I have a 9 month old GSD that’s been raised on Garret’s DIY Canine. He doesn’t care about fireworks- in fact he wants to see them. Went for a night walk while they were going off, fire trucks passing then we sat on the porch. He sat there with a big dog smile like a little kid looking up at the sky at them. I lit two sparklers, which he had never seen before, one for me and one for him. Listen to Garret. My dog does not stress unless I’m stressed.

It’s even funny when I go to parks and hear all these horrible stories of how bad other people’s pups are. My boy is 9 months now about 97lbs but he’s the best dog ever. I bring my Corso out he loves watching them I’ve got videos of him tail wagging and his head going up following the fireworks every single shot lol. He loves them.
That being said I live in Canada and we only have those Puszy fireworks.. push hard enough and a fart is louder than our fireworks. I might re think my opinion about bringing my dog out though if we had those ones that set off car alarms like you guys do. Lucky bas tards.

Tip 4: desensitization works, if done early. I played fireworks sounds on slowly increasing volume levels on my home theater system while playing with my puppy and giving lots of love and rewards to desensitize him from the sound of fireworks and it WORKS. The only thing he cares about when people are blowing stuff up is that there are people in the cul de sac so he barks at them. Big old booms going on and he didn’t care.
When I get a dog who reacts to fireworks I grab my dog’s favorite toy. I engage him in all the fun activities he likes to do while the fireworks are going (same as with thunderstorms). That way my dogs begin to associate that sound with fun time. So far it has worked every time.
I learned a few more tricks for my pups! I gave them doggy calming chews for the night. It seemed to help a little. Now I know to tire them out more and cotton balls or tv with a timer to turn off. Thank you!!! 🙏

But I can do this because mine was picked specifically for his ability to "recover" and bounce back from scary things, so I'm using him to teach the younger one to do the same.
Lavender oil works for my dog (only good quality). Dogs' ancestors are den dwellers. They also feel more comfortable in a dark, closed space. I cover her crate with blankets. Also, desensitization. The more exposure, the less scary it is.
The Cat Daddy gave pretty much the same suggestions for cat owners. I feel so badly for animals when fireworks go off, ruins it for me and so I’d rather have a quiet evening at home.

My husky is the same way. He even likes watching them. He gets more stressed out by the sound of children than fireworks. My other dogs are a completely different story tho
My mommy Corso (4.5 yrs) was trying to jump into the air to attack the aireal fireworks as we walked the block. A few CBD oil drops + good environmental condiontioning + leadership = neighbors saying "amazing" as they pet our Corsos.

Tip #1, build a soundproof area... Wrap the crate in soundproof eggcrate material, cover the crate with a thick blanket. Tip #2, blast the AC on High. Tip #3, plug your dog ear with sound cancellation headset or earplug. Best area is the closest.
I was prepared to take my dogs to my dad home out in the country so i didn't have to worry about them on the 4th. So im letting my dad know a few day ago and bring up my camera to show my dad how well behave they are. It was night and the camera load there was some illegal going off as im showing my dad. Huge in the sky and nonstop sounding like gunshots. And my 2 girls are just casually watching them unbothered.
My pit was on the loveseat legs up passed out and sleeping like a baby... My Chi was snuggled down in her bed. 5 cats were all chilling or asleep on the backs of the furniture. Dogs mostly take cues from their owners and when they start out being "rewarded" for their anxiety, it just progresses over time. When their owners are showing anxiety and attitude over the noise, your animals will too. Stop with all the pets, cuddles, and baby talk when they're faced with adverse situations. And STOP being fun-suckers. Let people enjoy their holiday AND their fireworks without being Karens. 😂

I found some chamomile chews for dogs. It really helped my dig who is sound sensitive. I also stood with her and kept her attention on me

My dog is prescribed Xanax for the storm and fireworks it helps he is on a small dose and 65 lb pit lab mix
