge! Beautiful scene with the red leaves, this one is my new favorite.

    • @AbandonedMiniatures
      @AbandonedMiniatures  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, that sounds like it would help quite a bit. It gets hard to 3D print functional parts that small without them breaking. But I’ll have to see what I can do!

    • @toomanymonkeys21
      @toomanymonkeys21 2 роки тому

      @@AbandonedMiniatures The first time I saw the idea was on one of Rik Pierce’s Frogmorton Studio doors. Best guess is that they were cast resin rather than 3d printed. The pin would be the most breakable bit, but if the leaves were printed as just part of the build, maybe you could use a wire for the pin? Sorry for all the thinking out loud, but hinges that look right and are functional has become my Hamburger Hill and I’m crap at 3d modeling. Congrats again on such a satisfying diorama.
