Duuuuude thank you for this video. I just swapped from Canon to Sony and this new menu system has some challenges. This was super helpful and I bet I will be back to this vid several times!
A piece of constructive criticism: you might want to title this video: my menu settings instead of full menu walkthrough. I was hoping you would answer in more detail what each setting did instead of saying “i pretty much leave it on…” or “it basically just…” I know it’s a lot to make a video like this, but I made it half way through before you skipped over explanations of the menu settings I am most curious about.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for this super detailed walkthrough! I think this kind of deep dive is incredibly valuable for getting a good idea of what it will be like to work with the camera before buying it. Any UA-camr can read off a list of specs that I can just look up on B&H myself, but there are so many little details that can make all the difference in everyday life. Much more than whether it’s got 24 MP or 33, or 10 or 11 fps or whatever.
The thing that most concerned me about the a7cii was the lack of the joystick, but I recently heard about the touch panel trick. This is when looking from the visor, you can actually use the (turned off) screen as a touchpad/joystick and change the focus point somehow like in the a7iv or new sony cameras😳 Ps: I loved this video tho, very helpful for fully customizing my new camera✨
Its an excellent tutorial for both video and photo users. You showed me how to setup the many functions this camera possesses. Id like to know how to turn off the in camera voice tutorial as i dont need it anymore? You touched on everything i need to know. The voice tutorial i selected when i first turned on the camera and entered the initial setup such as language, time, etc. Thanks for this excellent video!
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I’m moving from my old reliables: GH5 for video and D750 for photos, to this camera for everything. I run a small photo/videography business, and this camera seems right for me to pare things down and move quickly between photos and video for clients who want both. My biggest fear is the learning curve. I want to be able to hit the ground running at my shoot on Tues. This video is super helpful in that regard! Now my issue is figuring out which Sony lenses are gonna work well for interviews, and gimbal work…
I had a GH4 back in the day! Made the switch to Sony a few years back and love it. For interviews wide angle I love the Sony 20mm: amzn.to/46yLF38 I have a video about it here: ua-cam.com/video/p07giug-IF8/v-deo.htmlsi=7doJ8MopwgMhiNTV I’ve used the 20mm on a gimbal as well but it mostly depends on the focal length you’re looking for Using the 20mm with crop sensor mode and clear image zoom makes for a good range (you can assign clear image zoom to the custom button on the lens and crop mode on a custom button)
@@benjohnsoncreative Well that’s good - cause I ordered that lens along with a sigma 28-70 and Sony 70-200 f/4. :-) Still debating what I want for a mid-range prime. 50, 35, just gonna use the camera a bit and see what I’m missing. Thanks again for your help!
About to drop $2500 at my local camera shop for my first camera. They recommended this for my family’s photography- children, maternity, birth etc. Thoughts? I’m not a professional and have no experience but I’ve been saving for a looong time for a nice camera.
Thank you for your very good video. Is it possible to set the shutter speed to any number we want (for example, 1/48) for filming in this camera, like the A7 IV?
Very usefull video. Thank you. I have a problem with turning off the audio guide when handling the menu. It keeps speaking when scrolling through menu options. How do I turn it off?
Thank you so much Ben for the in depth informative video, was very helpful for me! By the way, does A7Cii have high flash sync mode? God bless and good luck!
I think flash sync is always limited to 1/160 like my a7c v1. It cannot fully use my sony 60rm2 which can go to 1/400 native. But with a nd filter and hss we can use higher shutter speed. But i would like to see a a7cR mark2 with real 1/400 flash sync and 1/8000 shutter full mechanical. At the same time 32 bits float audio would be welcome, and the new flip screen like the a7rV which allow vertical position for photo or gimbal without moving the screen on the side, and an even deeper grip like the fx3
Hey man great video. Just wondered if you add a USBC to HDMI adapter and send a cropped video feed into an atem switcher (via streaming) while using the HDMI port to send a full frame feed.
Is the log shooting mode defaulted to slog3? Because when I go into the picture profiles, slog3 has been totally removed, but I can actually just customize one of the profiles to become slog 3. So what is the difference from shooting “log mode with flexible iso” to selecting slog3 in picture profiles?
I followed your advice on the color temp for one of the dials. But I am unable to change the color temp no matter what dial setting I use on the camera. Any tips? Great video btw.
I have the a7c gen 1 and it is already a fantastic camera in photo and video, in low light and every scenario with the right lenses. Stabilization is good for static shots even at 300mm. For video stabilization i ordered a gimbal weebill 3s which should match the a7c and tamron lenses 17-28 and even 70mm of the 70-300mm as it is so light weight. I wait my zhiyun w3s. A7cR should be nice in photo to crop pictures and 4k60. But a7c is very very good at 1080p60 and 1080p120 and the software can upscale the resolution. So i think the a7c is already super good, and miss only 10 bits 4:2:2 to use slog3 but there is hlg3. Honestly the video is already super good at 8 bits standard profile and pp2 for nightshot where you reduce details to limit noise, the sensor 24mp is very good. The grip of the a7c is not the best, so i added a handle and cage but it add weight so i removed it and prefer the lightweight a7c standard for photo. The cage is good for video handheld as it add weight which make it more stable. But i will receive my gimbal which should solve that.
Do you have a video like this for the zve10? I saw the one for UA-camrs. I was wondering if there was another version that goes through the entire camera similar to this one.
That’s the best video about a7cii settings, thank you very much for explaining everything ❤️ I have one question - why I cannot change aperture and shutter speed in mode 1 or 2? On M mode I have 4k50p (and I can change them) but on mode 1 - 4k25p and mode 2 - 1080p shutter speed and aperture are greyed out. Did I miss something?
Mode 1 and 2 are memory recall modes, that you can save. I have a whole section in the video about how to save them. Essentially you need to set your camera up the way you want it to be (manual, 4k, etc) then use memory recall to save the settings to 1, 2, or 3 Then when you switch to them on the dial it will “recall” those settings It seems like currently when you switch to it, it is “recalling” an auto setting mode in 1080, so you just need to overwrite it
Thank you so much for this vid! Got my A7c2 and this has been so helpful. Also have a ZVE1. Do you know if there’s any resolution loss in video mode when pairing APSC glass and the ZVE1?
So on edge between the ZV-E1 and the A7CII, any tips man? Currently have a Canon R6 for stills but short form video content is what I really want to get into. ZVE1 seems perfect for that (with the glorious A7siii and FX3 sensor) but then they announced this. How does this compare to the ZVE1 in terms of video? I know it doesn't have as good low light performance, has a 1.5x crop in 4k60 and cant shoot 4k120 and 1080 240 like the ZVE1.
Here’s my thoughts PRO A7Cii -EVF -Crop sensor mode (can crop with lenses to get extra reach in video without losing resolution, or use crop sensor lenses with it) -way better photos (33megapixel) PRO ZVE1 -Better video frame rate options -Dynamic active stabilization mode -Insane lowlight I am leaning towards wanting both eventually, but the a7cii would be my main daily driver, and the ZVE1 would be more secondary and specialty For my workflow the a7cii is fantastic With the ZVE1 It’s the lack of the EVF for me personally that makes me lean a7cii
HI THANK YOU FOR YOU PRECIOUS INFORMATIONS. BUT SOS NOW EVERITHING BLACK CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME ADVISE HOW TO SEE AGAIN THE MONITOR HOW TO SET AGAIN. THANK YOU FLAVIO
Debating between a7c II or a7 IV I don’t care about cII only having one sd card slot. Which do you think would be best in the long run to grow into it (amateur skill right now)
The grip must be better in a7iv. The evf is bigger as well but is central. With a flash on top like the sony 60rm2, the a7c look more compact and i like the side evf (the nose don’t touch the screen). A7c is lightweight and can be good in small gimbal. A7cII has better stabilization 7 stops (vs 5.5) despite smaller ibis. A7cII has better autofocus. Screen and evf are inferior on a7cII and a7cR. I understand that All these does not help to make a decision..
Excellent video - thank you! I'm trying to understand if you would be able to assign a button to change between metering modes with a single click? Lets say I'm in average metering mode and hit a custom button which changes the metering mode to spot metering. Or would i need to use recall menu to do so? Thank you!
Hey, just found your channel, Great Stuff! I also just got a A7Cmk2 and i've been having some issues with overheating. I record for about an hour before it overheats (4k, 30fps, 10bit 4.2.2) and I get through about 30 minutes of the USB C streaming mode before it overheats (4k 30fps) as well. Did you have any issues with this or am I just doing something wrong? Also worth mentioning i am NOT shooting with a dummy battery yet, but I heard that helps with overheating so I ordered one, and I already have my temp setting to high, and the times provided were with the auto off temp setting on high.
Apparently if you go back to 4:2:0 it overheats much less. I think i heard that in a video. The new bionz xr has been designed for the a1 and a7s3 which have bigger body and dissipation. Even before they release the two new versions i said that Sony should create a new processor to diminish the heat if they wanted to use it in smaller body like futur a7c evolution. Like always i was right. But if you use only 4k24 4:2:0 the camera should overheat no more
